Considering Sarkozy got only 1% less of the vote than Hollande in the first round, it's far too early to call it. All the folks that voted for other candidates will pick 1 of the 2 in the next round, and considering the massive amount of votes that went to Le Pen...we might very well be seeing more of Sarkozy.
As long as US taxpayers continue to elect people based on soundbites, wavy hair and perfect teeth, then yes, you reap what you sow.
That's the part people keep forgetting about living in a democracy. Not only do you have the power to elect the government, you also bear responsibility for the actions of said government.
Nice sentiment. Too bad it has been proven time and time again that it only works for those who are wealthy enough to hide behind walled gardens and personal security while the rest of society goes to hell.
I for one am glad to live in a nation where even if my neighbor is the most useless sack of shit ever, his children won't have to go out and steal from my children but will instead have access to education and healthcare so as to be able to carve out a life for themselves.
And yet, by voting for them we force the more established political parties to put privacy on their agenda's as well, instead of shamelessly sucking the USA cock whenever it's held in front of their faces.
Besides, as a fellow Dutchman...are *any* of the other parties at the moment worth putting a vote in? They're either corrupt, inept, hopelessly ideological to the point of delusion...or all of the above.
Might as well go with the one that shares some important values.
In that case either the CIO is a really poor judge of character or every single one of his underlings is a bullshit artist.
At some point an executive has to figure who the folks are that he can trust to give him(m/f) the right answer, instead of the one he wants to hear. If you can't trust the folks working for you not to bullshit you, you're in deep shit.
I've been arguing for ages that when we bury people, especially important ones, they should be hooked up to generators. From the claims on Slashdot alone about what the Founding Fathers did or did not intend we should be able to produce enough grave-spinning to power a significant city.
The purpose of either capitalism or socialism is mostly to find some sort of way to allocate resources that are scarce. Ground, natural resources, drinking water, food, etc. The only reason that films and music are "scarce" is because we as a society purposely limit the reproduction of such through law. Laws we paid for to write, prosecuted and judged by folks who are once again paid for by us.
In order for capitalism to work there needs to be free and open competition, where companies battle it out for the favor of the customer. Not a single cartel that price-fixes its way straight up your asshole.
So yes, if the kind of scheme GP suggested is what the customer want, then that is what we're eventually going to get. After lots of kicking, screaming and bribery.
No, says the women I know who have had to undergo the procedure for one reason or another.
As for the use of condoms, I repeat the point about there being many methods of preventing conception, the condom being just one of them, although the most suitable for unplanned or short-term sexual relations, due to its added ability to prevent all sorts of nasty diseases.
The Netherlands actually had this for a long time, except it was a yearly sum paid by every household that owned a tv or an apparatus that could be used as such.
These days the public channels are just taken out of the big general taxes, and over-the-airwaves media doesn't actually exist anymore.
Abortion, no matter how you feel about it, is a thoroughly stressful event both physically and mentally for the woman involved.
So yes, nigh on everybody wants to see less of it. And considering all the tools we have at our disposal to prevent conception, there's really no reason why we can't make that a reality, if it weren't for all the people clamoring to withhold those tools in the name of imaginary men in the sky.
So, UNTIL they all figure it like gravity, Let the others believe in God, Allah etc. They aren't harming you.
That's the problem, they *are* harming me, and those I care about. In the name of their deities, they labor to have freedoms removed and curtailed. In the name of their deities, they insist that on their holy day, shops must be closed out of respect. They insist that because their holy book says so, people of the same gender are not allowed to form a relationship the way a man and a women can. Some of them even go so far as to insist that women should not be allowed to wear pants, vote or have a job more meaningful than feeding and clothing the children, and actively work to have these restrictions put (back) into law.
So no, until those who believe settle for doing so in their own time and on their own dime, without burdening society, they can go and royally fuck themselves.
Because for a long time we've ruled the world, and there are many among us rather unwilling to let go of the power and perks that have been accumulated over the centuries.
As for singling out white males...you might want to pay some attention to the news. There's a group of men who tend to wear beards, scarves and with a somewhat darker complexion who are also rather well known for their treatment of women. It's just that because it doesn't apply to us white guys we don't take it personally, so we tend to filter it out.
Every friday at noon a virusscanner kicks in on all our company machines. It uses 50% of the available CPU power(1 core running at full speed out of 2), about 25% of all the available memory and I'd estimate about 180% of the I/O the harddrive has to offer. Typically when we leave for home somewhere between 4 and 5 it's still running, so it'll probably register the scan as incomplete as well.
In other words, we have an entire afternoon where the tools we use for our profession are pretty much useless. I've tried explaining to the higher-ups that if you're going to take away his saw, hammer and nails there's really no point having a carpenter sitting around, but the metaphor seems to have missed. I may have to try again using a car analogy instead.
You know, the folks that have no vested interested in the whole "debate" other than "hey, let's not totally fuck up the planet so our grandchildren can still live here"?
Or are you truly convinced it is some sort of vast conspiracy designed solely to shake good ol' hardworking folk out of their hard-earned money and give it to others?
And as usual in these situations, the ideological battle lines are drawn, yet the most ideal solution lies somewhere on that patch in the middle, obscured by smoke and impact debris.
The US solution places all the power in the hands of the employer, making employees little more than bitches, with the exception of those who are truly unique and gifted and can't be done without.
In the EU, depending on the country, it is extremely difficult to get rid of useless jackasses, hence demoralizing the other folks working there and making employer more and more hesitant about offering long-term contracts.
There is a balance somewhere between the extremes, where both parties get what they want out of the deal without screwing over the entire system. When either employers or unions get to run rampant, the balance breaks, and everyone is worse off.
Not to mention that certain stupid ideas tend to keep popping up, so having on record why it was a bloody stupid idea the last time around saves a heck of a lot of time.
Or...the concept of romantic love that lasts an entire lifetime is a mostly fictional concept that only a very lucky few get to experience while most of us have to live with the reality that relationships are hard work.
Marriages have been put together for far more practical reasons since the dawn of time. To cement peace between two rivalling tribes, to settle business deals, and the list goes on.
These days, women are both far more aware that they have the right to tell their guy to piss off, but contrary to pretty much forever, they also have the financial means to do so, whereas in the past they were wholly dependant on the labor of their spouse, no matter how much of an abusive jackass he might have been,.
Religion is strictly the domain of Homo Sapiens as far as we know.
Apes and dolphins get their jollies male on male as much as they want, and they never even seem to consider whether there's an invisible dolphin or bonobo in the sky that might disapprove.
In the first Mass Effect the romance options were more limited. There was the possibility to play as a male, with 2 females romance options, or the possibility to play as a female, with 1 male and 1 female romance option.
And yes, at this point folks did point out that it was hypocritical/cheap to make lesbianism available (which a lot of straight guys find just as appealing as straight sexuality), but not homosexuality between men.

And how do you propose doing that? Bearing in mind that the similarities between the book and the current situation in the US are...negligible.
Nice sentiment. Too bad it has been proven time and time again that it only works for those who are wealthy enough to hide behind walled gardens and personal security while the rest of society goes to hell.

So, in a nutshell, it's a worthy successor of ME and Vista?
Windows versions are like Star Trek movies, really. *ducks*

Finally men can spend their entire lives going "Vroom! Vroom!" behind the wheel, instead of being forced to stop at the tender age of 11.
Ehmmm, the vast majority of us?
You know, the folks that have no vested interested in the whole "debate" other than "hey, let's not totally fuck up the planet so our grandchildren can still live here"?

In that case you pick up a decent monitor that supports being rotated 90 degrees, not a piece of junk laptop :)
"beyond a reasonable doubt" does not apply in this case, as it is a civil matter, not a criminal one.
Now, judging from some of the research done the whole case is someone either trolling or trying to pull of a rip-off, but semantics matter.

Unicorn Reapers everywhere!
In other news, I'm not sure how to take the "slow down, cowboy" message in the context of this article...
Oh noes, Bioware has infected me with the gays!
