  1. A good thing!!! on Google Campus to Become Solar-powered · · Score: 1

Well I think it is a step in the right direction. We have to realize that the price of electricity will be rising and rising due to the effects of peak oil. Oil is running out in +/- 43 years so the price of oil will start rising and so will the price of electricity.

I think it is time to start looking at alternatives and Google starting this initiative to power their workplaces with solar power is a good thing in my opinion. I could only whish that more companies started to experiment with those kinds of things.

It would be ideal if in lets say 10 years all new offices should be equipped with there own alternative energy supply, think solar power, wind power,... It is not a thing of extremist save the world kind op people, it is a thing for modern corporations to protect their way of doing business for the future.

I do not think the judge will be able to stop the release of the game; he will not have the power to do anything about the content of the game. What are the intentions?

Do we not have the freedom to express in an artistic way by for example creating a video game? If people thing that their kids should not play this game because it is bad influence for them they should simply not allow them to play the game. It is the same thing as, if you think your child should be allowed to watch a adult movie you should simply not allow him to.

People do have their own responsibility and the responsibility towards their kids to give them the education they think is good for them. If this includes not playing a certain game they should simply not allow the kid to do so.

  14. recognizing the real problem on Comprehensive Projection of World Oil Exports · · Score: 1

If you read the research papers and if you do the math and put in some plain and simple thinking you will know this. If we do not get aware very very quickly we will have a huge problem in 50 years.

Oil reserves are running out and we are missing a energy source to bridge the gab between a oil driven world and a world working on a new energy source. Yes we could use nuclear power but this will not make your car run, and yes we could use hydrogen fuel cell cars but to be honest in the upcoming 50 years not everyone will be driving a hydrogen fuel cell powered car in the upcoming 50 years.

What will the cost be of the food you buy in the supermarket if the trucks transporting it will have to buy fuel for a $100 a liter? Could you still afford it? Will you still own a car? Could you still pay the energy costs to run your computer?

Think about flying? Will there be cheap flights? No way, because there is no alternative than the current way of flying airplanes will still need aviation fuels. That is to say, it will not be there in the upcoming 50 years. So you will not be able to pay a ticket anymore. Modern ships are running on diesel engines so transport over sea will become to expensive.

And now take a look around you, how many things you own are made of plastic, those will be hard to produce without using oil.

So if we do not take action right now there will be a great problem ahead. Do not even think about global warming or the ozone layer or things like that... most of us, if you are young, or most of our kids will not even be there to see this. And the co2 emission will not be enough to really start global warming. The problem to focus on is what to do for when there is no oil anymore. And for some reason nobody is recognizing this problem... why? I do not have a clue..

Like bulls*t comments from coders, passwords, private internal addresses etc etc..

Those kinds of things should be sifted out of the code before making it available to the public. Looking at these results it looks like a lot of companies do not have a good policy for these kinds of things.

I think a lot of people have an open WiFi connection for the rest of the world to use. This however is not only because they want to give some protest but also to simply add a other node to the ever growing number of open "uplinks".

As more and more people are doing so at the moment it becomes easy for traveling laptop users to get online everywhere they want. Closing you "uplink" will become more and more rude in the global opinion I think. Sharing the connection will become more natural to people as they become more aware of the benefit they have from the open uplinks offered by other users.

WiFi will become eventually something like opensource code, sharing and be shared only here we are not talking about code but about internet access. You give access to users and those users give you access in return.

So looking from a Microsoft perspective open office is not as good as MS office because we do not have a e-mail client embedded, meaning that the entire open office is crap because of this?

I still have the opinion you should not embed a e-mail application in open office as this is a mail application and has nothing to do with the things you do in a office application. The beauty of opensource projects is that the final application is build upon users input, not only code but also expectation. If, please read IF, there was a need for a e-mail application within open office the community would have made sure this was a building option.

In my opinion is the fact nobody has implemented this evidence that there is no need for this in the open office user community. The moment it will be embedded it will be done because of users requesting this and start building this. Maybe Microsoft should pay some more attention on opensource to look what people are building if they have the freedom to do this themselves... and maybe Microsoft should find out that some of there products do not "completely" satisfy the needs of there users...

In general I do agree with this, opensource is in most cases not about the good look and feel as commercial products do. However spending the bucket loads of money on this as commercial products do is not a good option. I know there are open projects out there helping developers to get nice looking GUI's. I think that in general one of the aims of the opensource community should be to attacked more and more GUI designers to provide work in a GPL or Creative Commons license.

He used his own account and NOT a account that was on the computer. So there was NO direct link to the stolen computer by a username or something. Looking from a pure ISP point of view he was just user login in.

There was NO information transmitted talking about that the computer was not his computer except for the MAC adres. This means that a ISP in america must log MAC adresses in combination with dialin information and run those MAC adresses against a MAC-database hosted by the FBI or something like that.

That is the scary part of this story. Think about it,they have a list to lookup what user is when online, dialing from where and using whose computer.
