It sounds really strange if they still managed going through this police investigation and violated copyrights like you say.

Regarding these things, it matters a lot on if they're talking "play once" or "no rewind" here. These discs need special players according to the article, and that opens a whole lot of possibilities in how it'll be implemented, and I won't speculate in those. We only know that you can't play a movie twice. However, that doesn't necessarily exclude rewinds and pausing. Who knows, these drives may trigger it when stopping a playing movie, and not pausing? It depends to 100% on the unknown implementation.

I seriously hope that people are not becoming so lazy that they can't even run out to the mailbox to return a movie.

I honestly think that still is a sales argument. That, and that you can watch them anytime you want. I mean, there are millions of people renting movies in regular stores, that aren't "into computers" enough to care for Netflix. To those, this may seem like a nice improvement when the local video store starts pushing them with arguments like "You rent, and it's yours to watch whenever you like, and we won't care for returns!"

You must put yourself in a mind of someone who rents from regular stores though. Obviously, there's a world of options already, but I'm speaking of those who rent DVD's "physically". This is just for them; it's not a new "improved" online service.

When mail space pass about 1 GB, it's simply not an issue for me anymore. We'll probably use mail in a totally different way than now in 30 years anyway. Maybe we won't even use much e-mail then. It's eons in computer technology.

What matters more to me are the other features. Does this service provide free POP3 server access to use your mail client of choice in addition to the webmail? Uptime? Mail server latencies/delays? Attachement sizes? Mail filter customizability? You know... Important stuff!

Yes, I like the X games too, although I wish they had a broader vision with the game than now, with a lot of base/fleet building and economy focus. The open nature of the X games still allows "lonely pirate" role playing, but you can't say they've put too much focus on alternative gaming styles IMHO. For the explorers, there's for example no planets to land on. Planets are purely background scenery, unlike in Elite, which I found awesome to be able to land on planets of your choice, even if they didn't have spaceports, just for fun. :-)

I hear planet interaction may not be coming in X3 either, so I really have my hopes for X3 finally getting Egosoft satisfied with the economy aspect, so they can move on and take their game from being mostly an economy simulator to a true classic in a sequel or expansion.

Egosoft have a much larger team making X3 compared to X2 as well.

I wish there'd be a way for Egosoft to work more closely with LGP in the future so we don't get this huge lag between the ports and Windows releases, in case Egosoft don't want to work on the port(s) themselves.

Uh, I liked it part because it's nowhere near either Star Wars or Star Trek and the common genre of strange aliens in strange worlds. :-p

This guy focus on the story, not effects, and the characters, and the dialogue, and not big ass guns like a Death Star and archetypical evil villains in dark cloaks with covered faces. So in a sense, I feel the Firefly series shows the direct opposite to e.g. Star Wars: Episode I while staying in a sci-fi setting.

So that may also be why you disliked it, but for many who've admitted to themselves that they look at Star Wars 4-6 with passion because of how nostalgy makes childhood memories sweet, and that episode 1-3 was a waste, I think Firefly strikes them as something refreshingly new and different.
