That information is on a public Web site...the experts I talked with suggested that having it so readily available is "amazingly stupid" of any data mining company.

Funny and scary at the same time.

    Even scarier is:
In fact, the mailing list of more than 259,000 names is also on the site, and easily downloaded.

    Amazingly stupid indeed.

While my windows box was down, i took to using linux just to see if i could do it. Every one of your points are valid. My biggest gripe is package installation. While YUM and APT are neat, very few peoplw want to use the CLI to install software. Even fewer want to (or are able to) install from source. Windows are able to make cross-version binary compatible apps, why not linux?

For under $1k(decimal) US, I'll set you up with an SLI or Crossfire rig with 4 DVI outputs. You can span displays to your heart's content.

Personally i'd like to get 4 of these in a 2x2 wall mounted configuration.

Also worthy of note is that one will be unable to run more than 2 of any 30" display as they require dual-link DVI to get the bandwidth they require.

The essence of what you're looking for here is an unattended windows * install with hotfixes and updates streamlined. You can even go a bit further and build in additional drivers and software(JRE or AV, anyone?). In my experience as a tech, XP is the OS I find myself reload most often. One can also do unattended reloads of W98/ME/2k as well. All involve similar google searches.

My terminology may be off here, im trying to convey the concept of /home in linux and user-installs. Linux will allow you to install whatever you want, but most stuff ends up in /home/joesixpack. Install all ya want. Reinstall useful stuff as root. Create new user, delete old - good as new.
