Monsanto's history of winning is really, really bad.
Monsanto needs to go away. Not only are they simply predatory, they are actually dangerous to the environment. Let's pretend that insecticide plants will never ever harm humans in any quantity. Let's just talk about the surviving insects who are developing immunity to the chemicals and becoming super-bugs. Will Monsanto be held liable for this creation of theirs?
Isn't that like blaming the copyright holder for not controlling distribution?
FWIW, I am on the side of the people/farmers on this. There are too many problems with this genetically modified seed for it to be allowed to continue. There is a farmer's tradition of process and of course there is nature. But on top of that, breeding plants which create their own insecticide? Isn't it ALREADY creating super-bugs?
I would like to read what the Obama administration has to say about it and to hear what Romney would have to say about the issue as well. Other candidates would be great to hear from also, but the electoral colleges will not vote for anyone but the approved candidates selected from one of two parties.
Did you actually READ your bible? It's all in there. I can't see how you can call yourself Jewish/Christian/Muslim without knowing the whole story. And if you're something else? eh... I got less to say about it...
I was going to offer a completely different comment until I saw your comment.
They are not worse than terrorists. They *ARE* terrorists. The whole point of religion is to prey on fear. The wrath of god and the requirement of death and suffering for sins is written throughout. It is entirely about punishment for thinking wrong, acting wrong, dressing wrong and even eating wrong... and don't even look the wrong way lest ye be turned to salt.
The wrath of the loving god is all around us and we must repent or forever live in the jewish trash dump which has somehow become the "hell" we know and love today.
If ever there was a group of people who prey on others through terror...
My first reaction was "Is this to replace FAT?" Then I read about "log files" and I wonder if this is essentially a file system for more efficient logging. The article and the mailing list message seem to be somewhat empty in that regard. "Hey, there's a new file system..." That's about the size of it. So what's it about?
It would be interesting if there were an improvement to FAT and it somehow ended up as an alternative in consumer devices... but then again, how to get it onto Windows machines? "driver software" I suppose...
No, the more I think about it, the more I believe it's a limited purpose file system intended to improve something about internal record keeping in embedded Linux devices.
Sorry. You're on the grid. You can't *REALLY* decide where your electricity comes from. You can only decide who you will pay. That is *not* the same thing at all.
Actually it's STILL important to move to electric cars.
The problem is that with our infrastructure, we're "locked in" to a single source of energy. By moving to electric, we are enabling multiple sources of energy. So even if the source isn't "clean" initially, the infrastructure could later migrate to other, cleaner sources. But by staying with fuel burning cars, we are guaranteeing no progress.
ALSO, just because some will burn "dirty source electric" while others will burn clean source electric, we will STILL likely see some benefit from reduction of emissions, but at the very least, we will have positioned ourselves for positive movement. The biggest holdback is infrastructure.
This is really like the early days when trains and cars required infrastructure to operate... and they still do. We just don't think about it. We need a better electrical infrastructure and an improvements on the multitude of clean sources including nuclear. (When nuclear is done right under today's modern designs, not 1960's and before tech that we see failing these days, nuclear is CLEAN and manageable and supplies the power the world needs.)
First step is to ween away from burning things to make energy and just because we won't see huge immediate improvements doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. It's a long term investment we're talking about, not a short-term investment.
Advertisers: This is not the "wrong choice for consumers." It's the right choice for PEOPLE. It just happens to be negative for advertisers who have grown fat and lazy using a medium that is nearly free and mostly paid for by the 'consumers.'
Screw you all. Respect the eyes of the people using the internet. I stopped watching TV because (1) they want me to pay for it and (2) I still get my intelligence assaulted with advertisements. I pay for internet but I can control who advertises as me and I will. I don't owe you a living at my expense. Take a page out of Google's playbook -- give us some actual value and give us a reason not to block you sorry asses.
So advertisers go out there not saying what they mean, once again. Why can't they just speak the truth?! "It hurts our marketing value." Tough shit. BUILD your market and stop riding on the coat tails of other people creating their markets.
It's "more space junk." If there was this lone object in orbit? Okay maybe. But we're talking about our planet with lots of stuff up there now. LOTS of stuff. And then meteor showers and crap?
And even if somehow this one trinket found its way into the hands/claws/tentacles of a being from space, are they supposed to be convinced of something? I mean really. Oh look, among all this stuff, there are creatures out there... sending some kind of message... I will go visit them!
"Mixed message" is the best we've got? And for fuck's sake... we've got actual people in orbit... people to talk to.
They are making a lot of money!! Don't let things like large scale damage to property and possible loss of life or other environmental concerns interfere with their god-given right to make money!
How long was there denial of the connection between smoking and cancer? Money at stake... much denial resulted.
Global warming? Same thing... still going on
A separation of church and state needs to happen... and by church I mean money... that *IS* their god after all.
Google did the Google Nexus 7 and it hasn't upset Android makers as far as I can tell. But it does upset carriers who capitalize on their ablity to have devices locked down so that they can take the most advantage of consumers possible.
I think what Microsoft is doing will give the new Windows Tablets/phones the best possible opportunity for success (or failure) by setting the bar at a particular level. OEMs are free to exceed the Microsoft model, but it would upset consumers to not at least meet the standards set out there by Mocrosoft's base model. And when software/firmware updates come out for the Microsoft device, they had damn well come out for the OEM phones and tablets too. In the end, it should upset carriers more than it should upset manufacturers.
Note that it is banned unless it it labelled "dietary supplement" which means it can't even be placed on the same shelf as "sweet'n'low" and other sweeteners. The use of Rebaudioside A hasn't yet caught on though stevia has been used in Japan for a very long time.
Other nations, for example, limit the import of Frito-lay products due to their content.
Thanks for quoting a quote from the very guy whose integrity is under scrutiny.
Many of us are quite aware of what he has said and it has all invariably become additional proof that this guy doesn't know what he thinks he knows and convinced the rest of the jury that he was an expert and they all followed him. Great. His notions of "compatibility" when judging patents are completely wrong and so any of the decisions he participated in making are in serious question.
It has also been demonstrated that he had disregarded more than one of the judge's instructions and so any and all of what he has said and done is doubtful.
I think you have no idea what you're talking about.
The prior art most often being discussed was prior art showing that Apple's claims to their patents are weak if not completely invalid. It has nothing to do with prior art submitted by Apple in its defense against Samsung claims.
So yes, it doesn't take long to research these things... or does it? I think you haven't been following the details of this story as many here have.
He is not likely to forget about that particular legal suit brought against him by Seagate. The question never asked anything about specific but instead asked him to state if he EVER... (Not this "within the last 10 years" crap... something the juror himself pulled out of his ass... quite likely to cloud the situation and to keep himself out of trouble if that's possible.) The preponderance of evidence suggests strongly that his ownership of a patent and that he was directly sued in connection with patent claims by Seagate (largely owned by Samsung) and the fact that he claims expertise and understanding of the patent system combined with the fact that despite that there were jury instructions to the contrary, this jury [steered by its foreman] decided to "send a message" by making the awards punitive in nature.
So yeah, I'd say that was proof enough. That his interviews reveal him as an idiot does offer a reasonable argument that he is simply an idiot, but that he had an axe to grind and that it would have disqualified him from being on the jury (let alone being its foreman) were it not for his ommision of fact and failure to answer the question which was posed to him.
So yet another story identifying the harm to the public and to the industry which software patents bring. We need more and more of this. It's the new global warming -- there will always be deniers but as time and opinions increase, the deniers are becoming more silent.
"But [I/we/they] worked hard to create this [thing]. [I/We/They] deserve to collect money from everyone based on that."
Many of the most healthy foods and additives are limited or outright banned thanks to lobbying and FDA hackery. Meanwhile HFCS runs rampant all over the place. The government ALREADY controls and limits. They are just doing it wrong.
Meanwhile, other nations are doing it right and their obesity rates are nerly zero compared to the US.
The majority of calories burned each day whether you are an exercise nut or a couch potato is spent while sleeping and otherwise just living. Adding exercise to the mix has other benefits, but not fighting obesity.
People: Need to change WHAT they eat Government: Needs to change what is available to eat
We no longer have any checks and balances. At every turn, the government claims it has no requirement to address public concerns and does not need to follow its own processes.
As instances like these continue to mount, every government employee places themselves into further jeopardy from the top to the bottom. TSA workers (of which I was once one) who continue to cite that they have bills to pay and are only following orders will faith the most convenient wrath of nutbags out there who will do anything ranging from nude protests to verbal and even physical assaults. This will escallate unless it is addressed. Things I dare not say will happen unless the government begins to once again listen to the people they are supposed to be representing.
I really wish people would get over this ridiculous "I hate jews" crap. You literally cannot hate an entire category of people regardless of how precise you are about it. And "jews" (kikes if you must) is an extremely imprecise categary.
I *want* to hate the jews. I really do. Convenient to blame problems on. And we've got lots of them. We've got the money systems. We've got wars. We've got victims being victimizers and lots and lots more. But with few exceptions, every jew I have known personally, I found to be endearing and intelligent people. At best you're looking at a small selection of very powerful assholes.
Microsoft being Microsoft, they can't write to anything other than x86. They tried with Windows NT supporting other architectures and it just didn't work out for them. They failed miserably with Windows XP 64 bit too. So here they go again with their half-assed attempt at supporting anohter architecture and it's underwhelming the marketplace which has grown to love and expect the ARM. Microsoft will not get off their Win32 asses and make serious changes. Their myopic style will eventually put them in the same league with RIM. For a while, Microsoft will be "business only/primary" and then they'll fade away.
They WILL NOT CHANGE. At first, it made sense not to change... not wanting to offend developers. Now they are offending developers anyway and look what's about to happen?

This sort of reminds me of the Southpark episodes about WoW. Hilarious.

Arlington, VA. Go from Rosslyn to Falls Church... hell of a ride until you get used to it.
What causes obesity? Eating wrong. Nothing else.

No it's not. Religion is a GLARING exception in a mind which might otherwise be consistently rational. It's a corruption of thought.
