    You're absolutely right.
There is a huge community out there improving on and refining the design, helping each other through builds. These cars (especially when fitted with light, powerful motorbike engines) can do 0-60 in under 4 seconds, lap racing circuits quicker than just about any road car and usually cost anywhere from $500 to about $12,000 to build. As far as value / performance goes they're untouchable.
A quick plug for the UK locost builders website http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/, and here's the web site for the one I built and raced myself http://members.lycos.co.uk/alister667/, although watch out Lycos is pop-up-tastic!

It does have an on board video card, but it is pretty limited as far as 3D goes. You can get a PCI Nvidia or somesuch to seriously speed up 3D apps. I guess it's in case you want to play quake somewhere really, really small.

If you have a look at the link 'Mongo's Music' it shows how you can encode mp3s from the radio, then copy the file from phone to phone, as well as encode from a CD player, and then copy to a computer. The RIAA does have a problem with that. The copying files phone to phone (I guess it would be done via wires rather than wireless) is a neat feature, although I have a feeling it will be implemented using the headphone socket to a line in socket, thus requiring re-sampling of an analog signal rather than a digital transfer. I live in Europe, I listen to a lot of music, I haven't got a portable mp3 player and I have a fairly old mobile phone. I might get one. If the 5 games on it include Doom and Quake!
