    Yeah, it's definitely a worthwhile read. Michener's not the greatest writer ever, but it's a fairly compelling story, and I think you'll appreciate the Apollo 18 what-if scenario. Aside from one or two less-than-interesting subplots, the narrative as a whole is rather relevant to the early space program.

    Follow it up with "The Right Stuff" and "A Man on the Moon" (historical quasi-fiction and nonfiction, respectively) and you'll have that era completely covered in about 1500 pages.

    I seriously doubt that you care what I have to say, but I glanced through your journal, and you had some interesting pieces in there. Basically, while I disagree with your interpretation of the Windows lineage, I do think calling you an idiot and telling you to go fuck yourself was a bit over the top. You're not the zealot I assumed you were upon reading your post.

    Thank you, and good day.

  9. Re:Does this really warrant a 4.0 release? on MySQL 4.0 Released · · Score: -1

    You're an idiot.

    First off, the lineage would look more like this:

    1.0 -> 2.0 -> 3.0 -> 3.1 -> 3.11 -> 95 -> 98 -> 98SE -> ME

    3.5 -> 3.51 -> 4.0 -> 2000 -> XP

    NT 3.5 had absolutely nothing to do with Windows 3.1, so no, there's shouldn't be a branch there: it's an entirely separate tree. One might also argue that there is enough of an evolution to warrant a break between 3.11/95. Additionally, the two trees (finally!) merge with XP, but I'm lazy so I won't attempt an ASCII schematic. In any case, though, the gradual evolution of their naming conventions is present and rather obvious.

    In conclusion, go fuck yourself. Thank you.

    Actually, the inteligent thing to do would be for slashdot to cache a copy of the page the way google does (wget, anyone?) BEFORE the article gets posted then make the cache link available as well. Heck. Make the cache link prominent and add a "original story" link at the bottom of the headline posting.

    Reading those "questions" you offered up, I'm at a bit of a loss to determine which are the bad ones and which are the allegedly good ones. Frankly, both sets are lacking, and by that I mean "god-awful."

    Here's a thought: go in to journalism for a few months -- six months would probably do it -- and then come back, and reconsider what a good interview question actually is. In this case, you'll probably find it's "none of the above".

You're the one who complains about perceived government misappropriation and then spouts off to your representatives, who must then delegate a staffer to draft a hiterto-unimagined form letter in response. Talk about inefficient.

    But hey. I digress. To each his own, but for Christ's sake, man... Computers probably aren't even the primary tool for the given job at that place anyway; I don't see how the OS your word processor runs on will impede your (questionable) capability for abstract thinking and analytical thought.
