    Cable modems are generally slower sending data than recieving it. But it is possible that they applied the transfer cap.
    the article says 120kbps. your transfer rate is going 15kBps.
    8 bits per byte.
    8X15=120kbps
    Looks about right to me.

    Burlington Coat Factory announced a while back that they were replacing all the computer systems in their chain with Linux machines. Rather much like Home Depot just announced.

    They're probably going to talk about how the deployment is going.

    Uhmm.. Actually that is the basic idea behind Communism. A community working together. Sharing the work equally and sharing the rewards equally.

    I personally think the open source community is rather much like communism, but what people don't realise is that this is not a bad thing. Communism is not evil. It just dosen't work as a form of government. There are too many people that would slack off if they were going to receive the same end results no matter how much they work, so the government has to make sure that everyone works hard.

    With software though, everyone is working on fixing something that THEY want fixed, so they're more inclinded to work, and they end up helping the whole in the end. Not to mention that slacking people who just want the end result don't take anything away from the people who are working hard.

    Who does the maintenance of 1.2? or 1.0 for that matter?

    Alan has already said that this 2.0.37 will be the last of the 2.0 series barring any security holes found. Unless they find a security hole, what sort of maintanance would they need? I mean, they're not about to add new features to the last generation of kernels.

    Actually, the idea of divx was buy a DIVX disk at a reduced price instead of renting a movie. Then each additional time you watch it, you pay for it again.

    So it's like rentals, but you never have to return the item.

    Maybe an ok idea in concept, but horrible in practice. Expecially if someone keeps playing the same movie over and over at your house without knowing that you'd be paying for it (amoung other problems)

    The origional story was for their top of the line million dollar server that was the size of the PC.

    This is a new machine that costs $1000 from the same company.

    That would make this a completely new story.

    Both have come from Corel and have great backgrounds, Jason was a Marketing Manager for the Netwinder and I seem to recall that Zack helped port Strong Arm to the Netwinder as well? (correct me if I'm wrong)

    I'd have to say you're wrong.
    Strong Arm is the processor used in the Netwinder. That would be like saying someone ported Pentium to the Compaq Presario.

    Maybe he helped port Linux to the Strongarm for the Netwinder.

    Windows CE is an operating system. You can't plug a digital/cellular card into an operating system.

    What device (that uses Windows CE) are you talking about?

    There's a difference between using Linux and reading the Linux source :P

    I've been using Linux for a year and a half or so, and the most I've done is glaced at small parts of the source code once or twice.

    you, the Linux user, should have the latest version of our code along with the Windows user.

    They're probably not using the best words when dealing with the open source community. It sounds a bit like we're going to have access to the latest CODE, but somehow I doubt that's what they meant.

    wow.. really? Care to show me how to setup multi-headed Matrox Millenium G200 cards in linux?

    We tried getting them working at my job. Accellerated X said they could do it. Then they said they couldn't. (with those cards)

    Metro-X said they can do it.. then they said they couldn't. The only way to get multi-headed G200 support in Metro-X is by mixing a G200 with a Millenium or a Millenium II. You can't use 2 G200's.

    I tried traceroute, but it didn't help.
    I was dailing into the server, so it showed 1 hop.
    Someone suggested it could be whatever is connecting the modems to the server itself.

    I'm working on moving away from them currently.
    try fingering my account sometime. Only time i've ever seen a load balance of 16 on a Unix machine. Before that, the highest I'd seen was a 6.0 on a heavily used mailhub/proxy server/Netscape Calendar server at my old job.

    Not to mention that when I dial into the World, I get 500ms ping times to world.std.com. When I access the internet in any other way, I get 100ms or less. The server responds quick unless you're directly connected to it. :/

    Uh huh.
    I'm sure the guys over at WineHQ couldn't find a single peice of code that they could need.

    You'd have to admit, open sourced Windows would be a great step in getting win32 applications working CORRECTLY on Linux. While they're doing a great job with Wine, there's still a lot to do that would be a lot easier with the origional source (GPLed of course)
