  1. Finally... on Intel To Drop RAMBUS In Favor of DDR RAM · · Score: 1

this is what i've been waiting to hear, I design system computer packages for a local computer store and it was becomming a pain in the ass to try and tell what motherboard (socket 423 or 478) using either SDRAM or DDR RAM or RDRAM. Some of the sales people didn't know how to tell the difference eitehr, so they would sell a system with a socket 478 motherboard using SDRAM with a socket 423 processor and RDRAM.

At least this will finally make my job a little easier and I won't have to double check all the new computer sales as much anymore.

I saw an article once (not sure if it was here or not) about someone using random pictures from a lava lamp to encrypt whatever he wanted. Last i heard was everyone that tried to break the encryption failed... the only way to decode it was to use the orignal picture that was taken of the lave lamp. If anyone else has heard about this or has any other information if this worked or not I would love to hear about it.

But on the other hand: have you looked at the sizes of DVDs lately: they are big like nearly 9GB. Viewed at 27GB from this side it's actually small. It's the bare minimum ;-)"

not trying to be a flamer here or anything but don't dvd's currenty support 18GB per disk. As far as I know, DVD's were 2 layers per side; so it was 9GB's per side. That's why there is a split second delay in some movies when it changes over layers - some people think that it caused by cheap DVD players when actually (in some cases it is caused by cheap players) it is just the dvd disc itself. dont get me wrong or anything, i'm all for a new 27gb standard.

I for one dont think we should be basing the creation of life everywhere in the galaxy with realtion to the way life was created here on earth. It would be pretty arrogant to think that way. But hey, i don't expect the next planet they find life on to be anything like Earth, but until that discovery is made, Earth is the only thing we can use as a guide line for the fundamental rules for the creation of life on other worlds.

I would hate to be a scientest when they realize that all the science we discover on Earth could be tossed out the window when they find another habited planet. But thats just my opinion.
