Since when is making a PC quiet costly? Get some quite intake/exhaust fans for like $5 or $10 a piece, get a Seagate Barracuda IV to replace your current hard drive, and get a large, high CFM, low noise fan for your proc. You could even get a few potentiometers and put them in serries with your case fans, so you can adjust their speed and thus their noise level.
None, plain and simple. Unless there is special software needed to achieve connectivity, like a login client or something, no software should be included with an internet connection. We all have some kind of web browser, or a CD to install one, and once we hanve a browser it is a trivial task to find a newsreader or email client. Who would want to install some ISPs crappy software when you can just download the latest, non-branded copy?
Ok, wtf! First of all, it's really easy to change file type associations. If you can't, then maybe you just don't CARE what program opens your documents. Secondly, the author compares the system of associating files with programs on Windows to that of the one on Macs. I must say, it is damn near IMPOSSIBLE to change the program that opens certain file on a Mac. You need a program like ResEdit and more than basic knowledge of Macs.
Pausing. Obviously, a new idea, and one worthy of patenting. I think I'm going to patent the play button.
This is exactly what the patent system was created for, new ideas. I agree, most of the patent (Amazon's 1 Click shopping comes to mind) infringment stories we hear about are stupid, but pausing live TV is an invention worthy of a patent.
Ever conisder the possibility that someone stole it in, gasp, the Real World (TM)? Or maybe someone generated a random number and they happened to get yours? Remember, there were credit card fraud problems long before the eCommerce. Plus, what's the big deal anyway? All you have to do is call up your credit card company and have them reverse the fraudlent charges, that's one of the Wonders of Credit Cards.
Um.....the point of cryptography is to secure data......if you put some kind of back door in it it defeats the entire purpose of encrypting something. What are they trying to accomplish?
What basis would they have for a lawsuit? The hackers haven't done anything illegal.....they've simply reverse enginered a product they bought. Am I missing something? (yes, I did read the article.)
Goddamnit! Stop the windows bashing! First of all, don't run ME damnit! Win98 SE is so much more stable and fast. Second of all, stop bashing without reasons! Give me some proof for why you "hate M$!" Jesus, if you're gonna bash windows at least point out something that sucks without saying "Bi11 Gatez sux and M$ sux and I'm not buying any of theyre cr@p".
Jesus, listen to the damn article before you post. He actually seems to know what he's talking about in the interview. He says the units will cost $500 or less each, and will contain a small amount of writable flash memory. They will function as thin clients when connected to the school's wireless network, and the sudents won't be allowed to load any programs on them. When they're at home, they'll dialup to access the network.
It never says anything about not being able to duplicate the CD, it just says you can't rip it. I'm almost 100% positive that you can copy the CD, if your burner supports RAW mode and you use something like CloneCD.

uh....return key...paragraphs
I'd love to read your comment but my eyes won't let me.
The return key is your friend.
Woohoo, DivX on HDTV. I just love seeing the MPEG artifacts and pixelation.
Since when are Macs made in the USA?
My thoughts exactly, this isn't the government's place. I'm suprised to see that most of the posters agree with this proposed law.
You can always put the little LCD in a project box from Radio Shack and mount it where ever you want to.

This and other projects do what you're talking about but most are not in wide use.
perlbox.org is now redirecting to "www.camelotnaturals.com" for me. Is anyone else having this problem?

The site's now down.

Yet again slashdot manages to make a big deal out of NOTHING! First rule of journalism...verify the facts before you write an article. Jeez!
Heh, well put.

I think they're wondering how often companies that are going under don't tell their customers about selling the info and a way to opt out.

I don't know why CmdrTaco is so opposed to registration.....you don't even have to put in real info! Jesus.
How is this redundant?
