    Of course not. Doing useful things like adding Unicode support is apparently less important than adding more Web 2.0 junk to the site.

    Eventually they will discover that Unicode is part of "Web 2.0". It's even supported in URLs now!

    Unfortunately there's no provision in "Web 2.0" for "Competent editors for a news aggregator forum", so we'll still have to wait on that one.

    Perhaps Slashdot, slowly accepting their continuing decline in the web forum discussion arena, is trying to reinvigorate what they perceive to be their original driving force (shitting on Microsoft) instead of trying to fix the actual problems (that the site is stale, the "editing" still is non-existent after all these years, and that other outlets on the web provide more open ideas than the stagnant masturbatory groupthink).

    Keep in mind that Drew is running Fark as a business, and certain comments that might rail against his corporate superiors will get modded or banned. Drew and his modmins are know to ban people based on petty rivalries and personality conflicts. Fark is no bastion of "free speech", and what would he know about "wisdom" from a site that is dedicated to goofball headlines and accelerated political trolling.

    They are often easily swayed by a nifty presentation from a guy who doesn't know too much either but promises everything, and of course the ability to cut cost in half, if not more, so they buy.

    If you've worked in a huge shop, you know that the big software vendors send reps out to IT managers for golf outings and the like. Screw it if the software works or not, just fluff up the guy with the budget rubber stamp.
