    i hate to have to burst your bubble but The Long Strange trip of TSCOG is not over yet

    and TSCOG has royally hacked off both? judges in question. But yes not even the curently corpreal members of "The Band" will say that this was not a EBW trip.

    umm since step 6 or so is to boot the drives and run a shred util (and besides you would need to preserve the platters of the drive you "borrowed" the rig from)
    this would preserve the warranty status (handwave any stickers).

    destroy the data save the drive

    BTW to the subject poster mine the thread for ways to make sure this does not happen

    i would say at this point asking a forensic grade recovery place to crack the drives is the only way to shred the data or find a high end hacker to do this
    either way its big bucks
    (the drill is you pop the drives in a room/box that would make an OR look worse than a gas station toilet then you mount the platters in a new drive do the wipe and rinse/ repeat)

    well if you had just thought a moment and
    1 put "alt" tags on your pics (this would be the e-version of braille)
    2 put a nice walkway instead of cramming your pages together (standard html links anyone) or put in proper lifts (saneish js or xml link bars)
    you wouldn't have this problem

    oh btw a comment to one of the posters make sure your text entry boxes are sized large enough to fit the input and you should be fine
    (hint if they are writting War and Peace into the box make sure its more than post-it(tm) size)

    it depends but its most likely a situation similar to one of dodging the need to have auto insurance by not having a car.
    If you code a website for MSIE 6.458.999 with Adobe Flash version 11.1345 and Windows media Player 12.16.1768 then you will have problems with FireFox and many other clients (btw scifi channel its supposed to be a WEBSITE not a Flashsite) and this may include blind enabled browsers (that may break if you upgrade too fast)

    (i swear the website for "Now that sane people have taken over the world we will now post the shootings online" group will be viewable in Lynx)

    umm a couple of bits of info
    1 if you buy a Redhat box (maybe enterprise desktop whatever) you have a number to call if you buy several pallets of boxes then most likely you have your own personal "ShadowMan" to call.

    2 littering for any reason is bad (and damages your Witness) SPAM for any reason is bad even if its the Kosher kind.

    3 install an antivirus program (freebie or paid does not matter)
    4 take a machette to the startup programs list

    5 install your broadband connection
    6 connect the system to your router

    what gets me is if you buy as linksys wifi router you will see

    1 a black packet with an orange and white sticker that states "INSTALL ME FIRST"

    2 a sticker on the net ports that states "INSTALL CD FIRST" and if you then run the cd (it actually only installs the norton stuff if you tell it to)
            the last set of things it does is run you past wifi setup (including security

    and my netgear router has the beacon turned off unless you either run the wizard or click the correct bits in the setup (and you can't turn it on unles you do)

    What an incredible bad idea. Internet doesn't kill people, wheres is my freedom if I'm not allowed to use Internet? Why not extend your "wonderful" idea to knifes, regulate the ability to have babies...and control every potentially dangerous aspect of your life? Why are people allowed to walk in the street? They may cause accidents!

    a bit of a suggestion you may want to "invest" in a little browser extension called aspellfox (assumes you use firefox) but anyway in the case of Net access what may need to happen is providers may want to A stick a protection suite on the install disc B put very obvious links to the suite on the default homepage C monitor for obvious signs of a compromised system and use dhcp to redirect dns to a "sandbox" of these systems D start recommending using a router

    I have myself been threatened by a customer who told me he was going to kill me if we didn't immediatly cancel his service without the three month period of notice because the service we provided wasn't what he imagined it would be,

    one of the few things that my job has gotten right is at this point (the death threats/ legal action line) the Company Policy is simple
    1 remove the former customer from the store (forcefully if required)
    2 broadcast a DO NOT SERVE PERSONA NON-GRATA mesage to the district (BB and CC can have those types)
    3 revoke only on the condition that all threats are also revoked (so fat chance they get a refund and if they dumped the stuff on our floor oh well we might fedex them the stuff back after due consideration)

    the big problem with not fighting for "net neutrality" is simple
    the current world is where you have a group of 'drivers" that carry packages from point A to point B. they only care that "the package" fits in their trunk
    it goes in they drive off and they stop at point B and it goes out.

    What the "telcos" want is a detailed manifest of the packages and the right to charge THE SENDING PARTY money to get to you and in some cases prevent the package from getting to you at all (and note this is in addition to what they are charging YOU for "service"

    I could see a world where Slashot Sourceforge and #your favorite distro mirror site have to put a message stating
    "Due to circumstances beyond our current control if you have the following providers (or your provider uses the following providers upstream) we regret to inform you that as of 01/06/2009 you will not have access to this site please follow this link to verify. [list of providers]"

    1 version 1 has DRM encoding the data files to the COA/EULA key
    2 version 2 comes out and "due to the vast numbers of new features "happens to be 5X the cost of version 1 (but if you have version one the upgrade is only 4X the cost)
    3 ALL VERSION 1 KEYS ARE REVOKED AFTER 30DAYS (or can be "unlocked" only by doing the upgrade

    bad thing if version 1 was a US$200 a seat program

    are you absolutely certain that you have not used any GPL libs in your stuff??

    if you have then you will be releasing your complete source code

    (and yes im certain that folks will be running debuggers and hexeditors to find out if you have)

    Again, this doesn't rule out closed source software. Many vendors will provide licensed source code (Microsoft included).

    Please. Try this. As a small school district in India, ask for MS's source code.

    of course to really do this properly you would need to also get the whole complier tool chain (since being able to hit the "make" button and get useable software is 80% of the point)
    ask any bookie about this (if you can find a geek compatible one) and he will laugh in your face
