People have been complaining about new MS OS's releases since windows 95. People just don't like change it's that simple. WTF is so complicated about the new start menu? It's as easy as the old start menu and it should not take you more then 20 minutes to figure out the whole thing(metro, charm bar) if you have been using a computer for the past 5 - 20 years. Why are people saying the metro looks kiddy looking and it does not belong in the corporate business world? does the gui have to look old, bland, shitty looking to meet corporate standards? I guess that's why corporations want employees wearing those damn awful, uncomfortable, penguin suits.

You can always use classical shell which is free and has the old 98, xp, 7 start menu to choose from if you feel metro is too complicated for you. I mentioned before windows 8 is actually faster to install, update, and setup than windows 7. Works nice on my dual screen no issues. The only thing I bitch about is the pricing for a single license and that's it.

People can always stay with windows 7 or even try out linux but be warned that all linux distro's are complicated to deal with if you don't have the right hardware. The open source drivers for ati radeon 6570 does not work for me i get horrible graphical glitches, crashes unless i use nomodeset and install the ati proprietary drivers but in recovery mode which I doubt regular joe knows how to do it.

The windows 8 desktop(charm bar) and metro UI is better than windows 7, xfce, lxde, cinnamon, mate, kde(confusing mess). Unity is pretty damn good as well. Gnome 3 still needs a lot of work. Until we see software applications with all dependencies in .deb & .rpm available, stable, reliable, easy for the average joe to install and use I don't think linux will overtake windows. With windows 8 i just download whatever applications I need and save them on my external storage just in case I need to redo my machine(hard drive go bust) and my internet is out and I had this happen to me a couple of times. Unless the whole u.s goes wi-fi free or prices go below $30 with more competition like most of Eastern Europe Linux has no chance.

I don't understand why people find the metro so complex it's actually better and simple compared to the old start menu styles. I find the linux lxde, xfce, mate, cinnamon all look shitty, buggy, look like they belong in the 1990's and time consuming compared to the unity or metro. Kde looks more modern than the other linux DE's but the start menu navigation is pretty confusing.

It's probably same situation with wayland which the project and documentation seems to be disorganized just. It seems to me a lot of linux developers are stuck in the 80's and 90's mindset no need to create new technologies just stick with what works even if it does not take advantage of newer hardware technologies, this is what killed unix. This is why Microsoft is #1 at home and business they change and improve their software they always moved forward not backwards. Metro and Ribbon are both revolutionary and it's sad ppl don't see that.

And why do linux zealots with their mental illness think what canonical is doing will destroy the whole linux foundation? There will always be tons of different linux distros out there. I personally like ubuntu(disabled amazon) and unity and it looks modern compared to the rest of the 1990's lxde, xfce, mate, etc.... Gaming under windows on the same machine have no gpu fan issue. Gonna download and try team fortress 2 on windows 8 see if it makes my fan go bonkers. Ubuntu 12.10 does run sluggish at times probably because my cpu runs at 800mhz and rarely jumps to 2700mhz only when running gaming, but the majority of time the performance is on par with windows 7 and 8. If i set my cpu in the bios to run at it's full speed at 2700mhz or with turbo at 3200mhz than ubuntu 12.10 runs smooth consistently.
