  1. Re:does he think he is nostradamus or something? on Xbox 360 Wins Through 2009? · · Score: 1

"The majority of my games are on the PS2; three dozen PS2 games but fewer than a dozen Xbox games. Part of the problem is that Xbox games are rarely exclusive to the Xbox. The only Xbox game I have that isn't available for the PS2 is Halo and I should have gotten the PC version instead."

What's your reasoning here? The XB versions of "non-exclusives" usually offer better graphics and sound, XB Live support, and other advantages. When a game's available for multiple consoles, why not grab the best version?

My left thumb begs for mercy after 15 minutes of Monkey Fight in SMB. In general, anything more intense than Animal Crossing is pretty taxing on the GC.

I'll stick with either XBOX controller, thanks.

I'm glad I grabbed three Audiovox 8600's for my Verizon family plan. It's a great little handset and was the only one from VZW that met my criteria:

    1) No camera
    2) Not "all-digital". Tri-mode phones are still critical for me - good old AMPS hasn't gone away yet.
    3) Speakerphone

The style, great LCD & diminuitive size of the phone are just bonuses.

XBOX2 will almost certainly include an HD-DVD drive & it'll be out way before PS3. That may give HD-DVD even more momentum.

What do you commute by? Stagecoach? Rickshaw? That seems like a long commute for such a small state.

  6. Re:Quake 3 Arena on Which Classic Games Have Aged Well? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Quake III Arena gets better with age. I especially love the "Team Arena" variant. It ran nicely on my old system, but it's really impressive on modern hardware.

Get them both in the "Quake III Gold" edition. The best "twitch" game ever!

Agreed - this is similar to mighty Intel's abandonment of the modem market a few years back. SOHO wireless gear just isn't going to provide enough margins for MS to bother with.

The Cube has some good stuff coming in 2004, but if I had to choose one system, it'd be the XBOX. (Insert obligatory "I own both" disclaimer here)

    [RPG]
KOTOR was just the start. These games look amazing:
    True Fantasy Live
Jade Empire (from makers of KOTOR)
    Sudeki
    Fable

    [Other Good Stuff in 2004]
    Dead or Alive Ultimate
    Kameo
    B.C.
Steel Battalion: Line of Contact (for the mech purist)
    Rallisport Challenge 2

    [FPS]
The OP didn't express an interest in FPS, but the three most anticipated shooters of 2004 are XBOX-exclusives:
    Halo 2
    Doom 3
    Half-Life 2

I'm sure I forgot a few, but that's enough quality material to keep you gaming through the 2004 holiday season!

  9. XBOX Live on Game Sales Up As Madden Leads Charge · · Score: 2, Insightful

I'd like to see how many XBOX owners passed on Madden due to its lack of Live support. I'm sure the folks at Sega (ESPN Football) aren't complaining!

Look at the PGP sig on that message:
    -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----

That'd be the "full retail" version of PGP, as opposed to the freeware version, which gets tagged as "Version: PGPfreeware 7.0.3 for non-commercial use"

  12. Re:Too Late on Pocket PC 2002: Sweaty Palms? · · Score: 2, Insightful
Windows 3.1 made great inroads thanks to the simultaneous availability of Office for Windows. Word and Excel quickly made mincemeat of the flat-footed WordPerfect and 1-2-3, and the rest is history.

Having "Pocket" Office apps running on PocketPC will continue the trend: a "good enough" OS combined with the dominant Office apps equals eventual market domination.
