    what somebody should do is have a set of icons at the top of the alert for example

    1 Small Shield = "person of interest"
    2 Large Shield = "felon/ federal POI"
    3 Rad Hazmat = nuclear type person (should have a number for level 5 = guy glows in the dark)
    4 Bio Hazmat = guys with known infections ( same deal 5 = quarantine the guy )
    5 Chem Hazmat= folks that play with funny chemicals ( 5 = quarantine the guy)
    6 $ symbol = rich persona non grata
    then have the gibbering/details

    If there really is a chance that going to %hospital will cure him then all he would need to do is
    1 check into his local hospital
    2 get secure transport to %hospital IN PROPER HAZMAT
    3 get cured
    4 PROFIT!!

    it seems to me that a lot of the problem it the whole scoot scoot scoot scoot factor so a properly calibrated joystick would fix that (since everything turns to absolute positions)
    but nobody has done a Joystick as a mouse driver (okay it would blow the pacman factor into hyperspace but...) heck your emacs fans could work the airplane pedals in.

    What i would like to see is a resort built in the middle of nowhere that is deliberately NON tech (i would allow battery/fuel cell based lights and thats it).

    No Tech No Net the staff bunker would have the only data/voice line (oh and since the resort would be on a fully comped setup no wallets needed)

    its a bit nasty but you could GPL a program and then only send the source to your paying customers (maybe by including the source on your install media).

    Open Source/ OSI could be something that the OSI could sue over so its just a bit of a jump to sue over a license that claims to be Open Source and implies OSI.

    okay try this for an ingame thing

    1 in in game world is divided into timezones (maps to actual time zones) and the world is always running (so even if you log off the in game clock still runs)
    2 each Character Player or Bot is given a set of auto commands (this can be search for and harvest X in an area or craft item)
    3 certain actions require certain guestures with a mouse (so if you buy an Epic Sword of Icestorm you would need to be able to draw the correct glyph to use it)
    4 miscasting a spell causes a nontrival to massive drain on "mana"
    5 rebuilding "mana" requires "scryion" that may also require you to have a party (so if you are a level 75 FireMage you would need to have a few dozen servants/thralls/serfs
    just to maintain your mana supply) [this would also prevent folks from nuking newbies for jollies]
    6 some folks have a hard limit as to how high they can push magic but those folks would also have a very high "scryion" tolerence (so that level 25 wood elf that hit limit could provide a 4X share of "scryion"
    7 a set of "sleepers" that would appear to very high level players (you buy a level 95 mage hope you like battling Achient Wryms every half hour)

    umm news flash most likely due to folks raising Holy Hell about it they have stated that they will in fact do the 4 year "CompleteCare" on linux systems
    (and i just checked and the option is back up) They said that somebody more or less fat fingered the data base (oops we sowii)

    and then you layer in the "im so stupid i can't provide tech support for a spoon" type folks (i actually in my former job talked to a guy that found that one out)

    sometime the problem is an IQ barrier not a Language barrier.

    OEMs need to have online the following
    1 a way to download the restore dvd(s) (if not in the box)
    2 a detailed tech sheet (make/model and subspecs on all the bits) or maybe just include a copy of Belarc advisor or similar
    3 a simple page with any updates

    what burns me is they could just as well include a REAL REINSTALL media set (okay they might have to use DVD DL platters but..) and then save some hard drive space instead of the normal
    marketing size of the drive - real size of the drive - formatting overhead - diagnostics partition - [redacted]ware - WinStupidity - Windows itself = open space

    i dare an OEM to give stats on how much drive space is actually open after the loadout

    how small can you print and do they want it human readable?? Think 16 bit raw bitmap (600dpi printer and 7.5X10 printable area =54 000 000 bits per page

    heck you could get that in a single ream of paper with some error correction (math works out to 185 and change pages)

    sometimes these questions are like using a flamethrower to search for a needle in a haystack.
    You may not find your answer but most likely you will learn a whole lot about the subject (for example the words used and what issues exist)
    now that you have a smoking pile of ash to deal with then you go to an Epen$ive lawyer type to do the real asking

    or even surgical castration (buh bye monkey) but anyway i would guess that even if in wasted time this guy cost us on average US$4.00 (5 minutes) per person then
    in total we would have a few bodies lying around. I would say that he needs to pray with the Benedictine monks of Santa Domingo de silos for about the next decade (or when Vista is stable and secure on normal hardware whichever is longer)

    the way its been told to me it goes
    1 stick inserted and recognized as "turbo boost" capable
    2 one of the items in the menu is "use to speed up system"
    3 it starts shoving stuff on the stick
    4 the stick fails or you yank the stick out
    5 the system then falls back to normal performance (or lack thereof)

    easy way to get around this a "Standard Title WebHome" this would have

    1 a correct and complete description of the game
    2 a list of currently available patches
    3 a list of currently available addons
    4 the [redacted] EULA: to be put on a separate page suitable for printing

    What i would like to see is more companies that will do things like Steam (if i don't own the game then i should always be able to get a new copy from the publisher)

    as a test some guy decided to put a line deep in his EULA that said something to the effect "Contact me to receive $$$ (some nontrivial amount of money)
    after a couple of years or so somebody finally did contact him on this subject (yes he did pay up)

    This guy should grab a lawyer and have Gateway pay his fees and a large amount of cash so that he can buy a properly working computer (like a Dellbuntu setup)

    1 the store he bought it from should have done an "out of Box DOA" RMAC of the unit
    or
    2 Gateway should have replaced the system (and then done a back channel request to find out why they had to do the switch)

    whats next sneaking a "You agree to give your firstborn daughter to %Company% for use in marketing at the age of 9 years" clause??

    A you land up in an area that went from trivial to interesting (could you last long enough to mask up?)
    B what happens if that nifty tech breaks on you (chunk of wall manages to smash your airpack or you time out because you managed to get trapped)?

    okay shootout time somebody needs to get a pair of real live Amish Farmers and 2 identical boxes one with Windows Vista and one with KUbuntu 7.04 on it

    rate the 2 on
    1 office stuff (write letters print stuff maybe whip up a spreadsheet )
    2 Online stuff (email and surfing)
    3 Multimedia (cds and DVDs)
    4 General Look and Feel
    5 System stuff (getting around the filesystem organizing stuff ect)

    this is a thing called not spider baitng if you always mung addresses when using them in a posting then you won't attract spiders looking for addresses (at least ones simple enough to use a subset of the whichever RFC only)

    Would you swim in shark infested waters with a gash in your leg?? same kind of thing

    me i happen to have a full domain (with 350 gigs of space) so i don't really care if i get spam on that domain (but i don't have a catchall)
