I am looking to buy a new laptop and it really seems difficult to find ones with decent resolution. ie greater than 1200 px in height. They all seem to be 800 high.
While not on a phone, regular skype on a laptop with a 3G dongle is fairly poor. On a good day it will work, but it is not consistent. 3g doesn't seem to be fast enough for it.
There is a good bit that could be done with software to help this, settings to revert to the edge network with gps off when asleep for more than a few minutes for example. Or even a button that allows to toggle low power mode.
Going through the settings turning this on and off is annoying.
You can even download directly on the kindle if you use the crappy web browser, for example manybooks.net has kindle versions for download. They appear in the home screen afterwards.
The article didn't seem to mention it, but from what I have seen elsewhere, not all information that twitter has is available with the free api. It could be stuff like who is actually reading the tweets (rather that just followers), where they are, where the people tweeting about you are, standard analytic stuff that business really like to know.
I can see this being quite popular and making plenty of money for them.
That is not how to win, there is a time in every game where you have to take a chance and bargain with other players for property to get some sort of monopoly going and also mortgage everything to build on it. If you survive a few rounds, and if it is early in the game you probably will, you are flying! If you conservatively play, you just slowly loose your money to the guy with all the buildings!
According to the Washington Post, they are selling a 65% stake and are retaining the other 35%. This values it at $2.75 Billion so not as big a loss as originally stated.
Look at the late 19th century, There was a fair volume, but nothing huge, less than 100 pieces of mail per person per year. And not all that was personal correspondence. Literacy was quite high > 80%
I still think there is more writing going on now than before.
I think you are missing the point, she was not just examining class work but "everything from in-class assignments, formal essays, and journal entries to emails, blog posts, and chat sessions."
It is that people actually are producing a significant body of work outside of formal education that did not happen before.
Of all the writing that the Stanford students did, a stunning 38 percent of it took place out of the classroomâ"life writing, as Lunsford calls it. Those Twitter updates and lists of 25 things about yourself add up.
It's almost hard to remember how big a paradigm shift this is. Before the Internet came along, most Americans never wrote anything, ever, that wasn't a school assignment. Unless they got a job that required producing text (like in law, advertising, or media), they'd leave school and virtually never construct a paragraph again.
It makes a lot of sense. This idea of their being a golden age of people hand writing letters to each other is bullshit for the vast majority of the populace.
She might not be popular with some people in actually praising a new generation. I remember watching a discussion on some TV show once where a professor stated that in his experience the current young people were much more diligent and hard working than previous generations. It didn't go down well at all with the rest of the tut-tuting panel.
I seem to have wandered into LouDobbsDot by accident.
These students I am sure are paying well to be attending those universities and part of that fee is towards support services for their interests.
It doesn't seem unreasonable to me for those services to highlight whatever advantages these students have, because they probably have a lot of disadvantages in language and local knowledge.
This would be really cool for controlling tint in glasses though. Those transition lenses that do this automatically don't really work well. I would love a pair of glasses that allowed me to manually adjust the tint.
It seems typing the line "Let me be the first to say:" cost you being the first to say. The guy above you didn't use any fancy extra line breaks and got there first!

99% of Twitter traffic boils down to "I had a bagel for lunch" and "I'm going poo-poo and Twittering it on my iPhone."
Well that is like complaining that phones or the web are overrated and pointless because most of the content is of no interest to you. You don't have to read those posts you know!
I don't post on twitter, but I do find it useful to get a real-time sense of what is going on. Searching it for phrases to see if something is down for example, or getting a sense of peoples reactions.
And following the odd celebrity like the mythbusters is interesting.
Well the issues are small, well more correctly very unlikely to affect you.
But the OP seems a bit paranoid, so probably big issues for him!
I don't know much about New Zealand, but a quick google gave me this which outlines all the various ways the NZ government can deport you if you are convicted of a crime.
This is a perfectly valid policy, I imagine governments would be delighted to get rid of all their criminals in this fashion.
But it does underline my point, you have less rights as an immigrant. If you and a natural kiwi both did something stupid, the consequences for you could be far greater.

It depends on your route also, if you are crossing the main routes rather than going on them it might even make your journey quicker.

Soccer is commonly used in countries with more than one code of football to distinguish it.
In Ireland we use soccer most of the time as football could mean soccer or gaelic football.
I agree that they break the internet, but the 150 or whatever character limit in Twitter makes it necessary.
