    I do not want to use TurboLinux because, afaik, TL made some modifications to the kernel without GPLing them. They said those modifications are 'add-on' thus not GPL them.

    I don't want to run a Linux with non-GPL components in it. If I do, why not W2K? :)

    I might be wrong, because they might have changed the license term by now....have they?

    How can we tell if some of the contestants were not the same group of persons using that binary?

    If this was the case then reverse engineering it might be pretty straight forward. :)

    The major reason we like base-10 system is that we have ten fingers and we used to it. In fact having to use 12 hours(24 hours a day) and 60 minutes/seconds system is much better.

    Those numbers can be divided by many integers, e.g. 12 can be divided by 2, 3, 4, 6, while 10 can only be divided by 2 and 5. The characteristic is so useful but most people don't realize. Say, we usually use 'a quarter' than '15-minute', right?

    I'm not sure if it's off-topic, but I've a gut feeling that Microsoft comes to show you little kids how a big guy plays the game.

    We've an exhibition in Hong Kong with Microsoft's booth surrounded by their rival companies.

    Microsoft didn't bring any technical man, not much sales or marketing guys, no free gifts. However, we all lost the publicity - see it yourself why

    Can you top that?

    Imagine the cost of sending individual SMS messages for advertising. Those ads you've received are usually broadcast messages from companies who have business deal with your telco. I don't know about your phone, but there's always an option to turn off broadcast SMS message from business partners of your telco.

    unfortunatly for us in the USA the cell phone system of Aisa is WAY better than here...

    I'm not sure about US, but I'm using a cell phone talking to my friends while looking at his face. This little cute thing cost me about...US$576.

    Is it too costly in term of US' standard? Are we buying stuffs by its features rather than its price? I don't know, but we all think US' electronics are more expensive with less features, but they are more reliable and with good brandname. :)

    Fa = Rules, methods, ways

    Lun = a wheel.

    Gong = a closest term in English is 'breathing excise', this is exactly the same word 'kung' as in the popular term 'Kungfu'. Of course, Gong always refer to prolong practice which will eventually lead to ultima goal of getting harmony with the Universe. Some people would consider practising 'Gong' as a method of making themselves stronger, to fight better, etc.. In fact, there are a lots of different 'Gong' in Chinese's history.

    I'm not a memeber of Fa Lun Gong, and I really not in position to speak for them, but to my best of the knowledge, their 'Gong' is strongly related to religion as the 'FaLun' is an equipment being used by the monks of Buddhism. The 'FaLun', in buddhism, is a symbol of the Universe.

    FaLun Gong, thus, is a 'Gong' to practise in order to build a 'FaLun' within your own body.

    Their theory seems so unrealistic to me.

    Yeah, seems that they're really taking efforts in it.

    I always thought IBM's jdk 1.3 is the fastest(without any optimization) jvm around, until Sun's JDK 1.4 comes out. It's amazingly fast.

    Run your apps with this new jvm and you'll see the different.

    It's been used in mobile phones for years. Try it with your Nokia mobile, while you're entering a name, press #, you'll see the 'abc/ABC' to the top-left of the LCD changed. When it changed to something like '=Abc', the prediction mode is on.

    May be it's becoming very special when it's being visualized/animated, isn't it? :)

    So, is like Ask Slashdot now the Free Legal Advice Center or what? Doesn't your company have any lawyers of your own?

    May be his lawyers didn't give him satisfying answers.

    E.g. Whenver we asked our lawyer about any legal issue on areas he doesn't understand. The best answer he could give is "I don't recommend you doing this". Case solved, the rest is not his problem. Isn't life easier for him(not for us of course).

    May be our CEO should consider hiring someone else less defensive.

    Blah, we don't need no OS running a Cray. Legend has it that Seymour Cray (who invented the Cray-1 supercomputer, and most of Control Data's computers) actually toggled the first operating system for the CDC-7600 in on the front panel from memory when it was first powered on. Rumor has it that SV2 bootstrap the brain of the admin in front of it and start cloning...

    It's an old saying. Well-written java application like JEdit and Netbeans have the degree of portability Java should have. You said Java is a moving target of your taste, while you want us to pardon the chaos from Perl 5 to Perl 6 just because you like Perl? :)

    Nowaday we can still hear the echo of screaming of my colleagues when they ran Perl 5 codes on Perl 6. :)

    MS plans not to have the JVM in future versions of Windows though

    This will make Sun more focusing on backend Java, an area where Microsoft has lost a lot of grounds.

    If they'd really want to hurt Sun, they could just make a version of JVM which is hardly up-to-date and sometime incompatible with Sun's, like they did before. Come to think of it, this plan is doing good to the industry!

    One of our sales people promised that we'd have this project done for the end of June.

    Our salesperson promised to complete the the project with 4 people max. Now we have 40+ dudes in a room to rush for the deadline which has been changed 7 times in the past three years. I think if we end up deliver bad codes it's our fault and we should be damned to hell while the salesperson gets credit.

    (Actually he really got promoted last year. We've reason to doubt the sanity of our management)
