Spacesim genre on PC has been basically dead since the late great FreeSpace 2. Okay, there was Freelancer which was semi-decent, but nothing compared to the old great hits like Tie Fighter, best of Wing Commander, Privateer, Tachyon, Independence War or even all the way back to Elite series.
I don't see Hardwar in that list, which is a shame, since it's a great game imo. Might be tough getting a hold of it, but it's definitely worth it.
I do indeed watch NCIS, and as much as I enjoy the show, the way it glorifies both huge databases with everything you ever wanted to know about everybody but were afraid to ask, as well as agencies blatantly overstepping their jurisdictions, perform searches without warrants etc, bothers me quite a lot.
It's fictional. I'm sure there's plenty of good people in law enforcement fighting the good fight and struggling against pesky regulations, but all it takes is one asshat abusing the information he has at his fingertips for people's lives to get permanently ruined.
Actually, it's nothing like that because taxation is government seizing resources by force. No one pays taxes because they actually want to, otherwise it would voluntary. If you think government is all about about doing the public some sort of favor, you're getting only 10 percent of the picture. The other 90 percent is what you don't see on the news. Government, as an institution, has always been more about power than public service.
No, it's the government taking resources they've been empowered by the voters to take. If you believe otherwise, why don't you run yourself on a "0 taxes, 0 public services, the public can sort itself out just fine thank you so very much" platform?
Bullshit. Get a couple thousand people together and go sit in a park somewhere with banners, megaphones and other ways of attracting attention. Make sure to tip the press. Sit there and tell anyone who will listen you're not leaving till an official with the power to do so has promised to investigate this matter.
Passive resistance still works, and so long as there's lots of free press around the authorities really can't do all that much about it.
And I didn't see anyone displaying smug contempt about casualties. I just wish a calamity like New Orleans would attract as much attention and funding as 9/11 did.
There are ways of preparing for calamities. The Japanese live in earthquake country, the Dutch below sea level, and there's plenty more examples to pick from. And considering New Orleans serves the same purpose for the US as Rotterdam does for a large part of Europe, there's a definite economic incentive. Add the cultural aspects for extra flavor.
Right... because this is about Russia. If it were about the US... go ahead and jump to conclusions... but this only Russia.
Don't you just love public sentiment?
The US has got some serious PR work to do, and since a lot of people have started to stop falling for the spin, what with them nasty interwebs and all, it's gotta be actual actions and now just words.
Not saying it's right, or that it is the way things actually are. Just the way things are perceived right now.
Hey, it's not like there's other places in the world where people live quite safely below sea level. Of course that does involve these big lumps of sand and rocks to keep the water out, and those take taxes(hiss, spit!) to build.
Are you Dutch? Because otherwise I'm wondering where on earth you get your info from.
And yes, we're about the rudest europeans around. As for banks and authorities, I very much doubt that. If all else fails, bring a friend/colleague to translate.
And sure, there's plenty of dickheads who'll look askew at anyone with the wrong skin color, like pretty much all over the planet.
As for making fun of germans, they're a special case;-) And I say that as someone who lives smack dab in the middle of their favorite holiday destination and has to spend all summer avoiding getting run over by big cars with white number plates:P
If you had actually read that website you promote here, you'd know that the Netherlands should be the very last choice on your list. An American can't live there, the cultures are completely incompatible.
Oh, and everybody does not speak English in NL.
Yeah, "everybody"'s a bit broad, say 90% speaks it at least well enough to give you directions?
As for the culture, wtf? Yeah, we're way to the left politically speaking compared to the US, but surely someone who's willing to look beyond their own borders for work is willing to adapt to the possibility that, while strange to get used to, a different system might actually work as well?
Unless, of course, we continue with the Al Gore/Dick Cheney model of increasing responsibility and activity from the Vice President's office...
There's 1 important difference though. Something tells me that if Palin sticks a shotgun in somebody's face that somebody doesn't get to tell the tale;-)
all she has to do is start tapping her foot or give some other indication that her speaking time is being infringed and it really makes Biden look bad.
Oh waily, waily, now she's doing the tappings of the foot! Next there'll be the folding of the arms!
Mass Effect. Absolutely no online gameplay content, but requires that you connect to the Internet for its DRM.
Not to mention their "update" (bring down the sky) did not fix the overheating which imo is seriously gamebreaking, and there's not a word anywhere that they're even planning to fix it.
And so the realist compromises, and allows minor infractions of what remains of his ideology, and one day he wakes up to find the elected leader of his country with his trousers(afraid to use the word pants these days) around his ankles taking a dump on the constitution.
As inspiring as your post is, there's an entire spectrum of grays between hardcore idealism on one side and happily doing business with Hitler(Godwin alert!) on the other. At some point you have to draw a line in the sand and say "no further". And to be honest, I'd really like to see more idealist youngsters in the streets causing ruckus and drawing attention to what's wrong before they too inevitable join the ranks of the realists.
Wow. One would think that if there's one thing you'd want under central control It'd be something like the powergrid. Infrastructure like road, rail and power are the major blood vessels of a country. Of course, if your politicians are *that* untrustworthy, maybe you've got bigger issues to deal with?
*Waits for Russia to acknowledge the independance of Texas*
From the article it sounds like a voice code phrase to authenticate yourself over the phone. They staff has to be able to see it to verify it. It isn't a computer password.
"I am the systems administrator. My voice is my password. Verify me."
No matter HOW efficient car racing gets, it is still 100% waste.
Don't get me wrong: most hobbies, including mine, are a waste of energy. Rather, I / someone gets enjoyment in return for the energy expenditure...but in the end, little / no actual work is done.
Even if a NASCAR race can be done with 1 gallon of gas...in the end, 1 gallon is gone, and all the cars are where they started.
Considering how many people are alive today thanks to technologies developed in racing...think ABS, Traction Control, etc.
Think of racing as the ultimate stress test for new automobile technologies, extending this to green tech only makes sense.
Tho I'm sure Obama knows where his house is, too. Right next door to a convicted felon. Tell me again why Gov Blago isn't speaking at the convention this week?
Considering the kind of stuff you americans get riled up about during elections, it's amazing how long it's taking you to completely flush your country down the crapper.
From a purely scientific viewpoint it's a pretty interesting experiment though. If we assume an hypothesis that the country as a whole is completely batshit insane, and the elections are the experiment to prove it, I wonder how many time the whole things needs to be repeated before we can air it on Discovery?
To put things in context, for a lot of us folks on the outside the concept of McCain actually getting anywhere near enough votes to be a contender, especially in view of the last 8 years, is simply amazing. Not saying Obama is the holy grail though, far from it.

To be honest if there's one country I'd expect to actually get out of their chairs and protest in the streets over this, it's the french.

Lose the press, lose your freedom.
Wow, you really dislike the dutch, don't you?

Sorry, I'm not even going to bother picking your points apart since they're all at least partially false.
You still didn't answer the question where *you* are from though.
Are you Dutch? Because otherwise I'm wondering where on earth you get your info from.

I wrote a complete irc framework in Perl just to be able to get away from mIRC :P

Internet spaceships is serious business, mkay?
(Don't worry Mr. Fed, I'm presently only entitled to overthrow the Dutch government and so far I can tolerate their share of gross incompetence.)
Hey, at least we have more than 2 parties to pick from. Too bad so many people pick the wrong ones though... ;-)

So, if I understand you correct, the powergrid is like a series of tubes, and not a truck you can just dump a few GwH on?

Sir, would you please remove any metal you have on your person? ... Sir, why are you sitting on the floor?
Sir, why are those round objects with 6 small pipes in them attached to your arms beginning to spin?
Include an emergency ejection system for the fuel cell that launches it a 100 feet into the air "to protect the driver" for added fireworks ;-)
