Why even use google apps in the first place? These apps are so damn primitive. LibreOffice and even OpenOffice are better alternatives. There is so much free software for both linux and windows desktops that put's these google and microsoft apps to shame. Business wants E-mail for their users either pay for the gmail or create gmail accounts for each of their employees for free, fuck company domain name. Or purchase exchange but it's expensive and not sure about linux alternatives.
Cloud will never get bigger because the majority of the country still uses those ripoff, crappy, internet services such as TWC and comcast, both complete shit. This is why we need the government(fiber wire all over) to layout the internet backbone and not private businesses.
Is this president and his administration complete fucking idiots? How many more screw ups will this administration cause. The nuclear waste will not be dumped openly in a fucking whole. The waste is already in separate containers and these will go into larger thick sealed containers which are neatly placed inside. It's not like nyc sanitation department dumping the garbage shit all over the ground. We need a place for now to store these until we find another use for these nuclear rods or to build another storage site, yes it's safe for a few centuries. But instead, this community organizer cancels this project and we leave the nuclear waste lying around all over the u.s, how nice, i guess he really want's to be a Russian leaving nuclear material lying around for anybody to take, or ex-kgb selling parts on the black market.
No wonder this country has become such a shithole, considering parts of this country looks like a third world shithole, detroit anybody. STOP ELECTING THESE FUCKING UNQUALIFIED IDIOTS INTO HOUSE, SENATE, AND EXECUTIVE BRANCH!!
I ran mint 13 kde on a crappy netbook atom 1.3ghz(pentium with hyper-threading), 2gb ram, intel gma500(i compiled and ran intel's newest version), with full effects using xrender and it ran faster than windows 7 especially when watching hulu or youtube videos. Windows 7 with full effects on ran like shit, kde smooth. I also ran mint 13 with xfce clean install on the same netbook and i just don't see the difference between this one and the kde version in performance, both run fast.
But, I'm still a fan of unity, gnome3, and metroUI(windows). In kde, I just create a third taskbar to use as a dock. I ran netflix successfully on wine, someone found a way to do and just followed their instructions, I hope they find a way to run adobe shockwave on web browsers for linux. We also need freaking games, cod4 on wine too slow using ubuntu.
if apple hired 4k(or more) people in manufacturing paying them $14($28 payroll tax) it would cost them about $215 million a year without health insurance, and probably best in Texas where living cost's are low compared to California and NYC. Why are corporations looking down on manufacturing like it's something beneath them. Apple is now worth about $500billion(not sure how much in cash or in stocks). A lot of these corporations are just sitting on billions for no apparent reason.
Why does the linux communities have to act like a bunch of bullies. You expect a company who spend millions of dollars and years to develop a game or gaming engine to release the source code to you just like that, get real. If you are talented to add features or modify a game engine than maybe you are talented enough to create your own game engine from scratch instead of expecting others to give one to you for free. And nobody is forcing you to install a closed sourced or DRM based program. Linux desktop will never overtake windows because of this attitude from linux community towards closed proprietary programs. Windows may not be free but at least it has the all games and applications that I need. I really don't give a crap if the software is closed, open, drm, proprietary, free, $$, if i need it I will buy it.
Well except a lot of developers are not putting any effort in utilizing the console's hardware to it's full potential. The majority of games are first developed on pc's than ported to consoles with little optimization. On the pc, supporting multiple hardware should be no issue since the video hardware sits behind directx api for windows, i don't see gaming for other OS's. Pc games pretty much look like console games but with higher resolution and faster fps, texture improvement but not that noticeable. Linux kernel is customizable and they could easily work with it to create their own custom gaming distro(not a desktop OS) using opengl with a new custom api for sound and controls like directx has. Why waste money on a new console when they can easily turn any pc(even old hardware) into a gaming console. But if sony, ms, and nintendo want to lose money on their consoles than so be it. Well, nintendo actually made money from wii(gamecube 1.5) console. Sony lost tons on ps3.
Wii u uses ddr3 1600 ram. They could have used regular desktop ram for the console and as much as 8gb or even 16gb for storing game data from the slow blu ray type drive.
Nintendo, Sega, Sony, really need to create their own(or join forces) Linux gaming Distro to turn any pc into a gaming console to run their games on instead of wasting billions to produce a gaming console. Shit, nintendo could have done this and also just release that tablet controller gimmick for the linux distro, this would have saved nintendo money. Or just develop on windows.
I can understand why we had gaming consoles in the 80's, and 90's, but now there is no point in doing so since we have very powerful pc's that can pretty much run pretty much anything. If Sony goes for amd cpu/gpu A10 system and they actually lose money on the console they are a bunch of freaking morons. Consoles are obsolete.
Such bitching and whining from developers. No wonder some games look and play like crap these days on both pc and console from 3rd party some just don't care anymore. Look at the 80's and early 90's and why they had to work with and they pulled it off, now, a lot of dev's cry because their shitty unoptimized bloated engine that barely runs on an nvidia 300+ cuda cores or ati radeon 2000 streaming processors on the pc can't run on the wii u. Even today with all these processor streams and cuda cores the only thing these dev's could do is run games that don't even come close to realism at 60 fps@1080p.
So when the U.S government hacks into foreign government servers and causes damage it's patriotic but a u.s citizen it's criminal. What about government monitoring every aspect of the web including your emails(email and mail same shit) without a court warrant. Anyway, the judge violated parts of the Title 28 of the United States Code, The judge by law cannot take a case where his own family member is involved in which it might affect his decision making he/she no longer impartial, and it showed. The hacker was held for that long with no bond or speedy trial, decision made by the judge, it's illegal. If this is the fault of the patriot act or ndaa for holding him without trial we are all fucking screwed. Unfortunately, when high officials abuse human rights they get fired and never see jail time. This whole government is acting like a fucking monarchy, like they are all kings or fucking special. Government will never work because people are corrupt by nature this is why we should build machines with impartial behavior built in their cpu to rule us all.
That's because saudi arabia is run by a bunch of degenerate monarchy retards hiding behind Islam to oppress women and it was the same issue with europe from medieval times to early 20th century, even here in the U.S until women's rights were past in the 20th century. Look at Islamic golden age or during the ottomon empire where women were not treated like they are treated in Saudi Arabia, they actually had jobs, businesses, high positions in government, were not accompanied by man, etc... I got a feeling the majority of men in Saudi Arabia who want women oppressed are homosexuals. Same with all these crazy conservative christians in U.S who can't seem to stay away from a women's vagina always trying to control her body, why is that? they are probably homo's, a lot of them were caught either getting their dicks sucked or vice versa. Even the ancient greeks who oppressed women were homo's and child molestors(were having sex with young boys). To hate a women this much you have to be a homo.
The wii u is pretty damn powerful if you compare it to the ps3 and 360. What nintendo needs is to bring back the old 1980's, 1990's, games but as remakes with updated graphics and more levels. Rush n attack and bionic commando remakes for the ps3 and 360 were damn good. I would like to see games like castlevania, megaman, super mario allstars, wonderboy in monsterland, shinobi, alex in miracle world, ghouls n ghosts, golden ax, etc.... remakes in 2d and 3d. But, castlevania definitely in 2d since it's 3d counterparts failed miserably.
We need quality games not more games trying to push the graphics boundaries. nes vs turbographics, the turbo which had better graphics failed because the lack of games and that they were just weird and not fun compared to the nes. Atari Jaguar, 3do both sucked even if they were top notched systems in those days. We need better games.
Does anybody still use the old 95/xp/7/kde/xfce/lxde type menu systems to access your programs? For windows 7 I used rocketdock on main monitor(dual monitor) at the top hidden with all the applications I needed and i did same thing on kubuntu but used a regular kde taskbar instead of cairo dock. Windows 8, i just pinned some applications on taskbar and the rest rearranged as tiles in groups in metroUI. Unity, have all apps that I need on the unity dock. I just don't see the start menu or start button relevant anymore, why spend time on navigating through menu system(kde nightmare) when it's easier by using docks or metro.
Gnome is missing the minimize button on the right corner which is a pain but that's it. Kde, I hate it when I drag a file, folder, icon to the second monitor it asks me if I want to move it here or copy it here, ridiculous. For linux i will be sticking with ubuntu unity and for other distros gnome.
Government controls the economy through taxation and regulations. If the government got rid of business double taxation(((7hr is really 14 since company pays an extra 7hr))) it would probably bring back some manufacturing. Or better yet, just stop taxing business altogether since they provide the jobs and just tax personal income. Roads are built from gas sales tax, public schools through property taxes. The federal government and states really need to get rid of pension plans for government workers and just put them on SS like the rest of us. Stop with all this overseas strategic military plans the Soviet Union collapsed in the 1990's, Germans are fine, Japanese are fine, even the Chinese, we don't need the u.s to start causing issues in Europe especially what happened between Georgia and Russia. Cut military spending and stop feeding the military industrial complex for crying out loud. If housing, apartment rentals, gas, electricity, water, were priced as low as they were in the 1990's people would not have to ask for higher salaries, but instead, today, we get ridiculous high prices and low income especially here in NYC(queens, brooklyn, staten island, bronx), manhattan is a special case.
I wouldn't mind making 20k-30k if living costs were down but now I need 55k-60k(also save some money) just to live in brooklyn or queens, 1 bedroom apt jump from $1100 -> $1400 no utilities included while 2 bedroom jumped from $1400 -> $1800 no utilities included, shitty basements $1100. And of course people are inflating home prices at ridiculous levels again so we might have another housing bubble in 5 - 10 years again. a shitty home build for $25k now goes for $1 million.
But I like metroui, unity, and gnome 3(to some degree) which all three are about fast access to files and applications. The problem with windows 7 and kde start menu is that you waste your time navigating trying to find what you are looking for. Even in windows 7 i never used the menu i just pinned some apps on my taskbar and the rest on my rocketdock. in kde(dual monitor), i would just create a third taskbar with applications pinned on it and the bar placed at the top hidden. With windows 8 I could do the same, pin programs to taskbar or just re-arrange the metroui tiles the way I want for fast access. Hit windows key, fast scroll, find the icon and click. Unity is basically a windows taskbar or dock put on the side. But, the old gnome2 was actually a lot easier to navigate through than win7 and kde.
The kde menu system is a freaking confusing mess and it takes time to know where things are placed. But, it's pretty to look at same with windows 7. I think it's time for the old start button menu to die off already.
I hope Microsoft has 30 or 60 day trial version of windows 8 so I can try it out before purchasing it. I evaluated the enterprise evaluation version and i really did not see any improvement over the windows 7 unless the final version is a vast improvement over it. After promotions is over the OS pricing will jump to regular windows 7 pricing $200+ for a single license, this is what I hate about MS the most. Don't understand why they can't list it at least $60 for full pro single license, not the upgrade. I also ran the evaluation on a netbook with 2gb ram and it ran horribly slow, mint and ubuntu on the same machine pretty fast even with the sucky gma500 open source drivers.
MS 30% cut for every metro app sold is pretty damn ridiculous. But no one is forcing you to buy windows 8 or develop for the Metro Store, well unless MS keeps attacking linux trying to destroy it. But I do like how MS offers visual studio express for free.
REVERSE ENGINEERING any mechanical, electronic, software, biological, chemical, etc.... is perfectly legal, even if you circumvent the DRM. IT'S IN THE LAW for crying out loud. If the sell the product you reversed engineered and is exactly the same as the original you will face legal consequences, but, if your product is totally different from the original and functions the same or better than it's perfectly legal. This is why you don't see the unix owner novell going after linux even though it functions like unix but internally constructed differently.
What we have today is corporate power trying to take over this country and it's people. U.S has the balls to force countries to extradite the hackers to the u.s to face trial but when it comes to u.s government creating viruses to circumvent another countries security to steal or cause harm it's perfectly legal.
Governments never work if you don't have check's and balances between those in government and the people of the country otherwise history repeats itself and you will not have representatives but rulers. Tsa pat downs, no privacy, scanners twice the power of x-rays, ndaa, patriot act, etc... these methods are in par with the old Soviet and Romanian communist systems.
This is what happens when you have sociopath's running this country or any country for that matter. Look at the hundreds of thousands of laws the u.s has on the books just to regulate every aspect of our lives. Disorderly conduct? There were cases where cops were beating some individuals up and because they tried to protect themselves they were charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, how nice, Vladamir Putin probably gets a hard on just reading about shit like this in our country. If the government is not for the people or by the people then it should not exist, the end. Every person has the right to life and pursuit of happiness on this land and if an authority person tries to beat you or shame you, you have the right to protect yourself.
Since TSA is not going anywhere the best thing people can do is not to fly anymore, boycott the airlines. For business, internet is cheap and there should be no problems in communicating from NY to CA through the net, same with communicating with family members through out the U.S. Use the train or bus to travel through out this country, or just drive.
People will always murder, rape, torture, etc.. regardless of religion, simply because they are on a power trip, it's all about feeding their huge ego, like Stalin,Hitler, Mao, Castro, etc... . I know a lot of Christians who don't literally believe word for word what is in the bible, it's all metaphors and parables. Dictatorships, communism, theocracies, all about power and control over the masses, nothing more.
The "innocence of muslims" cheesy movie was available 3 month's on youtube before the september 11, 2012 benghazi attacks. Politicians #1 skill is lying. Yes, Obama said that this tragedy invoked terror, but, he did not clearly say that this was a pre-planned organized attack by a known terrorist militant group in regards to the sept 11, anniversary, which it was, for the past 2 weeks he and his administration insisted that the attacks were incited by that movie while those at DOD were saying otherwise.
Not really, I have installed mint and ubuntu on several desktops and netbooks and they run just fine, people have no issue. The problem might be during the install where regular joe might try to manual configure the partitions on the hard drive themselves instead of using the auto, and also open source drivers from ati not working for a particular card correctly which then you have to know how to invoke the nomodeset and install recent fglrx. But once the OS is setup by someone who knows what they are doing the user will run it without issue. The only time you have to compile a program is when there is a new release of the software and you are using debian based distros like ubuntu and mint. But otherwise the previous version of the program is available in repositories.
I had tons of issues with windows 7 when it came to drivers. I have stated on slashdot so many times how shitty drivers from amd and microsoft own kept on freezing my system because it was running in ide compatibility mode in bios and not in sata(ahci) mode. But with linux on the same hardware I had no issues. Then there was the time when the ati drivers for my radeon 6850 stopped working and removing and reinstalling did not fix it because there was still some residue left over somewhere on the c drive and registry so I reinstalled the whole OS to save time. Windows 7 might be robust by itself but you can say the same thing with linux distros it just that drivers and software are the main culprits to a systems freezing or crashing.
As much as I hate Microsoft business practices and shady patent claims against linux the EU is looking at ways to get money in any way they can even if it includes extortion which this is the case. Come on already, this web browser war has ended and firefox, opera, and chrome have won. Windows needs IE so people can download the other web browsers you fucking European trash twits. U.S should move all their troops out of Europe and back home, the cold war ended in early 1990's, soviet union collapsed on it's own. If EU does not like windows method maybe they should use Linux or BSD.
I have used unity and kde and both look nice and run fast with or without opengl hardware rendering. You will have distro's running xorg and than you will have distros like ubuntu running wayland so it's no biggie you still have tons of distros and windows managers available to you. It seems to me that for some linux users if a distro takes a different path it will somehow affect all distros, which is not true. Ubuntu and Fedora are two different operating systems.
Get rid of the l2 and l3 cache and beef up the l1 cache or just improve upon it. L2 cache was created to fill in for the speed gab between the cpu and ram. Now ram is running about 2.6ghz(multiple data transfers 1 clock) with hypertransport or quickpath buses.
hum, shouldn't we be more concerned about who gets into the house and senate? I mean the legislative branch is the place where laws are proposed and legislated. The u.s president's powers are very limited. You want change, stop putting corporate puppet whores in house and senate. Medicare/Medicade $793 billion, SS $700 billion, Total defense spending 2012 is $1.4 trillion, Net Interest? $197 billion, Other Mandatory? $416 billion, Discretionary $660 billion. I mean it freaking adds up to $3,456 Trillion. WTF. The u.s government spending is out of control. If health insurance covered 80%-90% for $100-$150 a month I would be happy to get it, but I used to pay over $600 a month which i canceled it and by next year it's going to be higher than this. The so called obamacare(False, cant create bills) or more like the republican corporate care(democrat public option left out) is to phase out medicare in ten 10 years completely which is okay except that you will be paying freaking higher premiums than today and probably bankrupt a lot of people since everything like housing, rent, gas, electricity, water, going up while salaries are stagnant.
I used windows 8 preview and basically same performance wise as windows 7, but I haven't tried out the RTM so now I really can't judge it. If you don't want to switch back and forth between the metroUI just install the start menu button for free. Only time will tell if windows 8 will be any useful on the Desktop. Vista was not that bad and a lot more stable than windows xp but you did have to disable some services to speed things up.
Corporations always take shortcuts just to save a few bucks from polluting the earth instead of cleaning up after themselves to being lazy to hire extra people to add subtitles to their streaming movies. Movies in Netflix do come and go do to licensing but I always see the same movies coming back and same with tv shows. Netflix has the balls to allow the service on linux devices like Roku or mobile OS's like Chrome OS which is running the linux kernel, but yet they piss on the Linux desktop. But i have to admit that the netflix streaming is a lot better than broadcast tv and cable(unless your a sports and news fan), even hulu and crackle are still better than regular tv.
