I am with Telewest actually. The service has been really good, and my IP address has only changed once since I signed up. That makes connecting to home from work via SSH very easy.
In the UK, it's not unusual for people to have Internet connections at home that are just as fast as those at work. I have 512mbps broadband at home and am considering upgrading to 1mbps, which will be 4 times faster than I have at work.
If I wanted to download a lot of music, I'd SSH to a machine at home and do it there where it's faster. I guess it's different in the US though where lots of companies have T3 connections.
I'd also have though that a lot of large organisations (e.g. Fortune 1000 companies) would already have "downloading music/video" policies in place, and the smaller companies would be the ones with people doing things like this.
Anyway, if you need to spend time doing stuff like that, you're job must not be interesting enough - you employer should tackle that problem first!
People's responsibility to respect other internet users and not run arbitrary code on their machine which could slow down other people's networks or cause other havoc is much greater than a commercial organisation's responsibilty to make public announcements.
Perhaps computer vendors should be more reponsible, and not sell insecure systems to the public when a large portion of the public don't want to have to care about security.
Your local Volvo dealer doesn't sell cars that are remarkably easy to break into or hijack. Your local PC World shouldn't sell computers like that either.
Note: This post is aimed at people who sell complete systems, not at any particular software manufacturer. A lot of the default insecurities can be disabled if vendors bother their ass.
Along with some colleagues, I'd like to be getting the option of free orange juice, in addition to the free coffee that we get, to promote a healthier lifestyle. I think that free Coca Cola would be a bit bad for me. I'd probably drink far too much of it!
I left shcool when I was 16 and went into a Software Engineering BSc Honours degree at University. In the 3rd year of my 5 year course I did a placement with a local software company, and after graduating last May, I am working with them full-time. I live with my fiancee in Edinburgh, where she's at University studying Medicine. I have my own car too (an MG ZR+). Life can work out pretty well going the normal Univesity stdent route too:-)
I've been using a Tyan motherboard for the past 13 months and have had no such problems. I like their products, and hope that they've not used those dodgy capacitors on other models.
This is Microsoft software. You don't own it. You're licensed to use it. If you don't have the documentation, or more specifically the license certificate (quite often on the cover of the manual), then you loose your right to use it.
If you don't approve of licensing like that, choose another product or manufacturer.
Except that here, you just keep smoking, looking for the buzz that never comes, until you get emphyzema from huffing nicotine-free smoke hoping to get the nonexistent rush.
Ah well, that will be more space on the planet for those of us who aren't trying to kill ourselves.
I don't notice what they've done with KDE in their distro. I've been using Gnome since they got Gnome 2. My girlfriend continued using KDE when we upgraded the PC in the livingroom to RedHat 8.0 and the only thing she noticed that was different was lack of MP3 support. Konqueror, KMail and KWord still worked so she was happy.
Perhaps someone could enlighten me about what nesty thing RedHat did?
It's more like the government stating that a car manufacturer should use standard car radio connectors from Pioneer, rather than their own proprietary one. It's not a component that's required for the car to function properly, and nobody really cares because it works just as well anyway.

Oops! I wish!

wap.google.com in a pub quiz rocks!
If you're capable of reading all of the parent of my post and actually understanding it, you'd notice that I was replying to this line in particular:
Complain, make it better, do something (and get free Coca Cola as mandatory).
Where the author talks of having free Coca Cola. My reply was very relevant to that.
Over-use of a word (e.g. "Gay") is bad grammar. Your post doesn't make you look very intelligent.

Yeah... Homework*1.5.
It's also good for jaavaaguru, or any other fairly unique name.
He says "I wish you could still see..."
Well, you can. Try this.
Unfortunately, the graphics are missing.

Phoenix with XFT doesn't like it. Is it possibly XFT related? Netscape 7.01 without XFT doesn't have a problem.

"News for Nerds".
Hmmm... this isn't exactly news to us, is it?
The Tooth Fairy is known for leaving money in exchange...
Viruses are known for leaving megabytes of junk in Exchange.
If this were possible, you could for instance, charge for the right to download binaries.
You could charge for the bandwidth. Just like Sun claimed that you can order a free Solaris CD on x86 from their website.

Has anyone got a copy of the latest Oxford English Dictionary handy?
The content of the KMail window in this screenshot is probably also pad publicity for a desktop environment that's trying not to be too bloated.
'treatment' ?

Presumably you meant "Win/Win"
Everyone knows it's not just "Win" or "Windows".
It's MICROS~1 WINDOWS.
I got that from WordNet. I don't have a real dictionary handy.
Your preferred reference...
