I think I've killed one prostitute in GTA3, and yet I've probably killed thousands of regular old people on the sidewalk. It's amusing to me that I don't hear people crying foul that you can kill people; as if it was somehow acceptable to kill regular people. But prostitutes are a protected treasure!
But I've paid for the cable signal coming into my home, I'm paying for Friends to come in, even if it remains unwatched. It all depends on the agreement I made with the cable company when I agreed to pay for it.
Google owns it's software, and you're not forced to use it. Part of the agreement you made with Google when you install/use it's 'technology' is the appearance of ads.
It seems simple to me. If I don't like the ads on Google enough to not use it, then I don't have to see them. They've set a price on the use of their programs via advertising. The thing is, when I'm using a seach engine to try and find something. If I'm looking for it, and Google helps me find it, I'm happy. I don't care if someone paid to be found where I'm looking, so long as it is what I'm looking for. If Google stops working, I stop using. I'm a customer of Google in a vauge sense. If they start to abuse their respected position, then I go away, along with the possible clicks I may have brought to their advertising partners.
Did anyone seriously believe that Halo 2 would be sold out?
I mean, come on- there were preorders for it more than a year before it came out! Why do people preorder anyways? While a line of 300 people waited for more than two hours to pick up their copy that morning, I walked into an FYE that was at the end of the line in the mall. There was one person in the entire store (the girl behind the counter). She had three cases of Halo 2 behind the counter, and it took less time for me to get it than it took for people to figure out that the crowd at the mall they were walking through was the line for GameStop and had to go back.
Sometimes I forget to set my phone to vibrate after charging it, and I use the plain telephone ring on my phone too. I've had more interesting conversations that start with: 'You cellphone actually rings? How quaint!
while shaking hard enough for the person to feel it
When I got my first cell phone with a vibrate feature, it took me a few days to stop shouting 'Whoa!' (along with what probably look like some crazy dance step) whenever my phone rang in my pocket.
I don't run HDTV, but from what I've seen on the lists, just playback of HDTV is very processor intensive. Plus, playback on OSX has only just recently been optimized enough to give smooth playback on lower end G4's. (Assuming I'm remembering correctly, I don't own any Apple hardware) There's been a lot of Mac Mini frontend talk on the mailing list recently though.
Last I saw on the mailing list, there was lots of hinderance from the lack of a workable and free QT. Hopefully Trolltech will get help things along by releasing with a GPL'd windows verison. There were some tries with some other versions (I think from KDesktop?) but there was more than a few problems. Someone posted a copy of the Trolltech announcement to the list, but I didn't see the rush of people looking to get it working that I was hoping for.
With the new PVR-150's ending up around US$60 (~CDN$100.00?) for hardware capturing, you might find the buy-in easier. For me, the cost of the PVR-250 was worth it.
Dear Baby Bootstrap computer,
You forgot to check the AC box. Congratulations on becoming Un-Classified!
Can't wait 'til my deskmate gets my e-mail about this!

I keep getting assignments constantly from my students with sentances that...
Does anybody know where these habits are coming from?
I've found that leaving the nunnery brings about a large reduction in the number of habits.

Here!
Wait? Is this not roll call? Uh...
How 'bout 260-bit ROT-13?

The didn't quote the subtile of the book: "Their Corporate Whores"
There is nothing funnier than two geeks in a slap fight.
Not even three geeks?
That'd be a subset of phones that extend penis length.

I like that the moderators, in their infinite wisdom, have moderated your post up rather than the grandparent.

Yeah, that comic about the 6 year old with the spikey hair and the old man with a wooden leg is great!

Duh, Because JAXA is powered by Java.
So shouldn't the icon be like a sandcrawler or something?
Wait- Java? Oh!
Someone should make a audio file ringtone that says...
I can hear it now: A very polite British accent that says 'Bring Bring! Terribly sorry! It appears I've forgotten to set my phone to vibrate.'

But they'll give it to you free with a rebate when you buy two $300 phones and activate a two year service! Why spend $4?! :)
Hey! Do you wanna sign my sheet? I only need like, nine more people. We're trying to save the moon's craps!
Thank you so much for saying this- I was starting to think that it was me that was crazy.
Did you not read the article's title? The server must have run out of cats to eat!
