They make one change and carry it across all the versions on the current product line. It keeps things simple.
This is why I didn't see the new nano design comming from a mile away.. The old nano design was more in line with "the iPod look".
If they decide to go to a virtual clickwheel, or pressable virtual buttons along the side, whatever -- they'll carry it through the whole iPod (regular version) line.
If Apple dismiss the iconic clickwheel, they'll have to revert the nano to a "mirror back design", seeing it as an iPod basically has 3 design points going for it; white headphones, clickwheel, mirrorback. I can see a old-school nano with the same form factor as the full iPod, but with a fullface screen. The UI softwhere would be identical on a line of fullface screen iPods and the world would be in balance:-)
I think, that we will see a period with current shuffle, nano, iPod and a fullface screen iPod (with the same back and guts as the current iPod and top of the line pricing).
Color and non-color iPods (Macs and PowerBooks) have been on sale before, no reason to think that small and big screen models can't coexist (the difference in UI sofware would not bee that big.. just like the difference between B&W and Color.. )
No wonder the record Excec want's to elliminate the CD. DRM can not be passed from father to son. Material containing DRM has no value after it has been paid for.
Fair Use, is the downpayment for the protection the Law gives for a (supposed) Limited time to Copyright owners. The Protected material should go into the Public Domain after a limited time, otherwise the copyright owner gets protected for free for ever.
It is asumed, that the Public Domain is paying taxes to the State that facilitates the Law that protects the Copyright Owner.
Use DRM and you shouldn't get the protection paid for by the people.
..wasn't that what your president said just the other week?
If somebody invest in space, they better be on the same side as the ones that "protect the lives of American people" against terrorists, otherwise they will have a very bad investment.
Me? I would be damn sure that my Moonbase / automatic rock miner / zero G chemical plant / space station could protect / hide itself from anything.
Spanish in Mexico is different from Spanish in Spain. English in America is different from English in Great Britan.
This is "the context" of the language, the part of the language that can only be translated, if you have intimite first hand knowledge of the two languages you whish to translate between. Basically, you have to know what moves in a society to truely understand the language.
Learning a second language is one thing, using it and understanding "the context" is something else and I think that a making a true Babel machine includes something close to an artificial sentinence, that can keep track of "the context" of several languages and several locations, to truely work.
A vocabulary of 100-200 words with an accuracy of 80%.. Anybody could get to that point from a 5 hour crash course on any language.. In fact, I think that accuracy would probably be higher for translations between "related" languages (based on Latin).. But I am sure that a course on Chineese or Japanees could get to the same point.
Links into Picasa (get it if you have a pc and a digital camera), quick and easy way to have an online album. Pictures in PicasaWeb can be used in documents written in the Document part of the whole Google Office show.
(you have to grap the link to be used for embedding pictures in MySpace from PicasaWeb, and edit the html in the Document to make it work.. this will probably be changed to be more userfriendly and neat, but it works)
I am from Denmark. We have a debit card system that everybody uses. It's tied into any bank account and all banks have agreed to use it. The consequence is that all shops (street vendors included) accept the "DanKort" just as they would cool cash. Most shops will pay out up to about $500 in cash on any transaction (they just add the $500 to the transaction).. There is no fee for the consumer for using the card. I have done transactions of DKR 10,- without a problem.
A bus ticket is DKR 17,- or DKR 105,- for 10 prepaid. So the choice is not hard. Prepaid is a card the size of a creditcard. Systems that tie directly into the "DanKort" system are being tested, but not where I live, unfortunately.
Vending machines, yes, I have a bowl of coins at work. The highest denumeration for coins is DKR 20,- ($3.41) lowest for bills is 50,- (8.53) so we rarely walk around with a roll of one dollar (equiv) bills. Again, the same system that is tested in the busses is tested for vending machines.
oh, and tipping is not part of the commercial culture here. Employees in bars and such get a decent hourly pay (minimum DKR 90,- an hour)
Lastly, you can select to have a garden variety creditcard (or two) added to the "DanKort". I have Visa and it works fine when I travel outside Denmark.
We are doing babysteps in the direction of a card based economy, about half of consumer business transactions are conducted by the "DanKort".
Anyway, I think I have explained too much, sorry about that. It IS possible to reduce the coins and paper, but the State has to back it and the Banks and the shops have to agree that handling coins and paper might be more expensive than setting up this alternative.
To sweep coins and paper totaly from existence, you would have to add p2p anonymous payments. Might be possible?
Their competition is called 2nd generation iPod nano and a music store that has been running, for years and ties into a piece of software currently at version 7.
Cut off $100 of the player and $.49 of each song and you MIGHT be able to compete.
let's ignore all the rumours concerning future iPod products and aim for the current models, that obviously lack FM, wireless and brown.
let's also ignore the fact, that the iPod has not been updated for amost year (between 2005105 and 20060912) and the fact that Apple usually does this once a year.
for full effect, let's compete with a 5th generation product
With a larger and larger percentage of the population being overweight or even obese, I really don't want to imagine a future containing too much spandex...
.. or the fact that the same was said about CD's vs. Vinyl 25 years ago. It's that subtle quality that I found hilarious. Nothing wrong with the delivery.
Oh, gapless playback would be nice. I don't care if it would only work on AAC files, I can live with that. If I had to re-encode my cd's to get gapless playback (and playcounts for each track) I would do it.
Madonna's entire back catalogue was added a year ago as well as her new album. That album really doesn't have any gaps. Hopefully, she is complaining to Steve about this! (plans within plans)
As for the rest of the music sold on iTMS.. I can't believe that Apple doesn't have high quality source files from which to downsample to whatever the current standard is. Converting from non-gapless mode to gapless capable mode would "just" be a question of computing time.
You might have some trouble finding a 4x6 16:9 screen. let alone one that can be powered by a battery that fits inside "0.75".. oh, it's user replacable, as if that's going to help:-)
you were thinking about "squeezing" applications, weren't you?
This camera, http://www.gigapxl.org/ takes 4 Giga pixel in one shot .. now, that's cool.
Stitching 40 X 40 pictures together is just a lot of work.

In web design there are two schools: "The Card Sharks" and "The Holy Scrollers".
Both schools have advantages and disadvantages. The specifics will always be root for discussion between webdesigners.

Nobody takes responsability for being a fucking moron anymore.
Just sayin'

2 credit cards == money
Fits 2 creditcard, national identificationcard, company key card, company identification card
nothing else needed.
that should have been "A LOT LESS" ... but I guess you got my drift anyway.

It's brilliant!
Most people will see 79 points being A LOT than 99 cents eventhough the difference is only 1/4 cent.
Never underestimate how retarded the average Joe is.

Hilarious! :-)
A guy posing as a girl on the Internet? Well, it's a considerable chance. Have that in mind if you try to pick up "women" on the net.
Also have in mind what you send unencrypted to unknown receivers.
Furthermore, just because people send you stuff, it doesn't mean that you should go public with it.
Stupid for sending, yes. Stupid for resending as a batch (with your own fucking private information attached), hell yes.
