Here's a hint. Energy source is limited. E=MV If we double the speed we quadruple the energy required. If we double the particles we only need to double the energy.
I think the reason why we never reach light speed in space travel is simple. Wan't to try design a collision detection for craft running AT light speed? Another point that we are right now traveling at light speed, yes the earth is currently running at light speed from a view point of a light that is emitted from earth. I don't think that the relativistic mass or atomization will be problems, because its always compared to what. [But i'm pretty sure that collisions at that speed are fatal.]

The same reason why sun won't release all their methods how to break SPEC benchmarks, with compiler optimizations so that they could get much higher spec performance without affecting most software. The hardware they sell is partially sold according to spec and all those optimizations put in their compiler if transfered to gcc it would be mitigated to others compilers. So basicly, they are keeping their competitive advantages. And not just donating everyone else the same benefits. Others have different compiler optimizations so they don't release their inhouse optimizations to all public, because that would mean they give up their advantage while competitors keep theirs in closet. Consider that top spot in spec is between itanium and power so if IBM releases their spec optimizations in gcc, intels itanium compilers would suddenly reverse engineer the things and get few point more, and that would be disadvantage for power.

Intel process that is used with P4:s currently does 50Ghz transistors in similar metrics. And they probably have double that in their labs, wating to be perfected for mass manufacturing in coming years.
" Many cell towers are equiped with UPSs to work for a couple hours or so, but hardly enough to cover an outage like what we've seen. We've concentrated on building these things cheap. I can't say I blame them -- who expects a two-day-long outage? Even so, many of the backups didn't even work. You could argue that they should have generators for backup, solar panels, gerbil-wheels, or what not, but its our capitalist nature to try and build these things as cheaply as possible. "
Sure the cost issue is huge, especially when u compare to some other operators, like those who operate in Finland, where cell calls costs ~15 cents/min and there is no specific reseaving call fee. And is very parcely populated area. So when cellphone companies get less revenues per capita the infrastructure is still great.
A fully fledged chaingun, and good armoring. Manufacturing a single such, beast could costs a LOT less than training a basic soldier. Pilots are needed because some one is neede to take responsibility for the vehicle while its running. Autopilot does fine, for trains, etc... But for everyone seems to need human in cockpit, for what? Taking responcibility if something goes wrong, and doing right thing if something unexpected happens. Thats the real thing, these things cannot replace real human being for taking responsibility on something important, handling the unexpected case.
Well I'll have to say that processor speed is not everything, nor amount of RAM. My tweaked 33mhz 486 with 8MB of ram ran circles around my friends 66mhz 486's.

One experience of doom was choppy. Another had other slowdowns. Duke that supposed to need 66mhz 486 ran just fine. And with several other games had similar experiences.
[reasons.]
Fast gfx, large low latency L2 cache, high quality DRAM chips. And carefully selecting drivers which to put for maximum performance.
Another example, 100mhz pentium vs 133mhz pentium, difference in quake frame rates 100%. [software rendering, both had similar optimizations from software side.]
One had S3 vision,16MB DRAM and 256 cache, other had Matrix Millenium,32Mb EDO and 512kb of cache. Neither of system, did any paging during tests.
Software tricks are also important. Himem.sys and emm386:s features selected on application basis meant a LOT.

This is clear misconseption, on what bible really tells. Fuck your wife.
The old testament has laws freeing men from military service for a year after marriage, for being pleasure for his wife. And new testament, new testament says marry if you cannot live without sex, and do not abandon your wife/husband. And that wife's body belongs to husband to use and husband's body belongs to wife, and neither of should decline others rights for it. And it continues as only take distance for short period of time as common decision for prayer, which means neither could dictate and say I won't please your this night, but if both decided a few day selibacy it would be ok. After period after giving birth, and [uhh those periods where women bleed from their vagina] are also no sex zone by bible. But other vice, if you have wife then go in her as much as you please.[Remember pleasing your wife also.] And wife's right for husbands body includes getting pregnand of his seemen.
Huh. I finally realized the real reason why men in northern europe rise against catholics traditions and decided all for bible, in 1600 century.
>Who wants 64-bit for 64-bit's sake? I want fast, cheap computation. I'd be happy with an 8-bit computer if it gave sufficient bang for the buck.
Heck. perhaps you don't wan't to consider a possibility of running out of VIRTUAL address space, perhaps programmer who intends to continue selling their product in next year starts worrying it today. Perhaps the guys who complain that they run out of memory all the time buy it. Or guys who do troublesome hacks to have their program run with more than 2gig of data. 64 bit is convenience for programmers, and it gives performance boost where it counts for apples target market. People don't buy power Mac's primary for 3D shooters, nor office productivity apps nor RTS. Their primary market is image editing, and when your image is over 500MB in size and program wan't to have temporary copies of it and other temporary structures that are function of image size you start up having troubles with 32bit address space. Oh wait you just didn't realize that macs are used to edit something that goes to high resolution PAPER. 64 bit is BIG issue for some people while its not issue for majority, Apples target market happen to be those with big issues related to that.
64bit desktop is just neat, but its the business users that need truckloads of RAM.
BTW: 8 bit computer could store upto 64kb of stuff with address space extension (16bit) normally, so you would be screwed up badly no matter how many THz it would run, the amount of bang doesn't matter if your problem is too large for it to solve, for instance edit 300*400*8 sized image, or compile linux sources or... Oh wait even if it would be the fastest computer on planed doing stuff that fits in the 64kb area it would suck on things that don't. And there are businesses which have similar problems with 32bit these days. Image editing, 3D rendering(no not games), business databases, simulations, and... Sure thats not apps that average slashdotter would use but those do exist and Apple does fine for those.

The fastest route from NY to LA is computable, it takes sometime, but its small enough to be handled by anymonern computer with ENOUGH RAM to hold the graph of the roads. Have you ever heard of Dijkstra? With Djikstra you can solve single source shortest paths, even with your PC for large problem.
Also NP-complete graph problems are STILL computable it takes just takes LOTS of computing resources and time, (Travelling salesman) but its not infinite, like infinite state machine. NP-complete is still way beyond solvable with current computers but its in reach withing 40 years, for medium sized problems. Its all how much computing resources you have vs size of problem. One grows 2^(sqrt n). If we can make 2^30 processors each handling 2^40 elements per second and we could afford spending 2^30 seconds with it. The result would be 10000 element size travelling salesman problem would be solvable, as absolute manner. And making this happen well there is moore law, and with enough cash to get power, and chips it will be solvable. The infinite state machine still is unsolvable problem, because its infinite. Finite data, with finite solving algorithm is solvable it just MIGHT take more computing resources than you have available currently, depenending on problem.
