It is scheduled to be retired by HP/Compaq/Digital glom after the next two generations are out. The architecture has lots of headroom and Apple could own it outright. It has been 64 bit from the start and is very flexible. And the Apple^H^H^H^H^HAlpha architecture equivalent of AltiVec (MVI) is quite suave.

Too late - I'm pretty sure Intel picked up most of the intellectual property involved, as well as most of the Engineers to work on IA64.

Yes. Why? Because at some point your right to privacy is outweighed by my need for saftey. Specifically in this case, my need to be able to fly somewhere without the guy next to me blowing up the plane, or smashing it into a building.

I highly doubt there were 40 armed customs agents there because they felt they were going to need the firepower. I'm sure there were 40 customs agents there because gathering evidence is something that needs to be done thoroughly and methodically if you'd like to get a conviction in our legal system (Hey, remember OJ?). So they brought a lot of agents. Customs agents are generally armed - just like cops. Hence, 40 armed agents. I'd guess the majority were just carrying their sidearms that they wear to work every single day.
