and to accompany reports of controversial facts with attribution.

    No.

Sometimes the only way for a journalist to obtain the information they need from reliable sources is to promise to keep their sources anonymous. It's particularly funny that you are picking on the WSJ because they are the paper that brought down Nixon with information from anonymous sources.

This article from American Journalism Review will show you that the practice is perhaps controversial, but common.

Whoa, sonny, I didn't mean to challenge your manhood. I went from a long term relationship with a girl on the pill, to a girl that refused to take the pill and made me wear condoms. Go through that, and you will see the market for a male contraceptive. As the happily married guy above attests, condoms are messy, inconvenient, less pleasurable, and embarrassing to purchase. They'll keep you from getting the clap off a hooker, but using them regularly is a nightmare.

The article describes a potential contraceptive that provides all the benefit of a vasectomy without any of the downsides of a vasectomy (hey, I want to have kids some day). If you can't see why there is interest in this, you've never been saddled with condoms. I didn't mean to insult you, I meant to point out that you have no idea what you are talking about, and I think I was spot on. Take a deep breath before the mods dig you a deeper hole.

I took a gander at all the finalists of this contest and I felt like I could point out some problems with most of them. "Origin" had exceptional visuals but the voiceover suffered from poor pacing, another had a good script but Film School-esque visuals. I had a real soft spot for the French entry in a faux operating room - I watched it without subtitles, and I don't understand French. The image of a nurse-chasing Tux speaking an incomprehensible language had me cracking up, but I think it may have been too camp for the judges.

The winner by Armitay Tweeto is probably the most well rounded of the bunch, combining solid visuals with a solid voiceover and a really strong message: your freedom is waiting. Congratulations.

It's an anecdote about a mysterious bird skin that the author was able to track not just to the original breeder but also to the facility the bird was donated to, who turned out to have a tissue sample that the researcher will be able to add to her database.

I suspect the reason she wrote about it is because successfully tracking the provenance of a skin might be an uncommon thing and the researcher would've had to "eye-ball" the skin for classification. Instead, she came out of it with a full history of the bird and an actual tissue sample.
