    I care because when you have 200 shared hosting accounts on one server all it takes is one idiot to load things down.

    Most of the time we detect who it is and suspend their account, but I still wouldn't want them running java code inside mysql.

    Please, do not make this part of the main release. The last thing we need is lusers trying to run java from inside mysql.

    Bad enough that none of them know how to write queries properly so they bog down the servers.

    After WWII there was a law passed that the government cannot detain people indefinitely. This was specifically in reaction to how the Japanese citizens were treated during the war.

    Padilla is an American citizen and he has the same rights that you or I have. Why is the government so scared of bringing him to trial? Oh, that's right, they don't have any evidence.

    The President cannot just declare somebody an "enemy combatant" and keep them in prison forever.

    Yeah, you try explaining to 6000 customers why they have to change their email client configuration.

    We get calls constantly about people not able to send mail, usually it's because their ISP is blocking the connection.

    On that note, is there any big name manufacturer that still makes/supports good home machines? People always ask me recommendations but I'm out of them, other than "Just buy a Mac".

    You say that as if Macs aren't good machines. Apple makes excellent systems and OS X is excellent for regular users and even linux geeks like me.

    The bonus is you won't have to worry about viruses or spyware as much as you would on a regular PC.

    You got that right. We have started calling customers when their site is about to be suspended because of billing, and half of them have no idea what we're even talking about.

    Since it could be considered vandalism, yes they would be liable for damages. They'd also be liable for any cleanup costs from the city.

    Yes, there is. Everything the military buys has a committee somewhere that has to approve it first.

    DISC4 and other agencies determine the standards for hardware, software, etc.

    Spamcop is great if the ISP or web host actually responds to the complaints. I work for a web hosting company and we investigate every complaint that comes in. If it's legit the account gets terminated.

    I still think by the time spamcop gets to us it's too late though. You can't unsend spam, once it's out it's out. They'll just get a different account on another host. What we need is some kind of filtering on the incoming and outgoing sides. Or the world could just switch to something besides Outlook, which helps these viruses and worms propagate.

    That's one feature from VMS that I wish unix had. File versioning was built in to the file system, so if you wanted the old version of a file back you just had to roll back to the old one.

    Sounds just like our office.

    We have one Windows PC which doesn't get used that much. Everybody else is using Redhat or Gentoo on their workstations.

    We don't do much office stuff, but when we do we use Open Office, even on the windows box.

    I feel the same way. I fight with Linux systems all day at work, when I get home I don't want to mess around, just sit down and get things done.

    I'm actually thinking about buying a Mac as well.

    I can't even remember the last time I watched any of the regular networks. My tv is always tuned to the History Channel, Discovery, TLC, etc.

    So I don't give a crap if CBS stops broadcasting. Oh no, I might miss Survivor. :rolleyes:

    In an ideal world they wouldn't need to, I agree.

    But the reality is that spam exists, and users need to learn how to deal with it.

    White listing may be the only way to go. Have a list of people that are allowed to send you messages in your mail client, which would drop mail from them straight to your inbox. Anybody not on the list gets dropped to the Junk folder, which you could sort through and add the people you wanted.
