Netflix doesn's spam. BTW your first link links to a malware site. The second describes that it was not netflix, but a spammer advertising netflix.
This is the problem with affiliate systems. People will always find ways to abuse them, and it will not be the original company. I have recieved affiliate spam that eventually goes through amazon. Was amazon responsible? No.
Granted, some companies do a better job of policing their affiliates, but all it takes is registering a few dozen domains, pasting up some crap pages, signing up for a new affiliate account, and firing off your lists again. Meanwhile pages on those same domains are serving up 'free ipad' ads to the unwary and harvesting more emails.

  19. Definition of customer centric on Microsoft Apologizes For Cavalier 'Always-Online' DRM Tweets · · Score: 5, Funny
From the Microsoft dictionary, 3rd ed.

Customer Centric adj. Pertaining to any system in which the customer is trapped in the center and cannot easily remove himself. Originally this was accomplished through vendor lock-in and market share, due to changing market conditions it is now largely realized using various IP protection methods, including lawsuits against wayward users, DRM platforms, and DMCA crackdowns. If the newest legislation passes congress this month, we may should be able to add to our customer cenrtic portfolio by having over-zealous prosecutors press criminal charges on customers who stray beyond the bounds of the impenetrable EULA or any TOS we care to write. Currently customers are also kept centralized by the fact that there is no possible legal recourse to any malfeasance or negligence on our part due to the fact that all our customer-facing contracts specify that all disputes must be settled by arbitration, using arbitrators of our choosing.

This method of detecting exoplanets is called transit detection, and does indeed require that the solar system be edge on in relation to our view: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exoplanet#Detection_methods
So does the doppler method, but I believe there can be a little more difference in the angle, as a doppler shift is slightly easier to measure than a bightness shift, but I am not an expert, I just think I read that somewhere.
Also, IIRC, the astrometry method, which is not very useful requires the solar system to be at about a 90 degree angle in relation to ours.
