    The Paris terrorists sent an SMS that read "weâ(TM)re off; weâ(TM)re starting.". Not exactly the type of information they would need to encrypt.

    The encryption is genie is already out of the bottle - there are already apps available to facilitate encrypted communications. The government seems to think that if they add encryption backdoors to newer apps/services that the terrorists will be dumb enough to use them instead of what's available now.

    Being a free country does actually mean we should be allowed to do whatever stupid thing pops into our head. That's kinda what freedom is about. The history of the universe is littered with stupid decisions, most of which die under the weight of their own stupidity but some which turn out quite ok, such as humans.

    What do H1B visas have to do with it? This article is about moving the work offshore entirely. The US can try to limit competition for engineering work domestically but in a global economy that wont help very much to protect American engineering jobs.

    It would help by instructing employees not to click emails that claim to be from their coworkers but are color-coded to indicate they're from an external email source.

    Demarcate internally-sent emails from external in the server and email clients (by IP address, with additional logic to detect spoofing). That way it becomes immediately clear whether the email you got is really from your coworker.

    You mean how the free market stole from the people who earned low wages to make the computing device you had the luxury to type your missive on? Were you showing solidarity with their plight by buying a device made with underpaid labor and supporting their masters? Those third-world shitholes you describe are full of millions of people who don't have a pot to piss in. Capitalism is giving them a chance to emerge from their abject poverty into the lower middle class. Will they be taken advantage along the way? Sure they will. Are you or anyone else offering them an alternative to better their lives? No. In fact what you and other westerners want is to protect your own standard of living at their expense. You made it, on the back of free market, so lets turn off the spigot and protect it, right?
