"Why yes Tina, that was a commercial for Ferrari, followed by a Tiffanys spot. What was that.., oh, your panties just semeed to have fallen to your shoes."
Sure, but i wuoudlnt be suprised if they announce they have found a way to counter the sound waves, redirect them up, or something i've never heard of before.
maybe propellers will always cause waves, but that doesnt mean we cant quiet them somehow with the right technology. I guess we'll know what 2 years and some funding can get us though eh? meet back here in 2 years:)
Theres a whoooole lot of people that said never. As in; we were never supposed to fly, never supposed to break the sound barrier, never supposed to get to space, etc.
Noone said it would be easy, or that they have an idea how to do it. but thats why we do these studies.
Luckily people that don't like to say "never" work at NASA.
I'm not suprised its "growing" faster...because at the home gaming has been around for years and is highly saturated, popular, and is now just pushing out slowly after its major strides.
Smartphone gaming is new, and has everywhere to go now, being pretty darn new.
If phone gaming can approach at home gaming, then that will be news.
wow, i just went through that airport listening to an airport, and didnt notice CNN. I think i made a call when i landed, and before I left too. Used a laptop too.
I must be like a ninja or something. true ultimate power!
Outside of techies and geeks, people just want to know if it runs whatever program they are used too. They dont care about #'s really. Maybe the benchmarks for video cards matter to some people for video games that wouldnt typically know what a benchmark is, but most people dont even know what linux is really (less ubuntu).
Really, this news is that windows scored a 2838, ubuntu a 3367. Vista boot time: 56 seconds. Ubuntu boot time: 50 seconds.
While I give a big high five to the developers, I dont think this is a watershed moment.
it would be valuable to now claim "faster than windows" in marketting along with other features. Just that simple phrase will have more penetration.
you know, when we study these things that are hard, we gain a greater understanding of other things as well. space exploration has always trickled down information to humanity.
Wow, all that info, and not one suggestion for how someone trying to describe a continent's IP trends (which i agree, was pretty much a direct racists attack) should address that continent.
he had sent the 16 page report as an anonymous coward.
The 2 page addendum should have read "if you'd like to talk about this, please sign this contract and return it to this po box, and I will store it in a safe place while I help you guys implement your patches/fixes/etc.
Don;t take this the wrong way, this is a legit question asking for an update.
Can these 2 users that know so little about laptops and OS's to get vista on a 512 box really manage a linux setup or is linux hiding the backend enough that they cant screw it up? Or are you sort of default tech support now for them.
(I know I am default tech for... my whole family. Ugh.)
At first glance I thought these pics would be better if they were further back to get an idea of scale.
Then noticed that the pictures are marked anywhere from 33 to 98 feet PER PIXEL. these pictures actually have quite alot of land below, and I think it's just the nature of the resolution and shot that make it look like its a much smaller scale.
I'm glad there are scientists that study this that can make out alot more than I... but very happy this worked none-the-ess.
You know, as a voice actor/actress, a little mp3 music in the background might not be a bad thing, maybe set the mood. Perhaps you dont need all the fangled gadgetry.
(a) Offenses.-- (1) In general.-- Whoever, during and in relation to any felony violation enumerated in subsection (c), knowingly transfers, possesses, or uses, without lawful authority, a means of identification of another person shall, in addition to the punishment provided for such felony, be sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 2 years. (2) Terrorism offense.-- Whoever, during and in relation to any felony violation enumerated in section 2332b (g)(5)(B), knowingly transfers, possesses, or uses, without lawful authority, a means of identification of another person or a false identification document shall, in addition to the punishment provided for such felony, be sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 5 years.
(c) Definition.-- For purposes of this section, the term "felony violation enumerated in subsection (c)" means any offense that is a felony violation of-- (1) section 641 (relating to theft of public money, property, or rewards [1]), section 656 (relating to theft, embezzlement, or misapplication by bank officer or employee), or section 664 (relating to theft from employee benefit plans); (2) section 911 (relating to false personation of citizenship); (3) section 922 (a)(6) (relating to false statements in connection with the acquisition of a firearm); (4) any provision contained in this chapter (relating to fraud and false statements), other than this section or section 1028 (a)(7); (5) any provision contained in chapter 63 (relating to mail, bank, and wire fraud); (6) any provision contained in chapter 69 (relating to nationality and citizenship); (7) any provision contained in chapter 75 (relating to passports and visas); (8) section 523 of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (15 U.S.C. 6823) (relating to obtaining customer information by false pretenses); (9) section 243 or 266 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1253 and 1306) (relating to willfully failing to leave the United States after deportation and creating a counterfeit alien registration card); (10) any provision contained in chapter 8 of title II of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1321 et seq.) (relating to various immigration offenses); or (11) section 208, 811, 1107(b), 1128B(a), or 1632 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 408, 1011, 1307 (b), 1320a-7b (a), and 1383a) (relating to false statements relating to programs under the Act).
The interesting side of this is that people who stay in good shape and are generally ahead of the curve may see some benefits in the premiums they pay. Sloth (the sin, not the hero of goonies) will be actually financially penalized.
All sorts of horrible implications to this, diseases people cant control, genetic manipulation of kids seems much more practical and desirable as a finnacial benefit to avoid fees now too. Great moral implications and debates on this one.
Did that have a meaning before harry potter, or did they have to license that?
I mean, great name and visual from the books/movies, but a quick search only showed harry potter realted results, and dictionary.com didnt know it either.
Im not going to do it... as I know the clever thing for this thread will be to post something off topic, incidiary, and generally annoying to the typical slashdot crowd.
OK, thats enough of that, sitting here typing on my superior-to-linux windows box (thanks microsoft!)
You know what else you didnt think of? Considering the cost of a honda civic, and gas mileage, not to mention it has room for 4 comfortably, a great track record of fuel efficiency and reliability, we are forgetting the realization that you are seemingly pretty damn boring as a human.
"Why yes Tina, that was a commercial for Ferrari, followed by a Tiffanys spot. What was that.., oh, your panties just semeed to have fallen to your shoes."
I think more people know what firefox is, as the "browser that works better and has less viruses" to the general public.
Mozilla is relatively unknown to people outside of our little slashosphere.

Thats what i thought it said...seems more applicable here on /. anyways :)

Its clearly a way to keep you posting.

It seems that Georgian military units are pinging off the map, while russian units are enjoying first shot capability.
This has allowed the Russians to clear each map easily, with little resistance.

best of luck with the new job!

"I hope he finally gets what he so richly deserves, legal punishment."
Good luck on your lawsuit against him! From the langauge of the email, you must be very upset it's only legal punishement you can provide!
good advice!
ill put that in my palm pilot notes right now.
