At least 5%-10% of Taiwanese now live and work in China. With close economic ties like this, your US/China war scenario is pretty darn near impossible.
They're not anything even remotely close to North and South Korea.
I was in traffic court a few years back in Washington state and literally more than a dozen people got ticketed for not clearing the intersection before the red light came on.
So according to the judge, there are 2 parts to this. You can enter the intersection during a yellow, as long as your entire vehicle can clear the intersection before the red comes on.
During the California Gold Rush (or Alaska, or Yukon, etc.), it was never the gold prospectors who made the big money. It was always the guys selling the shovels and supplies.
- One dealt with a state drought emergency by doing a rain dance and prayer.
- One was found hiding behind the bushes of a gay-rights rally.
- One actually implemented a universal health care system, before he flip flopped against it.
- One was the CEO of a company that made pizzas that suck even by chain standards (and that's the least of his faults, as it turned out earlier this week).
So yeah, unless Obama devours a live baby on live national TV, he'll most likely stay put until 2016.
Ryanair are well-known for making their customers jump through ludicrous hoops to get the misleadingly low advertised price (i.e. you won't)
It's not that bad. You only have to remember 3 things:
1.) Print out the boarding pass before you head to the airport. 2.) Don't buy anything onboard. 3.) Measure and weigh your luggage before you head to the airport. (the limits are draconian)
Never had to pay anything more than the advertised fare + tax + a couple bucks for currency conversion / fees (since I don't live in the UK).
Had a fine time on a short SwissAir flight. It was a short Zurich to Barcelona shuttle (1 hr?). There was supposed to be a sandwich snack service (yes, really!) even for a 1-hr flight. It was cancelled due to high turbulence. The shaking stopped as we were on the landing descent, then the FAs quickly whipped out the food carts and served the sandwiches during the descent, and picked up the garbage from everyone before the landing gear went down. Pure German efficiency.
Half of America doesn't pay FEDERAL income tax. Not all taxes.
Remember there's also payroll, social security, and Medicare taxes. Not to mention excises taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, etc. You'll pay more than half of these even if you're collecting unemployment.
Not paying any taxes - that's a pretty neat trick for anyone in any tax bracket. Can't believe people still trot out this meme and crying for all "freeloaders" to be beheaded in a public square.
My wife used to work in a Walgreens in a particularly bad part of town, so there will be the poor coming in willy nilly at all hours of the day asking for advice from any employee in the store who happens to be walking past - guy stocking milk cartons, pharmacy assistants, the retail store manager - What to put on this rash? What to do with this pulsing pain in my stomach? etc. She's seen plenty of times where an illegal migrant construction worker with a nail through their hand or eyeball would come in asking for medical advice.
I guess now they'll be formally charging money for this.
Really, the rich get government benefit from hiring lobbyists, not from taxes.
But the rich certainly benefits from overseas diplomatic missions / protection, military protection of high value private assets, foreign interventions, airport security, etc...i.e. things that represents a much higher benefit per tax dollar than your average Joe (and which the average Joe aren't likely to use).
It's one thing to say a national healthcare program will help the less fortunate. It's quite another to say we need it and people who deliberately abuse their bodies should be given a free ride.
It's called personal responsibility. If you can't be bothered to take care of yourself, why should I have to do it for you?
We will bankrupt ourselves in the vain search for absolute security. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Eisenhower asked Congress for $25 million to fund what he called health "reinsurance." Under the Eisenhower plan, private insurance companies who extended benefits to uninsured Americans would be reimbursed by the federal government should they incur excessive loses. The plan was rejected by both the House and Senate.
And he also proposed, in 1974, universal health care in America by providing government funding to private employer-provided insurance plans. Sound familiar?
Many countries have summer vacation. The difference is that many (particular Asian) countries have assigned review assignments during the summer, due to the first day of fall quarter.
Well, it doesn't exactly help doing these types of protests next to 5 million dollar mansions in Shaughnessy. If it wasn't the Consul General, the neighbors would have gone to court to kick them out eventually.

Space Needle has some of the worst food in Seattle. Much better options elsewhere.
Very true. The current crop of GOP contenders:
- One dealt with a state drought emergency by doing a rain dance and prayer.
- One was found hiding behind the bushes of a gay-rights rally.
- One actually implemented a universal health care system, before he flip flopped against it.

BTW, skip ryan air. THEY SUX.
Just treat them like a bus, don't buy any extras, and it's all good. Hard to beat flying from Spain to Morocco for only 7 EUR.
If you drive by trailer parks, every single of them have Urban Pacification Devices (tm) / satellite dishes.
True. Outside of North America and prosperous parts of East Asia, automatics are not very common.
stupid slashdot - "estacio"
As I recall they only made announcements in Catalan - hence "estaciÃ". Have they added castellano recently to cater to tourists?
I think "financial transaction tax" is meant for stock trades and such (think HFT), not ATM withdrawals.
They did this on an episode of Freakanomics. Seems like the financial incentive was found to be somewhat irrelevant overall.

There are people who read/watch things like Minority Report, Glengarry Glen Ross, Wall Street, and American Psycho and see them as manuals in life.

Because of the War on Drugs, it is possible to buy expensive electronics at 2am for $30 or less.
He also supported the Clean Air Act and OSHA.

It is cultural indeed. By the 3rd or 4th generation, the descendants of those hardworking Asian immigrants are just as "dumb" as everyone else.
I meant if it wasn't the Consul General going after them, the neighbors would have anyway.
