My city, Hermosa Beach, just rolled out free hi-speed wifi to about 30% of it's residents. Holding a high gain (16db) antenna connected to my lap-top standing in the backyard I was able to get close to 1Mb up/down. I'm about a half mile from the access point but without line of sight. I will be connecting the weatherproof antenna/bridge combo to a pole and installing it on the roof this weekend, which should help a bit. If all goes well, I am looking forward to a day with no ISP bills!
<PLUG> However, I must say...Speakeasy is far and away the best ISP I have ever encountered. They encourage you to run mp3/game servers and even will bill your neighbors for you should you choose to share your internet connection via a wireless router. So if you are looking for a new ISP, sign up here and give me a free month. Thanks!;-). </PLUG>
Uranium is a finite resource which will run out way before oil
That's a common misnomer amongst environmentalists. We will never run out of Uranium just as we will never run out of oil. Econ 101. As the supply diminishes the cost will eventually get to the point it's economically beneficial to use other sources...eventually even renewable sources. We did not move out of the Stone Age for lack of stone, just as we won't move out of the oil age for lack of oil.
You're missing the point. Using your logic, one can argue that Australia's restriction on the importation of cocaine is "pointless," as Australian drug retailers and Australia itself is missing out on revenue.
As elected officials they have made a choice that whatever the economic cost this ban causes, does not outweigh the societal cost of the proliferation of violent games. I don't agree...it's easy enough to recognize that 95%+ of the socialization process of children is, or at least should be, from the parents.
If you were experienced with the use of.net you might now that the conversion from the first version of vs.net to vs.net 2003 was quite painless. I've converted several large projects and can only think of only one minor code and one minor.config file changes that I had to make. Anyway, source code projects are usually not like word documents in which they must be used by multiple versions of an editor. The files are still text files and you're free to use any text editor your heart desires.
However, the biggest reason the projects must be converted is that VS.NET 2003 uses the.NET 1.1 framework while the beta 2005 uses the beta 2.0 framework. And this is a good thing. The 2.0 framework instroduces new class libraries, interfaces and the specific compilers introduce new programming structs, syntax, etc. ASP.NET introduces a slew of new features, including controls that produce valid standardized xhtml markup, whereas the previous versions of the controls did not. The project files contain the metadata as far as what version of the framework the project is, so they must be converted in order to use the new compilers and framework libraaries.

Bellagio Room deal for Poker Players

Geeks and Poker?

· Score: 2, Informative
For you poker players that make an occasional Vegas trip, you may be interested in a special that Bellagio offers. If you spend at least 6 hours in the poker room ( monitored by a stamped card given to you by the poker room host ), you can get a room for $200/night on the weekends and $129/night on the weekdays. This may not seem like much of a special, but considering the fact that the typical rate at Bellagio reaches $400-$500 on the weekends, I certainly consider it a great deal...especially when splitting it with a friend. That's where I'll be this weekend!
Poker is very popular online. Most of the online card rooms have 3rd parties audit there random # generators. Poker is played against other players, not the house.

That, and the nice standardized ( XHTML 1.0 Transitional ) markup helps...greatly reducing the amount of data served. A good decision that will show easy returns in hardware cost. Finally, even/. has begun to investigate.
People had vast game libraries after owning their Playstations for so long. Buying a Playstation 2 meant they could continue playing their entire game library...
So, what the hell happened to their original Playstations? Not buying a PS2 ALSO meant they could continue playing their entire game library. I'm not buying it...the backwards compatibility of the PS2 was minimal to it's success at best. The 2 YEAR headstart on the XBox was the greatest factor.
Most of these posts illustrate the mindset of the anti-MS crowd perfectly.
Just for a second, imagine the situation was reversed.
- MS makes and sells the most popular music hardware device. - This device only works w/ non-DRMed mp3s and WMDRMed music files. - You can only get the latter from MS-Tunes online store. - MS refuses to license the WMDRMed format to other competing online music stores. - MS refuses to support any other competing DRMed format on their music player, because they have 70% market share for online DRMed music and they want to keep their stranglehold in this market while increasing their market share in their 30% music device as well as establish WMA as the codec of choice.
You gotta look past prior perceptions here and call a spade a spade. The past transgressions of MS was about software ( 1 and 0's ) competing w/ software and the "evils" of integrating a browser w/ an OS. The situation is reversed and Apple finds itself acting no better....and I'd even argue worse as Apple has always tried to hold onto both the hardware and software market...foolish, imho.
That being said, I believe in a free market economy and Apple is certainly free to make this decision...I just don't believe it to be the right decision for them or the consumer. If past is any indicator....one company, one music player, one codec, one online store is not what is best for the consumer and will not win out in the long run.

Well, of course. Most of Hermosa Beach's revunue is due to it's popular strip of bars on the pier.
