I just loaded Mandrake 8.2 a couple weeks ago. During the install, it prompted for the type of intended use of the machine and gave 8-10 options that could be selected by radio buttons. The choices ranged from Workstation to Server with things like Scientific Workstation, Development Workstation, Documentation.... Very simple to decide, really.
I suppose it could seem like an "over dramatization" if you haven't been in the job or haven't been in the job long. While reading the article, I found I was agreeing with almost everything written except, maybe, the MBTI bit. The part I liked most was one of the last comments about knowing you've done a good job when nobody knows you you did anything at all.
I spent a weekend replacing the HDs in two Banyan servers (upgrading five 1.2 gig drives in each, with 9.1s in a RAID 5 array) then restoring and testing all services and data. I walked in Monday morning and asked the users if everything was OK. They said "everything's fine, why?" "No reason." I said and walked away with a smile.
Like the admin in the interview, I also had a piece of furniture give way from underneath a server but I was in the room at the time and was able to stop its rapid decent to oblivion and eased it to the floor. It stayed on the floor until we got a proper rack unit.
So, there is "drama" but, I wouldn't call what was written an "over dramatization".
It was only based on this slashdot article qouting a tom's hardware article. Guess I should have checked with you first to see if this was correct first, sorry.
Since most HD makers have seriously reduced their warranties, will this affect the warranties on these consumer devices? Currently, most HD only have a 1 yr warranty. Will this mean a PVR is only good for that long?
That's the way it started with me. Back in the early 80s, I couldn't go near one of the dumb terminals at work, the high pitch it was emitting was intolerable.
Ten years later, the pitch became a constant companion. One of the indicators of a hearing disorder is hyperacuity, a sensitivity to sounds. It is something you can get used to, but it still sucks. Get a hearing test done. Mention your sensitivity to high pitch sounds. Protect yourself, if possible.
Being Canadian and a smartass, I appreciate a good joke. I find that the funniest things are those that are closer to reality. In this light, I am copying an earlier post related to the exchange rate.
The current exchange rate of $10,000.00 CDN is $6,376.33 USD courtesy of this link.
But it smells fowl. I'm not being picky about your choice of words, it's just the picture this conjured up. A large mess of unprocessed poultry. Now that's foul fowl!

they would buy advertising on BearShare, LimeWire, Morpheus and the rest.
This is where the most benefit will be realized, isn't it?

Gone Fission
A crew member with proper training can use the device to complete a medical examination of the patient in 2 minutes
Hopefully this will not be the "proper training" which lets people believe that a newly trained MCSE should have "root" access.
Shhhh... They'll hear you!
You are so right.
This has been going on for years.
See this reference to a 1996 article to explain just why this has become so predictable.
What struck me was that it was just one CD.
When I DL'd the 8.2 release, it was 3 CDs.
It was also a breeze to install.
I'm curious as to what you get/don't get on that one 9.0 CD
Maybe they will take an AOL CD. I think I have one around here somewhere...
"Telocity (DirecTVDSL) seems to be a better ISP than most
Thisseems to negate that option.
