The problem is a lot of programs do not support sftp and accounts that have shell access turned off are SOL any way since ssh needs a shell to work. While there are solutions like jailing users and restricted ssh they're a pain to set up and you still need the application support any way.
Ubuntu could also just disable file system checks by default, under normal circumstances you should never need to run an fsck any way. Every time I've had to run fsck on a server it results in everything getting thrown into lost+found which is pretty much useless for recovery any way, sure the data is there but how the hell are you supposed to know where the files go? grep -r can only do so much.
Good luck, domain transfers are a royal PITA. We have over 6000 domains in our Enom account, I don't even want to think about transferring them all. Not to mention that all of our internal APIs are tied into Enom's system.
I don't really see what all the furor is about though, Enom only did what they were required to by law.
This is pretty much how our servers keep backups, just create a tar file of the domain's maildir every night and scp it to a remote server. Rdiff-backup is also nice, with that you can restore the mail account to almost any point in time since backups have started.
The Michigan economy is one reason, jobs are hard enough to find as it is, the last thing I want is to have the market flooded with more applicants to compete against. You can call it protectionism if you want but in this dog eat dog world I'm looking out for myself first.
There is no such thing as a BSD distro. FreeBSD is an entire operating system which includes the kernel and the core utilities needed to manage it. The nice thing about FreeBSD is consistency, it doesn't matter what server you login to things are going to be laid out the same and have the same options. Most systems will have extra packages installed but everything goes under/usr/local so you can just look around.
Yeah, management is a thankless job where you get yelled at for everybody else's screw ups. Who wants that? I'd rather be down in the trenches actually fixing stuff.
I think the military has the same problem, they want EVERYBODY to be a leader when some of us just don't want to be, or can be. I know that I would SUCK as a manager.
Why can't these churches just stand up and tell the NFL to go fuck themselves? The church is private property and if they're not charging admission I can't possibly see how it's not considered a "private performance" just like the NFL text says. What about people with big screen HDTV sets, are they going to start going after people hosting parties at home?
The biggest cause of failures that I've seen on the Xbox commmunity forums is from MS' flawed heat sink clamp design. Take off those damn x-clamps and 90% of the time the system will boot right up without a problem.
Here's a thread with more details, and instructions.
I've done it, didn't even need a soldering iron. All you need is some 10-32 x 3/8 and 10-32 x 1/2 machine screws along with some #10 nylon washers. You'll also want some Arctic Silver paste to replace the cheap crap that MS uses on the CPU and GPU.
Take the system apart and remove the xclamps that hold on the heat sinks, clean up the old thermal paste and apply new stuff. After that you insert the screws (they thread right into the heat sink dies) and tighten everything down.
On my system I also had to cut out the little square panel that's under the processors, for some reason it was causing the board to flex and not boot.
You may save a little money going this way but most of the broken systems I found on Ebay are still about $200, if you want to take a gamble and enjoy working on electronics it's a good option though.
Well structured code doesn't need comments, you should be able to just look at the source and understand it. THAT is what good programmers can do. It also helps if you make it readable instead of something that resembles line noise.
14 months to save $700 sounds about right, but by the time that's over I'd find something better to spend the money on. TV sucks and I barely watch it now, when analog broadcasts suck I'll just have to use it for DVDs and video games.
I like having a fighter, two black belts and a red mage. You can't use the higher level spells but your fighters will kill just about anything before they can do much damage any way.
Work in tech support for a while and you'll realize the average user doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. It doesn't matter what OS they have, users are rtards.
What I don't get about these laws is how they expect to enforce it. Are they gonna dig through everybody's trash?
A soldering iron and some wick will fix that really quick, and it looks better than tape.

There's nothing wrong with the OS, why is it our fault that people are too stupid/lazy to read instructions?

Exchange server already does this, mail is pretty much stored in a database format.

Am I the only one that wishes that it WOULDN'T bounce back? Less CS graduates means less competition for the rest of us.
Actually MS would prefer you to use ASP.net

Who said I paid $400 for it? A used system on Ebay does not cost that much, I bought a broken system ON PURPOSE so that I could fix it.

Why not just use sqlite? For access type of databases it's a perfect fit.
That's why you don't run Gentoo in production, stick with CentOS or Debian stable.

Yeah, cause we all have $400 just sitting around to spend on light bulbs.

Windows has a findstr command that works just like grep. I don't know why more people don't know about this.
