NOVELL has admitted it's not in the UNIX biz anymore and they don't make money of the UNIX technologies.
If they really wanted to try and repair some of the PR damage that was done when they struck that deal with Microsoft they could just re-license (since they are now the copyright holder) of UNIX.
It would be an incredible show of support for the GPL and bring the UNIX story a good ending. I doubt there would be anything in it we could use in LINUX but you never know.
And...I bet they buy their food from the "company" owned store not with food but with company "credits" they are given.
You know this was how it was done back in the 19th century. It's close to slavery.
just started....Appeal process

SCO Loses

And in other news a lawyer from SCO was quoted with the following information.....
"We are obviously disappointed but confident that after the appeals court reads through our evidence which should be at the courthouse by July of 2008 a new judgment will be entered on our behalf. Accordingly we are requesting an intimidate stay of this decision until such time as we are able to fully and completely present our evidence............we also are requesting the appeals court order........"
The point of my response was not about the "right" or "wrong" concerning wiretaps, it was just that the original poster "re-interpreted" the story to his slant.
Regardless of if you think the the part he left out really makes a difference it should of still been in his post since it was in the original story and was important to the original Author.
"The House of Representatives voted 227-183 to update the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to allow warrantless wiretapping of telephone and electronic communications."
But the first Sentence of the story you linked to reads
"The House handed President Bush a victory Saturday, voting to expand the government's abilities to eavesdrop without warrants on foreign suspects whose communications pass through the United States."
That last part about "warrants on foreign suspects whose communications pass through the United States" is SOMEWHAT IMPORTANT!!!
You made it read as if the pres got full permission to wiretap anybody without a warrant which is completely wrong. Instead of omitting the parts that you don't like, be honest and include them.
I think most people would be surprised what can be created with technology when you only have to make a few of them. It's the mass manufacture of "scifi" like devices that is HARD.
If I wanted to create super sci-fi stuff for my spy that's not so hard, custom made stuff with lots of money behind it can do amazing things.
I'm really hoping that their method is mass manufacturable.
if Microsoft wants to improve sales of Vista all they need to do is move up the date that they will no longer provide patches for WinXP (security patches). That's the way it happened at my gov agency. They were running Win98 and HAD to upgrade because MS said they would no longer provide security patches.
When there was more than one OS that ran on different HARDWARE, games could be differentiated and selling points could be made for buying an Amiga, or an Atari over the Mac and PC of the time.
Other than Security, to the average user who is using Windows there just is'nt the "Whoahh" that people used to get when somebody back then saw the Amiga or Atari. Compelling reasons just don't exist for the average user to switch from windows to LINUX except maybe fear of viruses and malware.
For games to take off on LINUX there needs to be a game done on LINUX for LINUX ONLY that everybody wants and does something on LINUX that CAN'T BE DONE on windows. When I saw what the Amiga could do commpared to the PC I KNEW why I wanted one.
Granted the Amiga was as much a hardware advancement as OS, but the point was the average user could understand why they needed it.
When applied to regimes that are RATIONAL you are right.
North Korea = rational and paranoid (Kim wants to live more than he wants south korea)
Iran = hard to tell. It only takes ONE psychomanical madman to either a)press the button or b) give the material to another psycho religious madman to create problems. I'm of the opinion that Iran is smarter than they look but STILL..religion tends to cancel out rationality.
What about Russia? They could make big money by selling nukes? What if one DOES get in the hand of a terrorist they sell to? They could always deny it say they don't know how it happened.
If and when Solaris goes GPLv3 I'd hope many people take notice. It's a bit historical considering where UNIX has been license wise over the last 35 years.
Not that there is much (any?) code left in Solaris from the early UNIX days. Imagine the shock of the UNIX camps 20 years ago if a traveler from the future came back and told them that eventually Solaris would be re-licensed under the FSF's GPL.
They probably would of laughed pretty hard and said "riiiiiight"
That was the most insightful comment I've seen in a long time (REALLY!).
If a government wants you in jail they don't need stuff like anti-terrorism laws to do it. All they have to do pick some obscure small local, state, federal statute, search your house and arrest you.
What? Look at that copy of Michael Jackson on tape! Please produce the original AND the receipt. Don't have it? Well that's 5 years in jail and $50,0000 per copy!
Now there is a little exaggeration going on above (just a little) but democracies have so many laws on the books now that are not prosecuted that a prosecutor could pick whatever they want. As long as it's not a public trial chances are they could get away with it.
If the executive order stands I guarantee you that executive order will stay right in place when the next president comes into office, democrat OR republican.

Wow...I could FEEL the heat coming from my LCD screen after reading that.
Triple action flame thrower WITH nuclear power source!

I'm assuming it will be GPLv3 since Sun generally has said they like v3.
Did I miss that anywhere? Did he say it would be GPLv2 or v3
and...somebody get RMS on the phone for comment.
What Risk?...you DID go all Godwin, if you didn't want to risk it you should not done it.
You put in your story

And in these courts there are people with jobs and they are called "lawyers". Each "Lawyer" puts forth a view contrary to their opponents.....
How do you reconcile how up in arms we are about deaths in Iraq when thousands are dying in Sudan?
Sounds like to me the world is becoming more hypocritical and that is NOT a good thing.
The robot in question is not autonomous. It's controlled remotely by a real person.
His predictions may be wrong (Dvorak)
But the wilder they are, the higher is page hits are. Which means he's raking in $$$.
Sounds like genious to me
If that's the case then it's REALLY BIG, since current photovoltaic cells are not very efficient.

There are different types of the disease. Catatonic for instance is where the individual does not move (or does not move much).
The disease is not always your movie split personality.
Actually there was a version designed to carry a nuke. A very LARGE nuke.
With the payload capacity of the Saturn V how big do you think it could carry? Probably a 100Megaton or greater with today's nuke technology.

The guy telling people to take down gift shop diagrams will probably be canned. It's a waste of taxpayer dollars and he's obviously going overboard.

1. Have never tried Second Life
2. Tried it for 20 min and declared "The graphics suck, the game sucks" (even though technically it's not a "game")
3. Hate Second Life (or any other tech that is popular) and love being "Devil's advocates"
I had no idea it was Benedict. I've not seen that elsewhere, must not be something he likes ;)
