I have three digits (not that it matters) and I am strongly opposed to systemd as it exists today. With some actual engineering work, it could be good. But today, it is not.
Yeah, I will stop visiting the site if the option to use the proper (Classic) interface is removed. I've left other sites over redesigns that weren't as bad as the currently proposed one.
I don't remember the exact date that I signed up for an account here, but I do remember I had been using the site for a bit when registration became available.
I knew this day was coming, and I guess I'm glad that it's taken as long as it has. But it doesn't have to happen; timothy, you can make this stop. I understand your bosses want this to be the new default, but removing the old one *WILL* drive away community. And without community, this site is nothing.
No kidding. All the local channels in my area have gone HD (mostly 1080p) and even our local PBS broadcasts are in 720p here and look pretty damn good because most of the recent programming was shot in HD. Raw display resolution means squat if the source material sucks. Matter of fact, I actually started watching some of their nature series because the extra detail compared to NTSC brings them to life. You really feel like can just reach in there and pet the cuddly cougar cub.
I'm not much into organized sports myself, but a friend of mine is a hockey fan (I would say "rabid hockey fan", but that's generally assumed, I think) and he stopped by a couple days after we installed our 56" DLP. I put on the local hockey game in 1080p, and he just sat there stunned for about an hour. "Oh my GOD! I can see the puck!" he said.
Your local channels have gone HD, but they have absolutely not gone 1080p. There is nothing in the ATSC spec that allows for 1080p. I don't doubt that your TV is 1080p, but there is no television channel that broadcasts 1080p. Zip, zilch, zero.
(And I don't dispute that HD looks awesome, because it does. Just making sure that the terminology matches the reality.)
I am trying to inform you, not mislead you. I didn't intend to come off as rude with the "falsehood" comment, I was talking about the statement, not the person making it. No need to 'fie'...
Neither 480i nor 480p is HD. 480i is allowed under ATSC just as it was under NTSC, but ATSC also adds 720p and 1080i, which are the only HD resolutions available over-the-air via ATSC. The transition does not remove support for 480i. The 2009 transition does not mandate HD, only digital (ATSC).
The 17 Feb 2009 transition has ***NOTHING*** to do with HD. I know you probably just didn't know any better, but please stop spreading the falsehood that it does. All the transition requires that all full-power over-the-air television stations turn off their NTSC transmitters and use ATSC transmitters instead. That is all. It has nothing to do with cable, satellite, HD, or anything else. In most markets, the transition effectively only applies to CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, PBS, and CW. And it only requires digital transmission -- it is absolutely silent on the issue of HD.
Long answer, I use a rule of 6: in general, the age you will be when you leave Xth grade is X+6. High school in the US is usually 9th-12th grade. These years are also referred to as freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
How can the fluid ounce be defined as "the volume occupied by one ounce of water at STP"? Regardless, British pints are bigger because their fluid ounces are bigger. A pint is always 16oz, it's just a matter of whose ounces you use...
Amen to the "reformat and reinstall" thing. I think it's probably better to tell someone "Sorry, I can't help you" than "Sorry, I formatted your computer" -- even if you do ask first if it's okay.
The problem is actually bad enough that I have had someone ask me if they should "reboot" their computer. By reboot, they meant reformat and reinstall... and I thought it was somewhat of a GOOD thing when they had said they only rebooted once or twice a month!
I'm sitting at one now. It's not mine, but I use it occasionally. I have only a few minor complaints with it. The first one, if you plan to keep Windows, it comes with a LOT of junk preinstalled. Also, sometimes when I'm typing my hand will accidentally hit the touchpad, moving the cursor around. Then again, I use a desktop far more often than a laptop, so I'm probably just not used to laptops.
On the whole, I think you'll be pretty pleased with it. Pretty fast, 'plenty' of RAM (this one has 512MB), and a nice looking display. It is a pretty heavy laptop though.
Amen -- we just canceled our landline here at the apartment -- it's been SO much more peaceful now that the phone never rings. With both my and my roommate's cell phones having a silent mode, I never hear a phone ring -- ever! The peace and quiet is *much* more valuable than the money we saved by disconnecting that line.
On a Verizon Wireless phone, if you dial *228, then wait for the prompt, choose "upgrade your roaming capabilities". And it's even a free call. My phone used to have the same problems, but not after the upgrade.
How about the search for Mersenne primes: prime numbers that take the form (2^n)-1. More information about them is available on that website, naturally.
Perhaps you can help by searching for factors of some obscenely large numbers.

Thanks Rob. I'll keep it brief, it's all been said. This came as a bit of a surprise, but I guess everything must end at one point or another.
So long!

Agreed -- go Hokies! :)
I notice you said '(used to)' but just in case, I thought I'd point out that this got fixed in 1.0.3. Hurray!

Short answer, about 14-18.
In AIM when you block someone, you appear offline to that person. Dunno if ICQ works the same way.
The parent post is probably intending to say 100+ MPH rather than km/hr. Hopefully the runaway truck wouldn't be going THAT fast...

Your link is to 0.9 -- however, 0.9.1 came out earlier this week.
The correct link is here: Firefox 0.9.1 (zip)
Indeed, I further refute you!

... a reply from the future? Crazy!

Google allows you to search for more than one word. Adding the word 'database' to your search surely couldn't hurt.

>THIRTEEN thousands?
:P
TWELVE thousands?
*shrug*
It would make sense that the date format is YY-MM-DD.
Not sure why anyone would voluntarily pick that format, but...
...so I guess that makes me part of that 1% that has liked it longer than you? ;)
