The reason that you think it that way is due to the bad track record of freedeom China. Everything that would result in blockage of information is very sensitive, we can understand that.

In fact the nationwide inspection of illegal established netcafes has already begun BEFORE the instance. I'm sure NY does not have 90% unlicensed netcafe, does it? Illegal opening of netcafes not only endanger the safety of their customers, it also causes social problems as it attracts drug-dealers and prostitutes(no kidding, ask a Chinese).

However, when we think the other way round, if China Government did'nt put too much restriction in licnesing netcafes there wouldn't be that many illegal operating shops, thus results in this tragedy. Hell I'm not totally disagree with you! LESS RESTRICTION TO NETCAFES PLEASE!

The students are killed as all possible exits were either blocked or locked up.

The building has only one entrance/exit, and it was locked at the time of fire, and the windows were barred with steel. As a matter of fact the owner didn't get proper license to open an Internet cafe and the door was always locked to avoid inspection. The windows were barred to prevent thievery, and it's not unusual to see many factories and commercial buildings have their windows barred for this reason.

As a result the authority shutdown all Internet cafes for safety and license inspection. In fact only 1/10 of the Internet cafes got proper commercial license for. It's not an action against civilians' Internet access, at least not directly.

Of course, I'd expect people in Beijing has tough time accessing Internet in the future, as the conservative people would sneak chance to impose more restrictions. :(

Nowaday? Blah! Your company treated you as 'resources'(when you can be used) or 'headcount'(in time of downsizing); the vision/mission/values are well-written but the real meaning behind them is 'profit'; your contribution is not important when it's not directly contributed to profit; downsizing would increase stock values so the hell with morale; they paid you just enough to keep you, while your company tries their best to get the most out of their customers; the word loyality means nothing to your managers, but it's still being used when you are asked to accept unfavourable offers; when you aren't work overtime you are not competitive enough; 'insubordinate' in your review refers to anything you did/acted/said that didn't suit your bosses; you could hardly find an employee contract that does not include statements that fuck you up and over...

and the sadiest thing of all, is that most people read above paragraph will respond with 'so what? that's normal'.

So what's my opinion? Get the best you can get! Loot while you are there! They got the most out of their customers could give, it's obligatory to get the most out of your company. Don't be fooled by lies they learnt from management courses, like 'you are company's most valuable asset'(1/1459 of 15% of company's annual expenses), 'the work itself is a reward'(while I took the monetary counterpart), and 'you are at the top on the list of potential promotion'(scores sorted in accending order), etc.

First you must sign NDA to be allowed to program a GSM sim, then when you've done with the sim you must sign a partnership(aka pay them big bucks of money) agreement with telcos and mobile makers so that they'd ever consider recognize the sim cards you made. Otherwise they can always deny your sim from accessing their network. The problem is that when you asked one Telco/mobile maker to sign an agreement with you, they'll probably include in the agreement forbid you from signing a similar agreement with their competitors. There goes the market penetration.

That's why you don't see much special purpose sim card around. Unlike PC market, the business of mobile markets are controlled by the telcos and mobile makers.

DRM would probably not work in PC market, but it would succeed in such a business environment where the business are controlled by several big corps.

Octopus has become a society problems here. Kids are allowed to use the Octopus to pay goods and services in many areas like department store and internet Cafe, etc. People are concerned that while the payment is untrackable, their parents cannot tell where their kids spent their money.

Location-based tracking system is a rather profitable business here because GPS generally fails to work in a city with a lot of high-rising buildings due to blocking and reflection. People are now developing location-based tracking with GPS sims and it works great. I don't think Octopus is better than GSM sims in this case as in normal case a GSM sims is synchronized with 6 GSM location based stations(NNM system) and the result is close to 25M radius.
