    I am getting really really sick of reading about how this or that probe is not going to work despite costing millions of taxpayers dollars.

    Exactly who do they employ to build these things ? Trained monkeys seem to have a better chance of getting a working probe into orbit or landing on mars than NASA.

    NASA should take a look at its recruitment process and from now on, only the top Rocket Scientists, Physicists, Engeneers and Astrologers should be allowed in.

    If the next NASA project fails, then the whole organization should be canned and private enterprise can take up the slack.

    It doesn't really matter. The coffee will not kill you before you have had at least a chance to reproduce. Hence from a strictly biological perspective it is not 'bad' for you.


    In fact, it is only bad for you if you think a few extra years of alzheimer's and incontinece in your twilight years is something to look forward to. Personally, I'd rather continue drinking coffee and die a couple of years early. Not a big deal.

    I remember looking at the binaries of scott adams games and some of the sierra games (mystery house etc) on the Apple ][ using the disassembler binary viewer just to find out what the vocabulary was. I was aged about 12 or 13 at the time.


    My sister and I were reminiscing about playing mystery house and the very real sense of fear we had whilst playing it. Quite funny looking back on it since the graphics were pretty useless line drawings. I guess it shows that you can make a good game with limited cpu resources.

    What pretentious bullshit. Software is NOT art. It can be closely compared to bricklaying, or cabinet making, it is a CRAFT.

    Try expressing an emotion in C++. It cannot be done. Please think before repeating these banal opinions that software is art. It just isn't. Deal with it, and if you want to be an artist, learn to paint.

    Software engineering is there for one reason only. To perform a business function for the minimal amount of outlay. It is unlike bridge building in so many ways. Most software is only live for a couple of years at the most. This kind of VB quick hack does not need heavy duty architecture

    Conversely where this approach is required (saftey critical systems) Formal Methods such as Z and VDM are often applied to prove the correctness of the specs etc and therefore guarantee bug free code.

    As ever it is Horses for Courses. Don't lump all software developers together.

    No you are confused. Miller's theory of chunking was to do with the fact that it is easier to remember sequences than random selections. e.g. If I tell you my 11-digit telephone number, you probably need to write it down, but you will remember your own number.


    I cannot remember who the 7 items or less guy was, but that was to do with the number of things one could remember at any given time in short-term memory.

    I mean, every single thing in a computer is on some sort of timer or another. From RAM to the Disk Drive, to the sound card, the modem and the CPU itself, everything is clocked.

    This must be a misprint, or some kind of 'troll' article like the ones you sometimes see at hardocp.
