I would say that Narconews are activists. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't be protected. Just not like broadcast and print (because they are expanded for press because of LEGITIMATE REASONS to stay in business against corporations) and more like regular citizens First Amendment Rights.

I would first like to respond that I respect activists... in a sense that they are promoting what they believe in, and that is altruistic (that causes change in the world, and gives me something to talk about, BRAVO :P). Go ahead, change the world. Be my guest. It is also your priveledge to cover my windshield wipers with fliers. I think that is fine. Print as you please. Whether you can claim "higher journalistic protection" for what you say is another matter.

IMHO the Narconews people are not journalists. They are activists. They are printing for a very tangible, expected outcome of their work. They are observing and placing in OPINION. With a name like Narconews talking about changing drug regulation, you lose your objectivity.

True journalists don't seek a specific outcome.
Seeking an outcome makes you an activist or trade magazine. For example, Cat Fancy Magazine should not necessarily be afforded the higher journalist protections that a non-specific daily newspaper should. Although, this approach might be more appropriate on a story by story basis.

Journalism is about seeking the truth. Journalists should not be concerned about the outcome other than reporting the outcome. In other words, what makes a journalist? Being fair, and not seeking a specific outcome.

In other words, Narconews shouldn't be considered journalists and protected at "the higher level" if their ultimate goal is to publicly smoke "the big fatty." Its not about the groundswell of public support or whether they are right or wrong.

It just doen't ring true to being a journalist. Its similar to saying that carrying a fire extinguisher in your car makes you a firefighter.

The AP reporters are the same that give you the news on television and in the paper. It is a service that almost all contribute to. When they see something on the air that they want to know about, they call us and talk to our reporters and ask us to contribute information, we do the same in return. Newspapers are especially AP heavy, as they cover national and local news... unlike the dilineation of broadcast.

AP does assign individual reporters for events, but that is pretty much it. They are the effective "this thingee happened here" guys.

Really, when someone tells me that generically my work is inadequate because the TV is a load of crap, I get upset. After all, television people only work insane hours for little pay so that you can see something happening WHEN IT IS HAPPENING.
Newspaper people make phone calls about events. Broadcasters go to hell and back to bring it to you. Show you the pain. Show you the players and scams.

Simply put, the mediums are not the same.

Then again, newspapers can't show full motion of a plane hitting a building, the wailing of a mother who lost their child in an errant bombing run, the touchdowns that win superbowls, and most importantly...

The television can let you see the persons face when they are obviously LYING. So that the quote doesn't get taken out of context. Like they do DAILY in ALL newspapers.

I recheck the AP all the time. They get it as wrong just as much as everyone else does from time to time.

I would suggest getting your news from several sources. Ones that you think are the most unbiased. The internet isn't well known for its objectivity... but there are some really good ones out there.

Usually, the best cars to drive are the ones where they are about to change the fundamental design (usually after three years or car generations) a few years after have worked out all of the major complaints brought in, and before they change the design again.

So what does this have to do with video consoles? Well, as I see it, Nintendo has gone through several generations of workign the bugs out in hardware and gameplay, and that in itself is its benefit and reason to buy.

There are at least 3 generations of Nintendo in major US release, even after they made coin ops.

America didn't even start as a democracy. It was a colony. It was a king's property. It rebelled to stop the king and become a democracy. Many Americans tried to remove slavery the moment America became a democracy. It took a Civil War and over one hundred years of fighting (stealing and releasing slaves by activists) to stop slavery in America. People owned slaves. The Government did not own slaves.

Please get your American History from American sources. I'll agree to get my Chinese History from Chinese sources to be fair. I am afraid that wherever you read that the Natives were forced to work on railrods might also be full of other facts and propaganda that you might accept as truth. That history is not correct. All history books from government sources (USA included) speak about their gov't speriority, and seem to speak of all the bad moments with other cultures. I am positive that my Chinese history is totally wrong. I am not Chinese. But I will not lecture you on Chinese history.

I understand your argument. The Chinese have the right to pursue their own future. All people do, as long as you don't go decide to attack anyone.

Please keep in mind that the Chinese and the rest of the world influence the US as well. We are pushing hard. So are the Chinese. They push right back. That is the nature of the world. But Americans do not feel that they intentionally doing it, we sometimes don't mean to cause the opinions and backlash that we cause. We are just a very proud people. Proud was a word the Chinese students that I have met use to describe the Chinese people as well.

I know that the Chinese see us as a younger culture. We are passionate about our beliefs and affect great change, and to us that is good. Sometimes like kids, we don't see the future so well. It is part of being an American. We move fast. We think fast. Often times that is not the best way to be. There are advantages to being young in spirit too though.

I see the truths of all people. I don't see the truths of all governments. I am sure that even if I met most people in China that they would be happy and friendly. I just think that they need better say in the future. This is not about morals. I believe that all people try to be the most moral.

After all... China is probably the most safe country in the known world to walk the streets on. That is a good thing, I think. Americans don't hate China. Some Americans (me) hate the idea of flying spy planes over China's coast when we are not at war, and unlike Russia, China has never said that they want to attack us. I would like all of our influences to be diplomatic. Besides, I'd rather visit China with my children some day, instead of sending them off to war because we couldn't get out of each others business.

However, I just don't like the idea that China shoots missiles over Taiwan when they hold democratic elections. That is as bad as the influences you speak to about the USA.

So we are both at fault. You'll never follow George Washington, I'll never follow Mao Tse Tung. Now lets start all over again.

Send some Chinese schoolkids over for a week to take pictures and see museums, and we'll send some kids over to do the same. We should do that as much as possible. And by the time they grow up, China and America might see each other as people instead of Communists and Capitalists.
