I stopped reading at the point where you said that the Goth/Industrial movement has made its way into Shopping Malls via Twilight. The Goth/EBM scene has barely poked through the surface (the true forms of it). As for Industrial... Nobody listens to industrial.
Real Industrial
There are obviously underlying problems to your ex's problem with games. I would like to think I'm semi-well adjusted. I'm only back home living with my parents after my my fiancee and I split up, and I couldn't afford rent on the apartment... and no, we didn't split up over gaming. Apparently I can work, go to school, and still want to try to make it in the local Club/EDM scene as a DJ/producer. It wasn't 'mature' enough.
That being said, I used to play CAL-IM for CS 1.6 (wasn't good enough to play CPL), and I have been playing in tourneys on and off for L4D2, MW2, and MW3. I used to have 4 level 65s on FFXI, currently have a level 60 on Tera, and I'm still finishing up school and working full time. Even with all this going on, I still have been in a relationship for the past 6 months, and its a pretty healthy one at that.
When I tried to play world of warcraft with her (I had a real life)the first thing I noticed is that many of the players were 22, 28, 30, and even 45 living at home with their parents. When they get money they would not invest it in a new suit for a job interview. They would be a wall mount plasma for their wow habbits until their elderly parents threatened to kick their ass to the curb if they did not unplug the ethernet and go get a fucking job!
And about this, my guild leader actually works in the research department of some University (forgot which one), and I have 2 software programmers and an electrical engineer in my guild as well. I hear them regularly log off of vent to make sure they're spending time with the family, only to log back in at night to grab a few instances before having to go to sleep for work. Just because YOU have had a problem with games (indirectly) and relationships doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of well adjusted people out there.
Okay, so lets just put an end to this whole 'they're competitive' bullshit. Lets throw the MBP against... lets say a Razer Blade. We all know that Razer is notoriously expensive for the shit they make (kinda like Apple).
Whats that? The MBP configuration that is around the same build specs as the Blade is $650 more. That's even with the (gimmicky) switchblade panel on the laptop. How does it feel to be in the cult of Steve Jobs?
Oh, and I don't know if Im lucky, but the gym regulars at the 24 Hour Fitness I go to have been a wonderful help on getting my form right for lifting as well as just being random spotters for me. I guess if you don't act super awkward, people are down to give you a hand/extra motivation.
Or, you know, you could just do the super simple thing I'm doing. Eat foods in this order: Veggies - Fruit - Nuts/Protein Supplements (Hemp has been working best for me, whey has too much shit in it) - lean meat (extra trimmed red, but mostly sticking to chicken/fish). I'm eating about 1800 cal/day (about 400-500 under for my body weight), and I still have high energy levels, and I am rarely hungry throughout the day. I do admit, after some of my workouts, I get a sub-20g protein muscle milk to make me feel full and restore lost energy.
As for what I'm doing for exercise, its a simple 5x5 - A days are Squat, Bench, and Barbell Row. B days are Military Bench, Squad, and Dead Lift. Program goes ABA Week 1, BAB week 2, working on days at least one apart (Mon/Wed/Fri for me). Doing light cardio on workout days (10 min warmup, 5 min cool down), and heavy cardio on off days (60min+). 2 weeks in so far, and my pants are starting to be too loose on me, even though I am roughly the same weight (Only lost 3 lbs). The first week was the hardest, but now I actually enjoy going to the gym. Sadly, I'm losing time to play Tera Online. Oh well, have to make those changes.
Worth noting that I went from eating pretty much only fastfood to this diet in under 1 week (before starting the workout program). Energy levels are higher, I'm not as consistently hungry, and I just feel better overall.
14 is the lowest legal age you can be hired in CA, and there is no other paperwork required from the school besides a permit to work from the school. Only difference is that 14-15 year olds can only work 4 hours a day after school, grand total of 20 hours per week. 16-18 year olds can work up to 32 hours, no restriction on hours per day, but you cant stay past 10PM on school nights (or something like that)
There is a reason why 'hacker' is in quotes. In case you have never played a PC game online, I'll give you the rundown of what it means in the gaming world - Anyone who cheats at the game by using aimbots/wallhacks/ESP/ etc. Players of low skill level tend to brand those of high skill level as hackers, since they don't believe anyone could be better at the game than they are.
Its along the same lines that a Producer in the music world is someone who oversees the work being done, but in the electronic music scene, it means someone who is making music. Its both the game 'hacker' and EDM 'producers' are misnomers when it comes down to what they really mean, but they are use this way in their own scenes. Thank you though for 'correcting' my mistake. It was much appreciated.
Go check usernames. I was not the parent, I merely looking at the quote he used, specifically the 'Vader told Ars' part, and took a wild stab in the dark that it was ArsTechnica... you know, since they refer to themselves as Ars in their articles.
I never played L4D1. I know about the scoring system, and I used to run a server with the old style score system. I think it makes the game a bit more interesting.
If you're really worried about that stuff, MaximumPC has some good guides to figure everything out. But honestly, the only semi-confusing numbering scheme out there in the GPU market is AMD. Everything else is pretty straight forward.
Most of the time I'm rolling with a group of 2-3 people, we usually dont boot the pubs unless they specifically do really stupid shit over and over again that we've advised against doing... or if they are just being annoying. I just never got why people take pub matches so seriously. If it was a scrim/tourney, yeah, I get uptight about it... but definitely not in pubs.
Then again, I like playing with a handicap, it balances out the game for me. Had a friend last night tell me Im no fun to play against because I skeeted 7 hunters and jockeys in a row with an HR. One might say I'm a... Pubstar/points to user name.
You know that the past 3 motherboards I have purchased (790FX and 990FX AMD chipsets) had a USB header that allowed for phantom charging on the front of my case. So yes, I would be surprised if my iPod didn't charge when I plugged it in... probably means its time for a new mobo.
With PC gaming it's far more of a crapshoot, yes the graphics etc can be better than consoles but if your hardware specs aren't high enough the experience can be a lot worse. Furthermore neither CPU or GPU vendors label their products in a way that makes it easy for the customer to determine whether his CPU/GPU is better or worse than the one a reviewer used.
If you seriously have a problem figuring this one out, you need to not be using PCs anymore. Go get yourself a Mac.
As one of the better known 'hackers' of MW2, MW3, BF3, L4D2, etc. etc., I never found a reason to be a total prick to newbie players. Sure, it means I have to play harder to win, but there is something to be said about growing the community. The more good players there are out there, the better of a chance I get to hone my skills.
On the other hand, I can't stand DOTA/DOTA2/LoL due to people smurfing and basically raping people who haven't the slightest clue to play the game. It keeps the community to a select assholes who have nothing better to do than troll newbies and talk shit. To use the car analogy (barely) - its like some professional driver challenging a newbie to a race on open track days, then talking shit to them for not being able to keep up.
Yet with DVRs, I see the same amount of ads on cable TV from the same companies that always advertise on there.

Unless they're from Japan. Then they would get it.
If only I had mod points... and I didnt post in this topic already.

I immediately thought of this

Took me a total of 5 seconds to google Anonpaste + ArsTechnica. http://arstechnica.com/open-source/news/2012/04/anonymous-builds-its-own-pastebin-like-site.ars Seriously, would it have been that hard to search for?

Damn you for beating me to it. I really dont like IPAs anyways. More of a Belgian white ale myself.
T-Mobile already does this. I get a nice warning message - "Using WiFi calling still counts against your monthly minutes."
If by 'The Population' you mean 'large corporations' then yes, you are correct.
Wasn't this the exact comment that was posted in the MacOS article?
Oh the problems of being a console gamer. My PC has yet to fail on me... by the time something does, its time to upgrade anyways.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the whole 'arbitration' clause that every company makes you sign.
