Can't believe I had to wade to the last post (so far) on the thread to see someone mention this. The trolls really aren't doing their job properly (great, now my journal will get troll-flooded)
Don't bother with the import mod chimps. Somehow, they've convinced themselves that eight pounds of stickers are worth 100 HP. They haven't figured out that the only high powered 4 cylinder machines that are worth a shit have half as many wheels as the base Civic. Or, like you say, a banging turbo from the factory.
Of course, I blame the American drag race scene. The real problem is that Americans are big fans of straight line acceleration. Cars that can stop and handle aren't big sellers over here:( The rice brigade takes cars that *can* handle and stop, screw that all up, stick on a fart pipe, and call it a day.
What is acceptable? 7:35? 7:45? Let's say 7:45. Well, now you get used to sauntering into the office at 7:44. And then you come in at 7:46 one day. 'But boss, I'm only one minute late'.
At what point is the one minute demarcation acceptable? Furthermore, having things written in stone is to your benefit. It should prevent some manager from being capricious and calling your 7:31 'late' and the hot secretary's 7:31 'on time'.
Yeah, I just changed the.sig the other day. I'm sure you'll find his stuff all over the p2p networks, especially now.
And hey, since the singer and the songwriter are both dead, you don't have to feel guilty about 'the artist' not getting his money. (I've got a greatest hits CD)
In essence, the FCC, part of the executive branch, is being given equal status to Congress. To override the FCC, Congress has to pass a new law (which the President has threatened to veto). Congress would then have to override that veto.... requiring a supermajority to regain *their own lawmaking power*.
Which is as it should be. The FCC is an agent of the President. It is the executive branch in this particular domain. The congress wants to override the executive branch. The president doesn't want this. Therefor, it takes a supermajority to override the president. Pretty much like every other situation where the congress wants to override the executive.
Pretty much since 1783, the executive and legislative branches have been co-equal. Huh, imagine that.
It's not his website. Hasn't been for a long time. It belongs to VA. Further, I'm free to complain. You sound much like the lemmings who shout 'if you don't like America, get out.' Quiet obesiance has always effected much change.
Time's have changed Our kids are getting worse They won't obey their parents They just want to fart and curse Should we blame the government? Or blame society? Or should we blame the images on TV? No. Blame Canada Blame Canada With all their beady little eyes And flapping heads so full of lies Blame Canada Blame Canada We need to form a full assault It's Canada's fault Don't blame me For my son Stan He saw the darn cartoon And now he's off to join the Klan And my boy Eric once Had my picture on his shelf But now when I see him he tells me to f**k myself!
Well? Blame Canada Blame Canada It seems that everything's gone wrong Since Canada came along
Blame Canada Blame Canada They're not even a real country anyway
My son could have been a doctor or a lawyer, rich and true Instead he burned up like a piggy on a barbecue Should we blame the atches? Should we blame the fire? Or the doctors who allowed him to expire? Heck No Blame Canada Blame Canada With all their hockey hullaballu And that bitch Anne Murray too Blame Canada Shame on Canada For the smut we must stop The trash we must smash Laughter and fun must all be undone We must blame them and cause a fuss Before somebody thinks of blaming us!
Okay Rob, we can't have/. meta stories about broken moderation, bitch slapping, and abusive editors, but we can have meta stories about selling t-shirts? Way to keep it real. You da man.
Now stop calling us fascist or we'll stop letting you buy our beer!
Your beer is only slightly less sucky than Budmilloors (an American favorite). Real beer comes from the other side of the Atlantic. Or out of my fermenters.
Human civilization USES economics to achieve its own goals.
Ermmm, no. Economics is the study of how humans manage scarce resources. Further, civilizations do not have goals; people do. The motivation of the vast majority of people hasn't been described much better than 'the Invisible Hand'.
This is the primary reason I do not have any 'premium' cable channels. My tv has a guide function, a good tuner, etc. Why should I put some garbage box on it that will hobble my TV? And pay for the privilege? No thanks.
Here I am, feeding the troll... Err... Leftwing whiner
We are not supposed to base analyses of communism on failed models such as the Soviet model. Why then do you think it is any better to base an attack on a semi-failed model of US capitalism? Over the past 200 years, there have been many well-regarded economic analyses that show that only a few markets lead to a single player. Even in those cases, it is unlikely to last except when there is government support. If there is government support (and the US gov't buying tons of, say, MS operating systems IS support) you aren't talking about capitalism. You are talking of a failed attempt at capitalism.
Buy a used car. A used car has already done most of its damage to the environment, just by being built. The paltry difference in mileage will not make up for the damage done by the creation of another car. Get something like... Oh, there's really nothing good in the US. The old Honda HF's were good. Some of the VW diesels used to get better than 40 mpg. The cost is much less, they are proven quantities, easier to find mechanics for, etc.
Sure, the hybrids may be chic in certain circles, but if you are honest about saving the environment, AND insist on owning a car (instead of mass and/or public transit and bicycles) you will do far more good by preventing another car from being made.

I make toys for good boys and girls the world over.
Bullshit. The slave-labor elves you have trapped in your non-union sweatshop do the work. Not only that, but you take jobs away from American elves.
Bastard.

Speakin' of fart pipes, nature calls...
No. No meta topics or anything even smelling like it was close to something in the vicinity of the ballpark of a meta topic.
I must say that the Seth Fakelstein troll was funnily on point this time.
Originality is overrated. Just look at Black & White.
Gameplay matters. Just look at B&W.

What would you say is acceptable?
In what manner? If the business is open during certain hours, it doesn't matter whether you are salaried or hourly, you better be there.
Probably not relevant in the original posters comment (being a developer, he's probably not going to meet too many others in his work day).

If the only thing you are concerned with is alcohol content, may I suggest you try hard liquor?

An unsigned socialist troll. How nice. Sorry, all out of Purina Troll Chow for you today.

I think he might be wanting that back...
Why? He doesn't carry anything useful in there. He could be reprogrammed with a small computer to say things like:
I'm hungry.
I'd like a cup of tea.
Look at the tits on my girlfriend.
I'm gonna make you my bitch.
A very simple computer at that.

Yes, because releases for the sake of a release is a good thing.
downloadable edition of mandrake is 100% free software.
That's nice. Debian is 100% Free software. And they don't have an annual begging campaign to get there.
(-1 troll, -1 flamebait, +1 insightful (Debian fan mods only))
I don't pay personally, but shell out a few bucks from my company. Anyway, nothing personal. You said 'tell me if I'm wrong':)
You're wrong. For a single user for a single computer, you can get updates for free from RH.
