I am scared to think how terrible a remote server connection sending touchscreen data back and forth would be. I will be having nightmares for the next week. Or I will continue to use Linux servers.
Look guys, the Project Manager for the CIA/NSA/FBI/NRO/DOD program to buy intelligence from Stratfor has come onto Slashdot! Please, don't audit me Bro!
I wonder when Stratfor is going to be prosecuted for engaging in corporate espionage? Never, because most Fortune 500 companies and government intelligence agencies rely on this private corporation to know what is going on in the world. Can we say "too big to fail?"
You could also look at it like this. If your students can crack their VM environment and run wild, hacking away, changing grades, and setting up Paypal fraud websites, then you have taught them very well and they will go on to a long and prosperous career, hopefully working for the good guys.
By your logic, the internet and phone calls would not be protected under the 1st Amendment, because the Constitution does not explicitly say that freedom of speech applies to those mediums, which were not even a pipe dream in the 1700s. The concept of an Air Force was just barely making it into crazy theories at the time.
As far as the Marines go, they fall under the Department of the Navy. Historically, Marines have always been on Navy vessels to provide security. You know how in all the old time movies about Naval warfare, there are those guys shooting muskets at the opposing boat? Those are Marines, and the United States Marine Corps was formed in 1775 to protect American ships during the Revolutionary War, well before the Constitution was signed.
The Air Force was formed with The National Security Act of 1947. A law, passed by Congress and approved by the President. The Supreme Court also did not move to overturn the law as unconstitutional.
This March, these meteorologists predicted 1 foot of snow or more throughout the DC area overnight. When I woke up, there was 3 inches of snow on the ground. If that is considered superior, then the Borg would probably refuse to assimilate you because it would be a step backwards.
Meteorologists cannot predict the weather very well WITH the satellite in orbit. So now, all of a sudden, with no satellite, they are going to predict the weather even more poorly?
Perhaps they should invest in a weather rock instead.

So you want my guns to be "smart" and place a small computer of some sort in there. And in the event that that small computer has been rendered ineffective, my gun will no longer fire. Is this computer going to have Bluetooth or Wi-Fi? Is the government going to force manufacturers to install a backdoor so the government can decide when I can and cannot fire my weapon? What if my gun (and/or me) are electrocuted? What if there is an EMP? What if my house is struck by lightening and the electricity goes into my gun safe, rendering all of my guns useless? What if....
What experience does Sparticus789 actually have with biology?
I am not a biologist by any means. But I do have a strong enough understanding of science to understand that in reality, nothing will emerge from this lake that is hazardous to humans. Whatever lifeforms present in the lake will most likely be prokaryotic cells which do not have the capability of interacting the modern eukaryotic cells, since they have never had the chance to evolve into anything which has the potential to be damaging.
And as far as I am concerned, if someone is stupid enough to believe a Modded "Funny" comment on/. to be the absolute truth, then they should probably be banned from reproducing. It is not my job to "inform" the world about how non-dangerous any of this is. If people want to be educated, they can educate themselves. If they want to be stupid, they have that right too.
But if the districts were determined by a logical algorithm, how could the politicians Gerrymander the elections? Politicians need job security too!!!/sarcasm

When Dice purchased Slashdot?
Give users the option to use your terrible Metro interface or have a standard Start menu. What's so hard about that?
I see what you did there

They can only laugh if they look up from auditing my taxes to see if I can be thrown in jail.

Actually, the NOAA does have Uniformed and commissioned officers, so the argument could be made that they are a pseudo-military organization.

Actual numbers are more like 44% of the spending by world governments on the military is spent by the United States.

From your own source:
"In 2009, the Obama administration approved a $535 million loan guarantee that helped the company build a new factory in Fremont, Calif."
Your attempt at spin away from blame is sad. Especially when the above statement is in the 4th paragraph.
And how many satellites could have been built with the $535 MILLION that the Obama Administration gave to Solyndra?

I consider myself a "god" in the computer realm and I re-use code on a daily basis.
