For 10's of thousands of years it has been the women's job to bond and care for the children while the men did the job of providing food for the group. It is part of our makeup and it is how we survived. I am not saying that men have no bond with their children just that the paternal bond happens later in life. You will see it happen as your child ages, they start to pull away from mom and try and emulate dad.

And yes I have been in the delivery room during birth, I have also had to deal with some of the more horrible aspects of child birth. I am sorry but that does not make either of of us "Qualified" to comment. Unless you have actually studied medicine I would say you are not qualified to comment. But historically women were able, hell at times forced to be back on their feet. Otherwise we would not be here as a species. Just because you decided to impregnate a weak women does not mean your experiences are the norm. Honestly this whole idea that childbirth is hard is a very new idea, under 300 years old, compare that to how long the human race has been around.
I did not know there were mandatory sentences for this crime. Whether jail time is warranted is up to a jury but they should definitely be charged and tried.
