Despite your sarcastic comments, you only point out the obvious.
Slashdot isn't a solely opensource free software site. Its also a site for geeks who just like cool things in general. The world would really start to suck if you exclude the products of companies who have done bad things in the past. All we would be left with are extremely boring SourceForge projects that are still at the 0.04 beta level of progress. How many of THOSE stories does one need to read?
You must think Slashdot is a Linux site

I think the main problem is you seem to think Slashdot is a Linux site. Its not. Its a site for geeks and techies. That also covers Mac users now with OS X. Do you complain when AIX, Solaris, HP-UX and Tru64 news is posted? Because those are also proprietary operating systems. But you see that doesn't matter, since they're geeky operating systems.
The defining standard for news to be posted on Slashdot is not "Does this promote opensource" but rather "Is this geeky enough or interesting enough for our audience?"
One would have thought that after Slashdot added apple.slashdot.org it would be obvious that there is a sizeable Mac using audience who visits Slashdot.
Did you take into account that the studies on Red Wine were done in European countries where the cost of it is not as much of a factor as it would be for others?
Mac OS X is based on a Mach microkernel with a FreeBSD 3.2 subsystem on top. Its been said enough times already you'd think people would get it right. Anyways Apple recently hired Jordan Hubbard the former FreeBSD release engineer to help them with their Unix development.
I don't mean to sound insensitive or anything but how about a little perspective? I mean they are just cats and dogs. Not people. If I can eat a cow or pig or chicken on a daily basis, how can I get upset over the euthinasia of some stray animals?
Furthermore as this tech advances, why should someone take in a stray when they could have a "perfect pet" designed to their exact specifications?
Could you be ANY dumber?

What the fuck? Do you somehow think the Internet is "broken" right now because we're in a recession? That.NET will fucking fix things? Despite the fact that.NET is just a rehash of past computing concepts from companies all over the frigging industry, please tell me how.NET is going to prevent someone from starting another.com business with an idiotic business plan? Would.NET have saved Enron? Would.NET have prevented pets.com from being started in the first place?
You know, the company needs to be worth a damn first before it will get decent treatment here. So quit complaining that the editors didn't see fit to have their socks knocked off by the launch of.NET.
What is wrong with having "winners or losers" in school? Is that just your way of sensationalising those who get good grades versus those who don't? What's wrong with being able to tell which kids are doing better than the others?
The bulk of their money comes from licensing their engine out to other search engine companies like AOL and Yahoo. Those are their two biggest customers.
Did you *HAVE* to bring your personal politics into this issue?

There are OTHER scientific groups at NASA working on universal translator technology. So relax.
The PowerBook G3 came out in 1998. Thats not long enough to show some wear? I should show you mine then.... (^_^)
Do you have to be so alarmist? Do you really think SUV's are gonna destroy the world? We're moving towards alternative feuls you know.....
What he's saying is its not the governments job to pay for broadband development, but to figure out how to get the private sector to pay for it.
