Back when there were tons of problems with Borderlands multiplayer after launch (due to shitty GameSpy), my friends I shifted to GameRanger. Sadly it doesn't seem like too many games that are on that list are listed on the GameRanger supported game list, but it still is worth checking out.
Seriously... My overall system cost $1300 and can play anything you throw at it. And $1300 makes it fall in the higher end of midranged boxes. I am planning on going crossfire when I upgrade to a higher resolution monitor (2560x1440 monitor). The only other thing I have to get around to doing is disabling an extra core on each module so I can really crank up my overclock to get better framerates on games that are more CPU bound.
This could actually be more of a wonder for Gluten Free bread. The organic bread we sell at my grocery store (fresh & easy - a company owned by Tesco) has the same shelf life as our regular bread, but none of our branded products use artificial preservatives. The GF bread we sell comes in vacuum sealed, yet still molds in about 2 weeks.
Well lets see, there is:
Taito Type X2 Arcade board - Windows XP SP2 Embedded
System N2 Arcade Board - Dibain Linux
Beatmania IIDX (12th style and above) - Windows XP SP2
Sega Lindbergh - Linux
Lindbergh Blue - Windows XP embedded
A lot of arcade machines run some sort of embedded OS with OTS parts. I don't see why they are such an issue.
Just to put things in perspective, I just had to download my steam games after a format last week. Total transfer was well over 500gb. That's not including HD youtube and netflix on 2 TVs or online gaming and some linux downloads. I probably have well over 1TB of legit download this month.
Most of the games I play on PC have a DX11 on/off mode in the menus. If several Free 2 Play games have this option (on UT3 engine), I can't see why a game can't be developed with a DX11.1 mode check box.
Why is everyone over complicating this?
Pinch To Zoom: Just use mouse wheel
Pinch to Rotate: Hold mouse wheel down, have you move in a circular pattern in the way you want to rotate
Accelerometer: Push a button to toggle mouse usage where current setting is center, moving it determines how far the device is tilted. Have another key to recenter and have an adjustable dead zone.
Or is there something Im missing here that makes it harder than this?
I'm actually taking a CompTIA class at my local community college right now. Prep book is only $25, and the instructor is really knowledgeable, but also is kinda teaching to the test.
That said, my tests at the end of the year are going to run me $80. If the school is registered as a CompTIA Academy, then you get half off all tests, regardless if you took the class for it or not.
Getting my Network+, Security+, and Linux+ by the end of the year, and taking a CCNA course next semester. End goal is programming, but I just need to get the hell out of retail and into the IT field.
The whole point was that BLR and Tribes are both doing really well, with tons of people paying into the F2P model. I understand how the consumer thing works better than you, apparently. Just because one person doesn't like it doesn't mean the whole system is broken.
I will admit that its a bad design, but my system has a huge performance boost over my 965 at the same clock speeds running on four cores. I picked up this 8150FX for $190 on sale with a $30 gift card to Frys with mail in rebate (which I did get). That puts me paying about $160 for the chip... which was marginally more than the 1100T (which was out of stock, and currently delisted almost everywhere). And even though it does burn up more power than the 965, I've gotten a much higher OCs out of this chip at lower temps (and more stable) than the 965. Seriously, my options being stuck on AMD right now were ditch my $300 motherboard (Asus ROG Crosshair V Formula with Thunderbolt), or get stuck with BD after my 965 ate shit... or I guess buy another 965, since they seem easy to get right now.
I would rather kill myself than use Win8. I already know about the scheduler fix, but the minute performance boost that it grants is not worth me having to put up with Metro.
Im seriously thinking about ditching AMD after this last CPU release. I would have rather had 4 or 6 dedicated cores instead of this 4+4 config with sharing L2/L3 cache. I seriously haven't owned a Intel rig since my old Pentium 75mhz system, but its looking like its time to go back.
This is why I have the 4 "second" cores shut off, and running them at their base turbo boost fequency. The thermals of my system are about on par with my old 965 (non OC'd), and the 8150FX provides a massive difference in gaming response (vs. the 4.2ghz OC on the 965). I thought that everyone knew that it was the sensible thing to do unless you are running something that taxes more than 4 cores at once.
So you're just saying that the whole F2P model just doesn't cater to what YOU want, therefore the whole system is flawed? I pretty much play exclusively online. Yeah, I have some single player games I dive into every now and then, but most of my time is spent online fragging with friends. I think that the reason you don't like F2P games is because majority of them are online only and highly competitive, which is what YOU don't want in games.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this pretty much seems to be the whole basis behind you bashing the F2P model.
I actually graduated 2004, and was playing it during HS. And seriously, check out Tribes: Ascend or Blacklight: Retribution. I was huge into Tribes 1 and 2 back when I was still gaming on hte old 28.8Kbps modem, and T:A Plays pretty closed to tribes 2. Both games don't require you to pay any money to get what you want, though it can be a completely grindfest if you are unskilled and cant rack up cash quick.
Oh, and then there is Mechwarrior Online. Ive probably dropped about $40-60 on each of these games, and I have no plans on spending any more, but I did think that the developers of the games did a great job, and that they deserved money for what they made.
So... LoL, DotA, and TF2 are horrible games? But lets dive into the more obscure games, shall we?
I can't tell you how many hours I dropped into Maple Story or Gunbound. I made a few in game purchases with Gunbound as well way back in the day (HS time). But lets get to something more current - Blacklight: Retribution. This game has way better mechanics play mechanics than most arcade FPS shooters on the market, has some great ideas (Hyper Reality Visor is a complete game changer), AND has a pay system that does not make the game pay to win? Lets not even get into seamless level loading (games load in the background during intermission between matches) OR that its very easy to call a votekick on anyone (makes VKing hackers that much easier), and the sick DX11 graphics. Oh, and currently there is a promo going on for $1000/day giveaway just for playing matches.
F2P can be done right, its just that only a few good games come from this model. I guess you could say thats the same behind most AAA titles that come out too.
My customer service experience has been hit and miss with Valve. Sometimes I get a response within a few hours, other times its 3-4 days (non-sale times). When I do get ahold of them, things usually get worked out very quickly and pretty painless.
EA does have live chat, but the guys there have no clue what they're doing. When they tell me to go into MSConfig and turn off EVERYTHING that starts up when the system starts up as the first troubleshooting problem for a game, there is an issue.
I think that CS:GO actually plays closer to 1.6 than CSS, which is refreshing. Only thing is the tasers and decoy grenades are stupid as hell... and if you've been paying attention, there is a new engine coming out for HL3 (or atleast that is what's assumed).
And I think I can live in a world where I don't technically own a game when I paid $20 for all GTA games (1-4, San Andres, Vice City, and Episodes from Liberty City), or pay 75% off on some AAA title a month or two after it comes out in a steam sale.
...Buy EA, and make System Shock 3. Then roll in the money.
Hell, I'm sure plenty would even kill for a SS2 HD remake. I just keep reading that the series is in limbo because EA technically owns the trademark rights to the System Shock name.
Most of the local chains out here (southern California) will match all internet prices... well besides Overstock and Buy.com apparently. I actually did get Frys to match Overstock for a gaming headset ($40 off) by basically leaving the $800 of PC parts and misc. gear there. Said if Im waiting for stuff, I might as well just go to Newegg, since shipping to my house is next day. Had them stop me and told me they'd cut the price off. Point is, they can do something about the price, sometimes you have to play hardball with them.
Maybe I think it's moral to drive drunk so long as I'm super-duper careful. How dare you take away my right to drive?
At this point, I stopped reading. Actually, I should have stopped reading at the above example. I think you misunderstand what morality is and how you can impose it onto other parties. Your morals are a fine thing to live by and maybe even to break a law or two that goes against what you believe to be morally right, when it infringes on other peoples liberties then you are going to be in the wrong regardless of your morals. Pick better examples next time, yeah?

I'm on my cell and too lazy to find the Torrent Freak article, but something like 50% of all files on their servers never had a single download.
Escape goat? I like that, I'll have to start using that. It's a scapegoat, by the way.

I stopped reading at "I happen to have an HP"
If you've been paying attention, this last round of GPUs are more power efficient than the last generation (nVidia 600/ATi 7000HD series cards).

So how much does MS pay you to post here? You can't be someone who reads slashdot yet posts objectively about microsoft! That's blasphemy!

Forgot to add, the Base TB clock for my CPU is 4.2Ghz. Running at sub 40C currently under a moderate load.

That sums up about half of my 200 games on steam.
