The difference in quality between an MP3/WMA/OGG/whatever and an uncompressed format like CD-Audio is noticable instantly to people with sensitive ears.
Without a huge increase in bandwidth in the near future, people are still going to want some kind of physical medium to listen to uncompressed, deliciously tasty audio rather than compressed, semi-delicious audio.
Club makes USB-fobs that contain the customer's name, credit info (or a key that they look up the credit info in their database with) and email address. The customer goes to a show and likes it, so they walk over to the kiosk and plug in their fob to order the "album" on the way out. The kiosk notes the purchase in the database and sends email to the customer with a link to download the music from the Web site.
Um... why couldn't you just swipe a credit card and give them your e-mail address? What is the point of the USB-fob? Seems unnecessary.
Quick, easy, and here's the best part: you don't care about file-swappers because you get the customer at the exact point where they decide they like the music. You don't care if the 5 billion people who never come to your club swap this music around.
But then, why would you pay for the music in the first place? Why wouldn't just one person go in there and buy it, and swap it around with everyone else?
But to keep it on topic, I think a lot of us such as myself are buying from labels like Nuclear Blast and Century Media that are not affiliated with the RIAA.
I think a lot of Slashdotters do that in addition to pirating RIAA material.
I guess I should point out, since no one has yet for this article, that while we're waiting for MSH to come along, Cygwin has a bash shell (and a bunch of other shells too) and lets you navigate the filesystem like you would in Linux/UNIX... it's tasty.
The real question remains: Will Google be as good once they are a public company?
There's good and bad with the going public thing... if controlling interest remains with the current head(s) of Google, they may operate the same way they do now. World Wrestling Entertainment, for example, went public, but the McMahon family has the controlling interest... so when other stockholders bitch at them they basically say "Oh, really? Too bad."
One problem with that approach is that your stock price will go down with that attitude...
Public defenders aren't obligated to provide attorneys for civil cases.
I'm sure though, that there is some lawyer out there that would be willing to work for free on a high profile case like this, especially if they think it's for a good cause.
Unless of course, the lawyers think they can't win... because after all copyright violation is against the law.
What makes you think that Mac users think this is ok?
The fact that no one (as of 2:15 pm eastern time) has really bitched, especially the way almost everyone here bitches about Microsoft when they do something "bad".
I think the only thing more annoying than a talking shopping cart could be the cash registers that play wav files of cash register noises while they're being used -- they REALLY HAVE THESE at WaWa convenience stores.
Definitely not; in fact, I think words like "idiot" and "jerk" can't be used for libel or slander suits, since they're opinions, not really facts. Crimes like stalking and child molesting can be verified traditionally with evidence.
So then why do Audiophiles REFUSE to take part in a double-blind test of music of multiple genra's?
I have difficulty believing this to be true, since most blanket statements are untrue.
I don't consider myself an audiophile, but I work with music every day, so go ahead and double-blind me. I can definitely hear the difference.
Yes and no.

This does point out the bigger question of why the technical community is not taken seriously on political issues.
The same reason actors aren't taken seriously -- because they're not politicians.
...but here's a link to a relevant article.
I hope someone counter-sues them into the dust!
Gaming as the cause of falling ratings? I don't think so. The TV watching demographic is not 100% the gaming demographic.
Couldn't it just be that there's nothing good to watch?
As a couple of counter-examples: MSDN and Knowledge Base.
However, since it's "M$", you refuse to even look and discover that, hey, their documentation is actually pretty damn good.
So on the 10th anniversary of the LDP (and congratulations, that's quite a feat) I say "up-yours" to blindly irrational sheep-morons.

Corrupt the registry on a read operation? Mod parent up, +1 Funny!

That's grammar to those of us with educations.
You can't counter my argument, so you resort to name-calling... how mature!

I hereby claim the "it's just semantics" post.
...we have assumed control.
It's sic. If you're gonna troll, do it right sweetie-pie.
I made a note of the time I posted so I wouldn't have to deal with this...

You can only win a case if the person you're going after is actually telling lies, though.
Truth is the shit!
Seriously, what is the point of engineering something like this?
If it was another country's research team we'd probably be invading by now...
... a way for the Red Sox to get to the World Series.
Funny, except that this program is actually useful. It's targeted at web designers, most of whom are not geeks.
