    I disagree with, at least here in Brasil, well Rio de Janeiro, telemarketers call your home and ask for the telephone owner, I know because my telephone is listed in my father's name, but I don't live with him. When you ask what is this about they ask that is personal and if you say that this person does not live there, they have the nerves to ask for the phone. Oh shure I will give them the phone...

    By all means this is not very mature in my book.

    The solution of the euro notes are the diferent sizes, if you wipe out a 1,00 note it will be smaller then the 5,00 so you could not print it into the blanc note.

    Also the diferent sizes makes it easier for blind people to recognize the value of the bills.

    The money paper is easily available in lower value currency, the counterfitter can washout the paint and reprint the paper with a higher value (wash out a $1,00 bill print a $10,00). The Euro money uses diferent sizes for different values to make this impossible.

    Brasilian money also has a plastic money, currently there is two version of the R$10,00 bill in circulation, one of the is plastic.

    This converter are usualy a CCD + LCD + miniCPU combined. And as such require a power supply. This new material would make it even simpler, imagina a simple pair of glasses could do the trick.

    I guess that what he meant is that this technology would create cheaper DVD for rippers and also would annoy normal users in some situations.

    This makes me remember of a brasilian dictionary that came with a copy protection that would erroneosly disable the software from time to time, so people who had bought the soft had to call suport so they would unblock it. The pirate version had a crack that would disable the protection, people with the pirated version could use the software without any glitches.

    I would make the disk react to the rotation of the drive. The media could be not compleatly solid so the rotation after a few plays would blur the data.

    The problem is the timing that the bomb was used. By the time the US bombed japan they were already thinking about surrender, shure they didnt want to sign a "inconditional sureender". But they did want to to talk terms to it. Do you think there was need for bombing, not one city, but two cities?

    In my opinion, and in many more people, there was no need for that. It was just a show of power of the US, a message to the rest of the world, basicly saying the same message that the US sended with Iraq now. If you don't play by my rules we will bomb you till you become ash.

    The only weapon of mass destruction found in Iraq, is oil, it killed thousands of Iraq people and for it many treasures of mankind were destroied. Sure I do think Saddam was a tiran and a dictator, but I do not believe that this war made the Irak people any good. Shure now the US people can enjoy all othe oil....

    Because the only way to compare the codecs would be putting the movies available. A single frame can be misleading also, since many (all?) codecs uses information from other frames to encode the next one usualy some frames can be better encoded then others .

    If there is a problem already, why not save every ones bandwidth and use jpeg. You already have to trust the results of the author, even if he had posted pngs.

    In fact, by many scientists virii aren't alive, because they can only replicate themsemves inside a host cell. The host cell provides the means of replicating the virus, when infected it uses all the resources to produces thousands or millions of the virus before explonding and releasing all those new virii to the outside.

    By the same reasoning a computer virus should not be considered as alive, since they need a external host to replicate themselves. In this case the computer, or being yet more specific a fraction of processing time of the CPU since virus can be on the hard disk, if they are not executed they do not reproduce themselves.

    In fact the matrix does not need to know how anything tastes like, remember that people born and die tasting things inside the matrix. If you tasted chiken with the flavor of beans every time since you borned, you would think that the taste of beans are in fact the taste of chiken. The only problem would arise when people would leave the matrix and taste the "real" taste of the things they are used to eat in there.

    I don't agree with your point. I think there is a diference between the sexy "babe" that stars in a videogame just to show her boob and ask for help with rats and the sexy characters in many action movies or the sexy pop stars. Womem want to be sexy, it empower them, but they don't want to be objects, with no face or depth.

    My point is that nobody is saying that there should not br sexy or provocative womem in games. But there should be good feminine characters. Character that bring something to the storyline, without being the same old stereotype.

    They might not have vast territory, but it is easier to let the americans get in at large and hold them in war far from the bases. Also it is easier to guard a smaller territory.

    They don't have cold winter, but they do have hot as hell summer, and the US it self, hurried this war so it would get over before the Iraq summer.

    If you read the article you would see that the definition is "a planet must be round" and that this restriction would limit the size of a planet to a radius of at least 700km, otherwise you would end up with a potato shaped object.

    I think that the definition proposed by the article is fair, and should be considered.

    I think this "vulnerability" is bad if you cannot disable it or password protect it at least. Linux by default allows you to enter the grub configuration at boot time and boot as a single user, but if you want you can put a password on grub (redhat even allows you to enable this at install time). This is better.

    In my work machine that can be fisicaly accessed by almost anyone, I put on a grub passwd. In my home machine I dont botter, I even make it auto-login in my my non-root acount by default.

    Every security system is as strong as its weak link. When the hacker placed a trojan in an insider machine he has the machine for him. Maybe once the user on the machine typed his password, plus the onother pass and the token, it gave the access rights to the hacker. It could be a luck shot he conviced the right guy, maybe even unknowing, to run the trojan. Once the access is open from that machine, the system will probabl not request any more authorization, so that hacker had it for the day.

    I am a pacifistm, and I know that in the world we live there is time that there is no other solution then be viloent. I am not naive. But do you realy think that if the US army invading Iraq or anywhere else will solve the problem of terrorism.

    All you are going to be doing is validating the image that these people have of an evil america, that wants nothing but the oil. I realy believe that the use of violence in this case would make things worst.

    Just because one is a pacifist, that it mean that he will not fight problems. Pacifism is about fighting problems without violence or wars. And yes I believe it is possible to solve almost all problems without the involvement of a gun or a fight. The only condition is willing to do so, and unfurtunaly the people in this world is yet willing to do so.

    And it already does it, to the best of its capabilities. Why do you think theres not a single word processor capable of reading 100% formated office documents, other then office it self?

    And no MS could not do this now, a simple disk tool or debug would review the key that could decript the files. This kind of restriction has to take place in the hardware, and that is what Palladium is all about, restricting your rights at hardware, giving power to MS, disney, RIAA, and other AAs at the hardware level. And yes, lets not forget. render open source usuless.

    It could, even if you respect the speed limits, a 12 cylinder car can accelerate faster, in fact spending more time in the speed limit. This would make more diference if the speed limit changed a lot in the way. :-)
