Haha. This reminds me of my friend in high school. He always told girls that he had a "vette." So when he goes to pick them up on a date, he would show up in his 1980 Chevette, to much jaw dropping from the other party.
That is true. All the $5.99 straight-to-tape Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal movies that you don't hear about (because they're not released domestically at the box office) actually make pretty good money in the international market. There is a whole industry of Hollywood people who make their money overseas (Cynthia Rockwell, for example, IIRC)
It has been shown publicly that Walmart's business plans include having the public subsidizing their meager wages. On their employee orientation package paperwork, it lists the contact address and number for welfare and social services. In essence, tax payer money is indirectly used to subsidize the operating costs of Walmart.
My dad is a bit of a tool. On his stereo he has the following components hooked up AND WORKING:
DVD
VHS
Beta
Record Player
CD Player
8 Track
It's all in 5.1 surround sound, so they all sound their best.
Wow! 8 track with 6 channels of sound. That's a neat trick!
This reminds me of my internship. I interned in the IT/AppDev department of one of the big timber companies. In the 6 months that I was there, there were 20 fatalities (falling trees, trucks rolling off cliffs, etc.).
Just shows that many jobs are dangerous, and you don't hear about it unless you're in the inside.
True. I got to attend a computer show in Dubai several years ago, and the first thing that struck me was that not only were there women working at the airport, but that they were wearing mini-skirts.
Dubai is in the United Arab Emirates, a state that is relatively much more liberal and open (alcohol is allowed there, IIRC)
It's $700. Case closed. Put down the joypad for 1/2 hr and walk around in circles if you must.
Seriously, I know this chick that disconnected the power steering cable from her car so she can work out her arms while she's driving. It works - her arm muscles are spectacular, but I guess safety issues be damned.
Not a problem. The copy of Return of the King that just got magnetically erased can be re-bought for 10 cents from a man with a sports bag when you leave the train station.
I ran into him one time at the Cascade Outlet Mall in Burlington, WA some years ago. He was trying to shove his new and shiny beer fridge into his Lexus.
A friend of mine says it has been standard practice for the last year or two to send financial details of their clients (they're a business loan office of a major bank) to the federal government (not IRS, but DHS), regardless of income or investment level. They're told that they cannot disclose to the client the specific pieces of information given to the government (not sure if this is corporate policy or a governmental mandate).
This act passage is just to retroactively legitimize such information transfers.
It's a good fusion of science and entertainment

We all know that the Japanese places heavy emphasis on education and scholarly conduct. Therefore, it surprises no one that even their entertainment (anime, pr0n) is infused with advanced studies of marine biology (tentacles)
a fiancee of my cousin (who is in the Air Force), says that US military top secret documents, which are destined for destruction, have to be escorted by 2 armed guards, and thrown into an oven which bakes the quadruple-shredded-and-reshredded dust of the formerly top-secret document at 1600 F for 1 hour.
Maybe in the upper reaches of society, people were polite, but for the vast majority of human history it has been Might makes right.
It appears that you need to study some history yourself. It is often the upper reaches of society which use "might makes right" to further enhance their position in the upper reaches of society. Surely, the lower reaches of society does too, but never to the extent that the upper classes do. Can the lower classes finance invading armies and pillagers?
A story (I think on NPR?) interviewed a Republican think-tank person who said that Republicans are contributing to the Dean campaign because it'll all somehow lead back to a Hillary nomination for either 04 or 08 and nothing unites fractioned conservatives like their united hatred for Hillary.
I personally don't have a landline anymore (mobile only), but I am considering switching to DSL. I currently have Comcast right now, and my 6 months of $19.95 are over (announced by the now regular rate of about $60/month). Is it possible to get DSL without landline service? If I need to get a phone line, then I won't be saving too much money either way.
The Kama Sutra Technical Manual. Chapter 1: Insert tab A into slot B.
You know you've been at work too long when the QT signals and slots model pops into one's mind when I read your comment. Sigh.
Version 3, I mean.
Oh now I remember. I was trying to acquire the win32 version. There isn't a free version 2 available for that.
However, isn't it true that only version 2 is free for open source usage? As I understand, version 3 has some pretty nice and important features.
:-)
I really do enjoy its simplicity. Although I've always thought that only men would come up with the "slots and signals" model.

Ah. Good old CSE 143. A very good class to learn about divide and conquer - The class size halves after every midterm (2 or 3 of them in the quarter?)

For those who don't know, this is a line from the movie "Office Space".
If you haven't seen it, you should. It's really a very funny look at office politics and lost jobs.
Unfortunately, for many people, it's not in the comedy section of the video store. It's in the documentary section.

I find it appalling that there is software that runs these e-voting devices. You're talking about, in the simplest form, maybe what, a 4 state device?
Actually, you would still be running on inefficient hardware. American presidential elections require only 1 bit (2 parties!)
