My ISP already does this and it is very frustrating. When I stopped sending them checks, they cut my download speed to 0 - Zero! They didn't allow any upload speeds at all. After an angry call with the help desk, I agreed to write them a check on a monthly basis. They now allow me to download and upload from any website. Anyway, I contacted my representative about this. To think that the ISP would stop letting me use their service, just because I stopped paying for it. The monopolies will rule the world!

I think you meant theoretically, not generally. I haven't seen the data over the last five years, but up until then, there has been no empirical data (in the US) to show higher minimum wages have resulted in higher unemployment rates. Theoretically, I don't disagree with you. Just the emprical data hasn't proven it, yet. If you have such data, please share.

The goal of government should be to do what's best for the country. Politics are the methods employed by those in (and out of) government to achieve laws which they believe are in the best interest of the governed. As the adage goes, "Laws are like sausages. It's better not to see them being made."

I agree with your sentiment, though, that the elbows in politics are too sharp for my taste. I do not believe that the nostalgia, for a time when this was not the case, to be well-founded.

It's just my hunch, but the free as in freedom or beer advocates are just worried about paying for something that they used to get with a five finger discount.
