    speaking as a person that is using RR what i get is a PIPE
    1 i don't have any of the software installed ( can't mandriva 2006 is installed)
    2 i haven't logged into the email for months (use gmail)
    3 and since i work for a retailer i have heard that RR will give you an aol acount free if you really want one (this may have only limited DUN access but...)
    the only times my connect has gone down i was back up within 24 hours (one time they had to redo the box on the pole AND CAME OUT ON SUNDAY!!)

    what i think is the best thing about d20 is that if you know the system (or how dice are played out) it makes for great short hand

    Chances of a "Successful Encounter" with that "lawful good" female
    4d20 roll with +5 for each of
    1 clean clothes /body (both true)
    2 good clothes
    3 being able to hold a conversation
    4 epic wallet of cash
    must roll 30 no criticals no saving throw on response
    Now Players what are your chances?? (oh btw you can apply any wis or luck bonuses you have)

    the brackets i see are
    not old enough to stand -- doesn't need a cc card can't express desire for "item"
    to short to see over counter --- doesn't need cc card has to con "daddy'
    just tall enough to see over counter ----- Time to start CHORES (assumes not a dancer or something) put the income on a debitcard/PPCC card
    14-16 ------ serious JOB time paycheck gets dumped into a bank account (can you say "check card??)
    18+ AOM ---- yahknow there is a reason you are getting travel stuff for your birthday
    so in short why don't most kids have a CC card of some config??

    umm with a XPSP1 or straight XP disc the drill is (during either respin or post install) you upgrade using your sp2 ptach file/ CD then install the rest of the patches
    (begin with the payload from Autopatcher.com) so yeh sp1 is EOL since you can very easily update.

    didn't you see that episode of CSI: NY? a bunch of the buildings (pretty much all of them above a certain height (20-30+ floors?)) have a water tower on top of them.
    (it solves the problem of getting Zippo pressure on the top floor)

    the bad things is for situations where you have to do a "forklift" current prices are a lot better for a linux stack and has the advantage that you will only be doing a forklift on your OS software.
    examples:
    1 Mandriva Corporate Club : US$2,500 2000Euro (assumes 25 seats)
    2 Crossover Office Pro : US$69.95 X 25 = US$1748.75 1,375.47Euro

    And if you want you can take a year to migrate off of your older Windows aps (oh and you most likely can do "aero glass" on those Dell Pizza Boxes you have)

    okay lets try this Vista SP2 comes out and is then force downloaded to all machines (that have Vista running) part of SP2 is locking all documents to the system DRM
    (enforced via a 256 bit key based on your hardware hash and COA)

    You chug along and create your documents and have a few documents that would keep you out of Jail (tax records proof of registrations yada)

    The Virus of the month comes screaming down and smokes your system (and just for fun actually blows up your hardrive)

    You then replace your hard drive and reload Vista BUT AT THIS POINT THE HARDWARE HASH OF YOUR SYSTEM HAS CHANGED (new hardrive)
    Your backups are now garbage and btw all of your downloaded media is useless.

    the one thing you want to do is pick up a silver membership if you have hardware that needs nongpl drivers (ati and Nvidia chips) benefits:

    1 feeds a small group of monkeys that help a lot (HI ADAM)
    2 offical club benefits
    3 updates that won't (the monkeys hope) trash your system

    personally anybody (that didn't do a CFS build for the OS) has a few screws loose if thye are not using a seperate machine for a firewall.
    if the failure of the firewall does not kill the connect then you got nothing.

    the problem with bringing up Eight Megs And Continually Swapping is its a text editor that ate a runtime (lisp) for lunch a few years back

    Im certain that with the right metal bits and a huge set of macros (lisp ones) there are a good number of folks that could use Emacs as a Shell (boot directly to EMACS and when you hit C-x C-z the computer shuts down)

    not really since a nonzero part of Unix is owned by folks that:

    1 won't release the code
    2 are currently unavailible (being at an undisclosed location or noncorpeal atm)
    3 can't release the code (due to court order)

    besides what do you think Linux is? hint ( between oh K&R C and the Lions book you can build a SysV type system without using the code (unless required by the M&C))

    This kind of thing is like having a former Zoo Tiger guard your site (former becuase he ate one of his keepers).

    Keep him busy
    Keep him fed
    think very long and hard about some sort of bonus scale for not having a breach (ie an annual bonus of Base+(2*number of no breach months) where base is doubled by having 6-8 months of no breach)

    Hire yes trust 100% not even in TSCOGs dreamworld

    the best way to get actual "tech support" (and not need to start praying to #Higher Power) for your new system

    1 buy the following from a local computer shop
                        A: an oem copy of XP
                        B: a nice large hard drive
                        C: a copy of Ghost (or similar drive imaging util)
                        D: a spindle pack of DL DVDs

    2 setup your system and then download and run Autopatcher and install a real antivirus/ anti [deleted]ware program
    3 take a machette to the software on the computer
    4 install Ghost (or whatever you got)
    5 do a Full BackUp image and make a copy of your disc (and mail it to a friend that lives a good distance from you
    6 repeat 5 once a week or so

    No at this point what IBM (and novell) want is for the business landscape tour to go like "and now we have lindon utah if you look to the left side of the bus you will see the famous 15 mile (and 5 mile deep) Caldera. In the first decade of 2000 a company known as The Sco Group attempted to sue IBM on the basis of "stolen code" as this case after five years failed the result was the crater you see today. Fun Fact the hazmat Zone at the bottom contains several portions of a company known as "Microsoft" whom was roumored to be running the case from the back.

    the cheapest way of being able to prove a copyright is copy the files to a sd card (or mini cd) and put it and a piece of paper with the md5 sum or sha hash in an envelope and then mail it to yourself (the trick is that tampering with the envelope is a FELONY and has a verifiable date stamp).

    of course for the bigger stuff being able to use (r) is very handy

    use the NonFree DVD One and it will
    1 hotswitch according to what arch you are on (32 or 64) after you answer a few prelim questions (where are you and what a language and WHICH 3D DESKTOP YOU WAN TO USE if any) you will get dropped onto a real Live desktop with this neat little icon labeled (install to disk). Now you will at this time be running Mandriva 2007 (with nonfree drivers if needed) so you can play around a bit then make the jump.
    So its boot from DVD and .. (there is no and)

    okay folks just as a bit of info the ONLY way for a normal tech to build a "clean" system (as part of recovering from a borked Windows Install)

    1 purchase a hardrive and an OEM copy of Windows XP SP2 (correct edition for the user)
    2 download and burn copies of AutoPatcher and your favorite toolset (like oh the open CD or Software for starving students) and a Live Linux Cd + whatever drivers you know are needed.
    3 setup the new hardrive and install Windows WITH THE NETWORK CABLE UNPLUGGED
    4 reboot the dozen times or so needed and let it settle
    5 install and run Autopatcher and the driver updates from your CDs
    6 take a machette to the Windows settings (turn off WU and other "freedom restricting" settings)
    7 install a good low resource firewall and antivirus anti{deleted}ware program
    8 reboot as needed and then give thanks to #deit[y,ies] you made it this far
    9 plug the system into the router and "hang ten" for a bit (oh and you can at this time run a driver update if you want)
    10 Profit !!!

    11 speaking of which charge whatever you want to recover the data from the old harddrive you removed in step 3

    Im going to attach my post to this one to maybe do a karma tow on it. My big problems with a miniMySpace

    1 if you depend on it being a walled garden how strong are the walls? for you d20 fans how is a Red Great Wyrm handled if it gets into the garden or a high end Chaotic Evil Wizard or even a kid being a thrall of something nasty

    2 the E-Pimp problem there is a very fine line between modeling sites and Juvi Porn sites

    3 getting a real live hosted domain is way too simple and would work a lot better (and Dadums can setup a "Greater Wall of Pure Writing" to handle the Spam problem)

    Me i like the method of a hosted domain and a good set of gymnatics/dance lessons with a MA twist
