Seen lots of contractors use them. They can take notes and hold them with one hand, so there is a good market for them. At for myself, I don't have nfl receiver-sized hands and for a regular phone I think 4.5 in size is more than enough
as soon as canonical gained some popularity, bashing them here on slashdot became the cool thing to do. If slackware became the number one distro on distrowatch, some of these same people praising it would drop it like a bad habit. I have no problem compiling binaries; however, I do want to use linux on my desktop and have some good driver support and not compile everything and ubuntu helps achieve this goal. While unity does have its shortcomings, as of 12.10, I find it good to use with unity working like a much improved keyboard launcher, and the web apps integration is really nice. some customization has been removed, and that is sad; however, i think unity has matured and is looking good
Regardless of whether or not you see the big 3 tv news channels as news or entertainment, not airing something because people might do rash things isn't really a good reason for not showing it. If DC's cops went on strike (if that's even possible, like in robocop) then I am sure the minute that that news is disseminated, and crime would increase; however, that is not a good justification for not sharing that news.
Ideas whether offensive or not, are just that, ideas. People can express these ideas, but no one has to listen or even acknowledge them. They cannot help or harm you unless acted upon, which is why there should be no laws against expressing them.
while using new animal and desert names in alphabetical order is a bit obnoxious (they could do without making them alphabetical), at least it is consistent. What microsoft's naming convention is for windows, i'll never understand...
I am just as concerned about the private sector abusing and destroying the open internet as I am about the government censoring and over-regulating it.
This is never a good thing and Apple and Google have both figured this out. This is a result of Steve Ballmer not understanding the definition of a PC vs a tablet. When I use a PC I want a real OS, not some hybrid of windows phone 7 and windows 7. This wouldn't be an issue if on a tablet all operations could be performed within the metro ui and in a PC operation could be performed within the normal windows UI. Sadly this half and half approach will just lead to problems. Even the windows server 2012 ui has metro in it. I predict enterprises skipping windows 8.
I noticed the same thing when I moved into the area. I lived in Atlanta and moderate storms here seem like they take down power as long as super severe storms did there. The reliability is a major issue and it seems to be worse in areas served by Pepco distribution vs Allegany Power distribution. It appears that Pepco doesn't have the funds or doesn't want to invest in their infrastructure. The city of gaithersburg isn't without blame because they have some ridiculous restrictions on tree and branch trimmings.
I love my alma mater and enjoyed my time there; however, that doesn't take away from the fact that at least one third to one half of the classes I could have done without. All this making well rounded students bullshit is a ploy to get more cash out of you.
It is not troubling to facebook management and other members of the facebook team who sold equity for the IPO, but rather for the underwriters and small investors.
They are called off-shore holding companies, and plenty of them pay no tax in the US. This is just a legal way for an individual to do the same, and why shouldn't you be allowed to do so if you wish. He pays an exit tax on the value of his stock holdings when he ex-patriated (sp?). Furthermore the US is one of the few countries that taxes its citizen's living aboard. It's not rational to pay taxes when you are not taking advantage of the services your country offers. Furthermore like plenty have said, opening a bank account outside the US when you are a US citizen is a major pain in the ass due to plenty of patriot act and IRS red tape and general bullshit. The guy is just being smart.
T-Mobile is refarming their HSPA+ spectrum to the 1900mhz band will help a lot for the first point. At least t-mobile and at&t will be on the same page when it comes to 3g frequency bands.
1. Network technology and frequency, every carrier as the their own freq. bands and versions of tech. So switching isn't possible in a lot of cases.
T-Mobile has great pre-paid plans if you live in an urban area.
2. Carrier, 2 year contracts to lock you in. Part of the issue is the "discounted" phones but the MAIN issue is the Carrier's WON'T give a discount on service if you buy your phone outright so you gain nothing by doing it.
This has been working great for me, and makes me wonder why t-mobile has such a bad rap. Their $30/month for unlimited data/unlimited text/100 minutes, is great for people like me who rarely use the phone to talk (and skype and other voip solutions exist if you need more talk time). If you live in an urban area I highly recommend it.

maybe a sacrificial satellite like goldeneye?
Imagine if the apple store had its own tasers... they wouldn't have replaceable batteries either

Can't go without some battlefield 3 or netflix, but that's what dual boot is for.
Second that. In America you are guilty until proven innocent the second you are suspected of a crime like this
happy to see this after the yakjuxw...
I will only consider it a sign of life if they reject the 1-click patent in its entirety.

this is slashdot... as soon as any linux distro reaches a large distribution, it is the next micro$oft...

The backflow of mobile OS ideas getting pulled into normal desktop/laptop OSes is killing modern computing. Win8 is a prime example.
